I love this review. Emotional, honest and heartfelt. But most of all, this is also my boyhood dream car. Theres special cars and then there's a Diablo.
Your emotion around the vehicle was clear throughout the video, glad you were able to meet your hero and it lived up to your expectation. Keep up the fantastic work
You were concerned that you wouldn't do a good job on this. In fact, this was wonderful. A great tribute to an iconic car. A true Lambo: spectacular looking, utterly impractical, extremely fast, thrilling to drive. And in a proper Lambo purple. It's great to see you realising your dreams.
You drove it a very short time and nailed it!! After seven years of ownership (1994 Diablo VT) I can assure you, you will fear it after hitting the redline on a corner! You drove it conservatively keeping the redline out of sight (understandably not your car). I finally removed the front driveshaft after five years ownership, rear wheel drive is the way to go. There is a lot of Diablo misinformation, overall an absolutely fantastic super car for the money! RU-vid viewers will be waiting for the Diablo story to unfold (you should get one before the prices hit the sky). Early model Diablo's have slow electric windows but nothing much else is slow about them. Stock exhaust is amazing, the car is incredible! Yeah, fresh tires are very important for overall ride and handling. Get one, your RU-vid channel will hopefully reward you.
@@JayEmmOnCars Much abliged :-) privately appriciated, not dubiously considered... :-) VIVA ITALIA, Pro Patria, Viva Automobiles LAMBO, LAMBO, e Ferruccio il contadino :-P :-D :-)
Love how RU-vid thinks the middle of this is the perfect place to show an advert for an electric fiat 500 Couldn’t really be less appropriate if they tried
I am genuinely emotional too! What a wonderful review James! Please never apologise for enjoying your job, everything you were experiencing came through to us. Thanks 👍
I have to say the Diablo 6.0 is probably my favourite Lambo of all time...with the Countach QV a close 2nd! The rear wheel arch was shaped to echo that of the Countach. Great vid as always
Same. The Diablo and all of its variants is my favorite lambo. Being a 90s kid, who played a ton of racing video games made me appreciate this golden era of super cars.
I'm so so happy that you got to drive your hero car and weren't disappointed James. I'll almost definitely never get the chance to see a Nismo 400R let alone drive one, but I think I'd be similarly emotional. What other unicorns are there that you know you'll probably never get the chance to drive if there are any? Fantastic video again!
The normal r33 GT-R is my unicorn car as here in the USA we never got any of the Skylines except for the sedans which were called the Infinity G35/G37 over here.
Fantastic video, I’ve owned one for 10 years black with black interior, amazing car. Not had a speeding ticket but did get a fixed penalty for black number plates! Worth the the £60 for the stealthy look! Keep up the great work James.
The first two car posters I had as a kid in the late 90’s were a Lamborghini Diablo in gold and a Porsche 993 Turbo in purple. What a car. VT is so pretty too!
As a kid I had about 10 posters of different Diablos plastered around my bedroom. Definitely not a self serving video mate! I loved every second. Really happy for you to finally drive what is also my dream car.
My favourite lambo by a big margin, a gated VT roadster for me, I love the design even more with the roof clipped on the back and more headroom and noise. Thank you Mr owner for letting Jay bring us this video from the soul
The feelings you showed here were exactly how I would feel in your position. I always picked the Diablo in need for speed 3: Hot Pursuit and had a Yellow SV on my wall as a kid! Also what you said about cars outperforming the Diablo being irrelevant to you is how I feel about my 03 R32 Golf. Newer DSG turbo cars would outperform it but it is by far the more enjoyable drive with the lovely manual box, the mechanical AWD grip and the V6 singing away!
These are still striking cars. I remember as a kid following a purple Diablo through High Wycombe. It seemed bloody huge at the time. We stopped to speak to the owner, a little Italian guy who used the passenger seat for his golf clubs! He’d had five Ferraris before his Diablo which he described as rather more exciting.
My favourite car with one of the most honest test I’ve seen , love seeing someone who’s loves the car enjoy it . Extremely happy you have driven yours and my dream at last 👌👌
The fact that this is 2 years old and I’m still watching over shows the difference between someone doing a review and someone who loves the car from childhood. It’s my hero car bar none . Love it 🙏
Aww man. Thanks for bringing us along. It's great that you ared not just parroting what everyone else has said. That owner is some kind of awesome for allowing you to drive it. Ever a fan, as yours are some of my favorite videos on here. Keep up the good work, I so appreciate how genuine you are and that you don't seem to have every speech impediment known to man. Always a joy. Keep 'em coming.
Excellent! I watch your videos because you make me feel as if I am driving those cars so dont thank me for watching, instead accept my thanks for what you do.
I love your content James, the quality of your content is ace. You're the only car RU-vidr I watch. This video really made me smile and I'm so glad you were able to drive this beautiful Diablo and it didn't disappoint.
Your best video to date. I'm so happy for you. Such passion and that's what people want/need sometimes. My dream car is the yellow Murciélago from NFS HP2 (2002). I was 11.
A dream come true, this is one of those cars that on the rare occasion that you see one, you want to drive it. Thanks for sharing your dream car experience.
This is where watching all your videos and then your honesty really pays off. When you find a car that really speaks to you! The emotion really comes across in this video which is epic. For people that could never dream of owning something like that, it gives a tiny taste of how it might feel. If you ever fancy driving a nice 987 boxter with an lsd (how it should have been from the factory) let me know 👍
The Diablo will always be one of the best supercars in my rankings, it just falls in that sweet spot for age and performance where its still fast but not excessively fragile
Great, great review James!! Yes you got excited (which you should) but you also delivered loads of practical info. You are the best car reviewer in my opinion. Not just youtube, but anywhere. Great job. Great video. You have a canny knack of telling me all thing I actually want to know and giving some awesome no talk engine sounds when its needed. I never really fancied diablos, but you just made me want one.
Who wants the same old copy and paste car review with performance figures and the same old yackety yak. You show the real emotion that these cars evoke. It’s not about the numbers it’s about the emotion and the memories. Great review, thanks for the ride.
This was a great video. Seeing you driving your dream car and a Diablo on top of that is great. I remember having a toy car Diablo and it looked so outlandish and aggressive that the wedge shape is something I adore to this day.
So glad meeting your hero didn't disappoint you. I'm a bit older than you and my hero car was the Countach S. I first saw a picture of it, a prototype, in Car Magazine. It was wearing black plastic wheel arch extensions. What really impressed me, even back then as a teenager, was the back story the magazine provided through the factory tour. It showed how the car chassis was created out of bits of metal and aluminium tubing being welded and brazed together. Even then it was recognised that this was probably the last of its type. But it struck me how special it was and how special it must be to be able to order a car and know that a dozen craftsmen were making it by hand. I wonder how many of those able to order one actually appreciated how privileged they were to buy one let alone drive one. You clearly appreciated your privilege.
Thanks.so much for this video. I can see the full passion and emotion (tears in your eyes) of driving your hero. And when you mentioned the need for speed from 1996 with the Diablo. I must have played the same game. Indeed, I was more Diablo an Testarossa than XJ 220.
Thanks for the review Jay. I'm with you when it comes to the Diablo. I'm not really a Lambo fan, but the Diablo is special. An amazing and unique looking car. It's both brutish and beautiful in equal measure. It still looks amazing today.
Grats to you for getting to drive your dream. No need to apologize for enjoying your job mate. I always preferred the F-40 myself but that's what we all love about car passion. Cheers
Thank you SO MUCH James......I got quite emotional too.....just "washing the windows to my soul"...... such an ABSOLUTE D R E A M car for me too......I maybe PREFER the look of a pure early LP400 Countach, but THIS car is something I could REALLY, TRULY envisage the possibilty of owning one fine day!! Thanks a MILLION!!
Love it! I saw one in the Tiriac Museum in Bucharest and sat down on the ground beside it , just to understand the proportions. That's probably as close as I'll get to driving one in my life. Thanks for the vicarious thrills.
Superb video and delivers a genuinely new and very informative take for many people on what is often an overlooked Lambo post Audi's involvement. On a separate note - the wheel arch is designed to mimic the shape of the Countach and has since become a Lamborghini trademark or equivalent of, for example BMW's old kidneys or Hofmeister kink. You can still see it in the current Urus etc... 100 % certain that you were not speeding in this video, however if you were "framed" please put the pics in on of your future videos. ((-:)
"the wheel arch is designed to mimic the shape of the Countach... " I'm glad someone pointed that out, it's by no means a mistake. I also the Diablo's rear deck - although curvier - has elements of the Countach esp. the later QV models.
It must be so cool to have a RU-vid channel where you can simply say “but there’s certain cars I’ve always dreamed of driving”, you mention the name, and someone calls and offers that car to you.
Amazing 🤩 you look like you were having a great time 🤙🏼 being the same age .. this is also THE car for me growing up but I doubt I’ll never get any closer than my scaletrix!
Man does that V12 sound glorious... Soo mechanical and visceral. Its also one of my hero dream cars. This and the F40. 💕 Thank you for the review, I'm living vicariously through your videos. Keep doing what you're doing. If you get the chance, plese review the E39 530i and the E86 Z4 3.0Si.
Thank you for making me green with envy. My co-all-time favorite super-car, along with the Pantera. Perhaps you could get a drive in one of those one day as well.
Apparently It was a design signature used by Marcello Gandini. Also incorporated by him in various other concept and production cars incl the Maserati Shamal and Quattroporte IV.
I wondered how quickly the reason for the arch shape would be posted I’m assuming / hoping Jay is actually aware and just made the comment to channel his inner Doug a bit more
I think your quote perfectly sums up a dream car: "A Golf R could be all over this car, no problem. It could keep up with it easy, half the power, but that's not the point" I recently bought my dream car an R34. In the same vein as that diablo not being the 'exact' car you dreamed of my R34 is a GTT not a GTR, but the joy I get out of seeing that car and driving it is more than any car I could imagine. Something like a Focus RS or an M5 would obliterate me in any race but I simply don't care. It's my hero, and that's all that matters
This was all the better for your emotion coming through - well done for channeling it in the right way. I find I know much more about a car from how you are feeling not what it feels like
This is soo awesome! The Diablo was my dream car as well when i was a kid. The first ever car magazine I owned had a yellow Diablo SV. Still want to drive one to this day.
Another quality video from you! I TOTALLY get you with your sentiments on that ONE hero car. We've all done track days and come away a little deflated at the anti-climax of being unable to open them up properly.or trundle around a circuit waiting for some shit scared "enthusiast" to let you past. Most of us can't afford to hire a supercar for a weekend to experience what you have - but as you said, total thanks to the owner to allow you to realise something you always dreamt of but always thought unachieveable. If he's anything like you, he knows just EXACTLY what it means to you.
I remember thrashing these in the need for speed games, and having posters from hot wheels magazine. Credit to you for finding your way to your dreams. A glorious machine.
Can’t stop watching this video. Like you. This was my poster car. That spec. The look of it. The sound. Oh my goodness. Thank you for sharing this video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You've come a long way mate. Getting more popular every day. Well deserved. Top class reviews by a top class dude who knows what he's talking about. I'm around the same age as you too so I get what you mean when you talk about old racing games and hero cars. Well done man
Jay I envy you so much in driving this car ..I could see/feel how emotional you were .I was crying a bit to ,I don't think Ive seen you like this before with a car lol, what a Machineeeee !!!!!!!... Glad you got your dream come true after 25 Years..what a day it must have been
Great review! Brings back memories. I got to drive a bright yellow one all the way from southern France to Switzerland back in the mid 90's. Through a weird coincidence I knew a guy who had one and had ordered another one to be picked up in Switzerland. So I got to drive most of way there. Somewhere around Lyon I took it close to maximum speed on a five lane highway. Even a five lane highway starts looking rather narrow at that speed. The car does have immense power but it handled very well generally. The only minor scares I had were on a wet surface while accelerating. One thing I should mention is that if you drive it properly, the fuel tank will be empty very quickly. I had built a quite sophisticated model of a Countach as a kid, and I clearly remembered it having two fuel tanks. In the diabolo, I was initially trying to figure out how to switch over to the second fuel tank when it finally hit me that there was only one. That was quiet a shock because we had only driven around 200 miles since filling the tank. I think the Diabolo hits the sweet spot between beautiful classic design and a modern driving experience. I hope you get to have one one day as you'd be a great keeper.
Still watching this video as much as for the car and to watch someone who truly appreciates what this car means to achieve their dream . The best review I have seen for a Diablo . Awesome
