I'm sure there's some entitled arrogant couple out there who had kids too early who have nothing but complaints about this vehicle. They're always always is. Cars are stupid because of people.
As a fourth generation mechanic who brought back in the era, when our fathers in grandfathers were American, made car Chevy or Ford. When I was young in the 80s working on cars, I quickly turned over to Toyota. I just noticed all the American cars, Chevy Ford Chrysler changing belts and 60,000 miles radiator hoses blowing shocks and struts giving out suspension parts transmissions and engines giving up their life 60,000 and 80,000 90,000 miles alternators and starters Where are the majority of Toyotas that came into our shop after 160,000 or 190,000 miles you finally did your first alternator the struts and shocks were still good after 150,000 miles they could still have their original belts and hoses . I have never ever bought another American car ever since I’ve converted my whole entire family over to Toyotas ex-wife has Prius Toyota Camry’s all three of my sons Toyota Prius I drive a Toyota Prius now and we have all gotten in the 400,000 mile range plus on each vehicle.. Could never do that with American cars
Same with Holden and ford here in Australia. We didn’t have much of a range but why don’t they learn from Toyota and do a more reliable car/ truck/ wagon. I want to buy local but local is shit.
@@98MAzdaMilleniaS I was eyeing on my Uncle's 96' 4Runner since he bought a new BMW 5 series. I asked him if I could buy his 4runner(370k miles)....he said..."Nope... I am handing down to your cousin"... 😂
Great review! My 99 LC is still going strong! First and only vehicle I have ever owned and she’s getting new shoes and a lift for her 315,000 mile birthday! Love the content keep it up!
Just bought a 2010 landcruiser Prado with almost 300k kms without hesitation, the previous owner owned it since new but unfortunately passed away. Dad also owns a 100 series with almost 600k kms. Mileage is only a number when it comes to Toyotas
To be honest, I never would’ve sold my LC for a Prius, no matter the MPG it gets. The trade off and legacy of just owning one of these is of far greater than what any Prius provide. In addition, never an omission.
$500/month gas savings which was then invested into market, $6,000/yr and then made a video about the Prius battery which gave me $2,500 so that’s why I did it.
i bought a 2000 lc with 181k about 2 months ago. got it from a used car lot for $8500 because the exhaust manifold is cracked. getting both replaced next week to the tune of $3000. it's been such a good truck and so good off road i have no problem paying 3k to get that horrible ticking noise fixed
Condition and Maintenance trumps mileage on these vehicles, I bought mine at 294k and put about $1500 in deferred maintenance I felt it needed and it rides and drives like it has only 100k miles on the clock, I am slowly replacing the stuff I want but if you can remotely turn a wrench they aren’t expensive to maintain.
Just picked up an 01 LX470 with 237k on the odometer. Absolutely loving it so far and its the perfect antithesis to my e46 M3 that I've been daily driving for the last 3.5 years
Cool to see it rocking 327k + miles now and still rolling! The 4.7l Toyota motors are honestly hilarious cause they go and go and go And go(as long as t belt and water pump are done Killer video 🤙🏽 Pumped to find the right one to buy here locally in Chattanooga area. I keep my setting to about 150 miles for the right one
Awesome video and awesome info. Thank you , I’m in love with all land cruisers series and know how durable they are , but the question is :- why do you say at the video picture ( Don’t buy )?🤔
You can buy leather covers for the steering wheel that you stitch onto the wheel, it covers up the wear and it doesn't add much width to wheel, looks and feels 10x better
Got a 2003 LX470 two weeks ago. Absolutely a great vehicle. I sure missed my 1984 4runner and looked for one for years! This ride fell in my lap. No looking back. The vantage point form the seat and visibility are great! Rides smooth - no for the deferred maintenance. Hood and hatch struts. timing belt, serpentine belt tensioner and pulleys. Regular stuff that I can handle after years of BMW and Volvo DIY.
So funny, Jake. When I came accoss this video, I thought that you never sold your truck; and, you just stopped posting videos. The truck looks so similar to your original one. Great find. Glad to see you back in a 100. Looking forward to more landcruiser content.
@@JakeTiesler of course, your landcruiser content is some of my favorite on RU-vid. The off road adventures you shared were unique and different because your stock 100 went on some really cool trail sections that all of us experienced in real time pov. I totally enjoy your video style because it's informal and fun. You have a unique appreciation for the 100 series; and, the quality that separates it from everything else. I am the original owner of one; and, Its the best vehicle we've ever owned
I have a 27 year old LC80 petrol. I bought it 17 years ago and it has been used virtually every day since. From long motorway driving, towing a large caravan to just being used as a donkey. Apart from service parts, the original battery was replaced in 2018 and an alternator replaced, it’s still on 100% original parts. I assume the distributor cap wasn’t even removed or replaced when I bought it, I certainly haven’t touched it. Wonderful cars, worth every Penny in fuel 😬
Nice video! This makes video makes me want a 100 series. Super reliable. Have you had a chance to drive an older 60 series or 40 series? I have a 87 fj60 and love it. Way different kinda truck than this tho, wouldn’t wanna drive it in the city all the time
my dad still has his 2000 land cruiser. with over 400,000 miles ok it. although he had to fix a few things the engine runs beautifully. and is still in one piece.
The 105 is the same, but it comes with a solid front axle that some feel is better for off roading. It's more robust for sure, but not sure if it's better. I think the IFS on the Land Cruisers (including Prados) are proven designs as well.
Hey jake! I’m a teenager looking to pick up a Land Cruiser(In the GCC) I’m new to the car world honestly. What do you recommend I look for / watch out for when buying an older Land Cruiser
Yo, look for maintenance records, rust underneath on the frame, car wreck history, aftermarket paint, leaks, noises etc Let me know if I can help - feel free to send me a message here instagram.com/reel/CqQ0r12D-5t/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I’m going to replace my LS400 with one of these. Going from the best sedan ever to the best suv ever. With three kids and two dogs and winter driving the RWD sedan just doesn’t cut it anymore, and I can’t downgrade to something that is any less bulletproof. I would prefer the ‘03 or later to get the 5 speed, but don’t want to deal with the touchscreen.
Have owned 2 105s an fz and my current fte converted 105. I still miss the straight 6 petrol. I sold it for less than what they are worth now 3 years later.
My favourite suv ever! Great choice and taste. It's this guy at 4XOVERLAND, Andrew St.Peter, his love is the 70 series Lj Landcruiser Troopy. Now lives in Perth, West Australia 🇦🇺
Awesome rig! I've always wanted one but, with our UK gas prices, I'm trying to factor-in all the additional costs before I take the plunge. I don't want to cheap-out and end up hating it due to the costs. How do you like the springs vs the AHC system?
I seen one today on craigslist with 244k Miles for $6,500 obo same color as this one in outstanding shape (exterior) he did not show the interior though but you think it's worth the money?
@@JakeTiesler I see. I'm thinking about getting one myself. But as you said I properly gonna go for the diesel due to the high mpg rate. But yours def. looks lit! I dont know why but I just dig these older builds of cars.
The HDJ100 is a legendary vehicle in Australia. The 1HDFTE 4.2L Turbo is regarded by many as the best engine Toyota ever produced. They stopped production in 2006 but they continue to demand top dollar over here due to their reliability for remote touring
Bought a 2000 LC with 150k miles in 2013 for 12k. It's at 250k now. Largest expenditures were a couple throttle bodies going out, the first was covered under a recall and the 2nd was out of pocket. Factoring in basic maintenance like timing belt changes, spark plugs, etc I've spent less than 15k total. Unbelievable vehicle. When the opportunity arose, paid 26k for a 2010 LC with 170k miles without thinking twice. LC's are their own thing. Once you drive one you get it. Bulletproof engines and the original factory OEM parts rarely need replaced. Do yourself a favor and when you find clean ones that were taken care of, buy them immediately. You won't regret it.
The old toyotas has better sounding and feel door closes, I noticed this difference when I was changing the oil on one. Ever since I've been into the 2000 Toytas/Lexus's. I'm thinking about starting a few Toyota and Lexus lineup from 2000. My sis has a Corolla and that thing is rock solid and reliable as heck.
100 series are awesome machines, and really are built to last, but they aren't without problems, and anyone buying one be aware they can get expensive to maintain. There IS a phenomenon called the "land cruiser tax" on parts and labor. I've had my 05 for 2 yrs now. 280k miles, one owner, no rust, but... Tires Timing belt Water pump Radiator hoses Thermostat Idler pulley/ tensioner pulley Wheel bearings Brake booster Radiator Condenser Shocks Steering rack bushings Sway bar bushings Sway bar end links Map sensor Coil pack w plugs Passenger door handle Driver door lock actuator Fog lights Muffler A/c /heat blend door actuator Rear window wiper motor... But I do love it so very much!
@@Bee-rr6vo I doubt it. If it was regularly maintained and cared for, its got tons of life left in it. 170k is barely broken in! Mine was neglected, has 280k, and runs like new, but I had to do ALOT of catchup maintenance and repair to get it there. Do yourself a favor, and undercoat yours with a fluid film or woolwax type undercoat. It will preserve and protect your beloved lc from the salts.
I've driven many 100s in both flavors and totally get it. The solidity and quality just oozes and they're fun to hustle. I've driven the 200s in both flavors and it just doesn't feel the same. The quality slipped a bit and I'm talking about even in the 2021 LX570. Everytime I find a listing for the 100 I want, it slips away. Grey interior with charcoal exterior preferably 06,07 just are hard to find. I'll just probably import a middle eastern 5mt V8 model instead now that importation is legal.
Exactly, and honestly I have always wanted an 06' 07' with the AHC because I enjoy the ride quality of the air and I'm not going to be 100 miles out in the desert if a bag fails. I drove a 200 series and it didn't have the charm for the 5x price tag. They look amazing and are. I just enjoy a well used but taken care of 100.
@@JakeTieslernot air, it’s hydraulic and there are no bags to fail. Globes can start to loose some nitrogen after a decade or two, but change the fluid every 60k and it’s a solid system. It also doesn’t hard fail, it’s very slow and just results is a slightly harsher ride and sometimes a slight lean if it’s only one or two globes. Shocks and struts can also leak after many many years, but for about $1200 you can do the globes and all struts and shocks in the driveway with common tools and some beer.
I own a 2008 GX470, and I feel the same way you feel about yours. Old skool Toyotas are the best. My GX is so solid and luxurious. The seat height is awesome
@@JakeTiesler ah! The girlfriend and I were debating where you were. Lol we are in Knoxville, TN. We just picked up an LX470 and love it. Thanks for the super detailed video!
@@JakeTiesler Thanks for the response. I'm looking at one now with 311k miles on it and got him down to 8k. Seems to have been loved and taken care of-- it had all the regular scheduled maintenance done about 30k miles ago. I still feel like it's a gamble, but seeing you buy yours for 8500 with 325k miles makes me feel a little better.
It’s not a gamble if it doesn’t leak, no rust, drives good and has maintenance records. It’s just a used Toyota and they seem to be pretty reliable! I would take a 300,000 mile one over a 250,000 with bad records and drives bad, not clean etc
@@JakeTiesler wow that's so cool. I'm still in school right now, but when I finally have income, I dream to own one in the future. Probably an LC200. I always feel excited and giddy when I see land cruisers driving down the road.
RIVIAN. Electric. 700 horsepower. 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds. Up to 14 inches of ground clearance. No sound. 360 and aerial cameras. Lane departure. Adaptive cruise control. No more oil changes or timing belts. HUGE multi-plex LCD screen on the dash. Watch movies as you drive 110 mph through school zones.
And THIS is why RU-vidrs are so unreliable. CLICK BAIT TITLES and it's become go prevalent and disgraceful. Use to watch a lot of Scotty Kilmer but even he has gone CLICK BAIT and even seems to be getting influenced by his sponsors. Be careful with this review and so many others.
4xOverland. Andrew St. Pierre White is 63. 105 Series is an 80 series with the 100 body. 105 was never offered in the USA. The 105 is the ultimate Landcruiser.
