Funny how he only played 17 games at Florida and still a legend. Growing up 30 min from him and Randy they were special to watch in HS, tremendous athletes in every sport
Agree! I grew up in Southern WV but played AAU bball that was based out of Charleston in the 90’s - I got a lot of moss and williams bball and fball and as an athlete remember thinking wow, this is something special I just didn’t realize how special!
UK fan here. Saw this game. It was the first time I had seen Jason play. At first I'm thinking "who is this kid with the tats." Later I'm thinking "wow, who is this kid with the tats." His confidence was really impressive. Really took it to us that day. Big fan ever since. The only thing that ruined it....was Dick Vitale announcing.....baby.
You can tell how difficult it was to play in NBA. Only J-Will played later with the stars, nobody else from this day did it. Now, is different. You have summer leagues, g-league, etc. More options for undrafted players. But back then ? you had to be special.
I was at this game. In 1998 KY only lost 2 home games, Louisville & Florida, the only 2 games I attended that year. But in the end they won the championship.
What’s crazy is from where he’s from we just aren’t putting out this kind of talent. But during his HS run, he was never the best player on his team, thst was Randy Moss easily, and even his senior year, a guy Florida knows as well, Brett Nelson was lighting it up about ten miles up the road. Just a crazy run for that era in that little time for us anyway.
Jason Williams was Randy Moss’ QB in high school too. What’s funny is Williams was the state player of the year in football and Moss was the state player of the year in basketball (I think it was their senior year when it happened, but I could be wrong) I’m from Logan and I remember Brett Nelson too, I remember Logan beating him in the civic center. He was nice!
I remember this game. Not many players at that time came into Rupp and put an individual game like that together. He won the battle that day for sure....Cats won the war about 2 months later!
Ultimately with him, it was about the respect of the legends. Ask GARY PEYTON, JOHN STOCKTON,CHRIS WEBBER, they will all tell you how real his game was. That would be enough coming from the swamp id say!!!
You could tell he was way ahead of the other players they aren’t even ready for his passing. Notice how the other guards stay off him on defense because they can’t stay in front of him. He could’ve went right from high school to the NBA.
JWill mentioned in an interview that his best ever move was a fake against Indiana to split the three defenders. Any idea which move this is / was? Thanks - @JasonWilliamsMixes ^
with 7:44 left in the second half (the 5:36 mark) ABC had him down for 2 assist & 4 turnovers 🤣 Seeing that reminded me as a Kings fan how badly he was portrayed in the media. Everyone involved did whatever they could to keep this guy down & he still went 7th in the draft.
The way his eyes were he May had been able to Play football catching passes he looked looked like he was kinda fast too dude was good thanks great watching
😊 damn I didn't even watch when he was playing in college ball at least look like you're doing the same thing he did in the pros to was nice and it's fun to watch and I'm watching this here in this is what 20 5:37 still exciting basketball what he was doing back than made his whole team look good ahh very little pistol Pete more of himself
Assists were counted differently then. As time has gone on, they made it easier to get the assist. At that time the player couldn't dribble after the pass or it wasn't an assist. The evolution of how they count an assist has changed a lot over time. Old school players would've averaged a lot more if they counted them like they did today
about 18 games - he sat out a year after following Billy D to Gainesville, started tearing it up the next season and then got kicked off the team for smoking weed halfway through conference play. Was a real gut punch to 19 year old me, I saw him play live that season several times and UF would've made the tournament easy if he'd stuck around.
@@jeremiahm3434you was there! I was with him when he took the drug test! I offered to PEE for him ! “ He said “ nah if he wants me to take fuck it I will take it” He gave me his ID and he left that day! He came back to get me to enter the draft with him! He was living with Nick Anderson of the Orlando Magic then! I didn’t answer the door for him! Show was a great dude!
in ALL honesty i still HATE jason williams and he was an AVERAGE player not facing legends like jerry west larry bird magic johnson kareem abdul-jabbar oscar robertson bill russell and wilt chamberlain
