Hi , Just found this review. I have a 1999 M9ontero Sport LS trim. Yes the paint is faded on the hood and roof. The drive train is great. Got it new in 2000 with 7000 miles. Currently 125,000 miles. No major problems, just regular maintenance. Did have to change the radiator and timing belt. Still runs great, interior has held up.

Like you,Americans,we in Israel have had the Pajero Sport 1999up to2003.At first the Importer of the brand did not intened to bring the Sport and focus on the 'big' Pajero.Israel is a very small market. But a gov. bid ('furnish the police with a4×4)motivated Mitsubishi Israel to import for civilian use too.I bought it,new,in 2003,drove it till end of 2011.A capable offroader&every day use.Mine was the GLS trim/'fully loaded'-leather seats, automatic, climate control, all electric windows+central locking.... (we have heavy taxation on cars..)-The P.Sport was priced here,at about 1/3less than the 'bigger' boys(pajero, landcruiser, trooper). It didn't sell many samples(only a few dosen/less than100 for sure).I bought it a)efford it b)looked like an improvement of the 90's Toyota 4Runner(sold here up to 1997 or8)

Nice! I went to look at this exact truck the day after they got it in. Ended up buying a much cleaner one in Georgia. This one had a bit too much rust and damage to the body for my liking. Found a super-clean, no-rust Limited trim with the larger 3.5L engine and some extra features like a rear heater. These are amazing vehicles. I also owned a 2001 XLS that I put 200,000 miles on. Great video!

How much did you pay for your truck?

I also have a Limited version with 3.5 engine. Highly under valued trucks. The original Montero is actually the better one if you can find it.

I bought a 2000 a few months ago. It had some problems and I was worried, but the engine and transmission are good. 62 and working outside, it was good in using some skills I haven't in a while. Camshafts both leaking oil both ends valve covers leaking. New alternator battery. Harmonic balancer bolt was loose ruined it and timing gear. One injector leaking fixing now. Getting it road worthy. Sunroof had cigarette butts in the track. Lotta little things.

These are fun little SUV's back when Mitsubishi was doing pretty good. I loved finding this, and I think fixing it up would be inexpensive and probably more than worth it!

Awesome!! I’m so glad you found it informative and helpful! Honestly, I wish this one had the manual gearbox as well, but oh well. Still neat to see a surviving one! In my area, they rust away, sadly.

I loved filming it. It wasn’t until after I published the review that I noticed the rust holes in the frame. I’d say that, with all honesty and integrity, I’d take this vehicle out of road service. Not only is the frame in danger of collapsing, so are the suspension components.

@@NeighborhoodCarReviews I will say that the dealership was honest when I expressed interest in this vehicle. They said that it wasn't road worthy, but that it would make a really kick-ass "swamp buggy". Not a bad idea, but they wanted too much money for it in that condition.

I Own the ES trim the basic trim I honestly love that car ya may not be the best in terms of reliability compare to Toyota Honda Lexus Acura and Mazda but it's somewhat reliable but it's a very decent truck and it offers some stuff witch some newer vehicles may not have as well. But commonly most Montero Sports we will see on the road will have faded paint witch my paint is pretty faded now so eventually if your willing to get it Repainted it will need a repaint Job unless it's always garage kept and always polished then the paint won't necessarily get faded. I have the same color Cambridge Red and it still looks nice even with the faded paint to be honest.

I don't see not too many 22 yr old mazda/acura SUVs but I do see these montero/montero sports on the road on a regular basis.
