i was in 8th grade and my friends and i stayed after school that friday to watch the final few minutes with my friends and teachers before cycling home. We ALL JUMPED UP SCREAMING in joy when mike hit it at the buzzer. Will always remember this moment as long as i live.

That buzzer beater was the difference between a great run to the Final Four and NCAA Championship Game, and a One and Done appearance. What's interesting, and what some may not remember is after winning that thriller, Florida blew out Illinois, and beat down Duke, Oklahoma State, and North Carolina in route to the Championship Game.

March 17, 2000 this game took place (Rickey Henderson, who started playing in the MLB in 1979, was still playing, about to start a new season with the New York Mets); I am posting this on March 8, 2022, and Udonis is still playing publicized basketball for the Miami Heat (where he's been since 2003). Amazing!

Gators caught a break on the last shot! There was some booing from the Butler fans after the post-buzzer replay review that they thought Miller was whistled for an offensive foul.

Butler 10 yrs later would make a remarkable run to the national title, but ultimately lose almost winning with a half court shot smh

A Start for something special

This was the first Butler game I ever watched. I was 11 years old. Never even heard of them before this game which is sad considering I live in Indiana. However, the only three teams that got any press in Indiana at the time were Indiana, Purdue, and Notre Dame so that's why. But man, I remember feeling so bad for Butler. Seems like every time my boys play your Gators in the NCAA Tournament it's an instant classic. The winner ALWAYS goes on to the NCAA Championship game. I'm looking forward to a round 4 with you guys. You have a 2-1 advantage on us.
