Let me start by saying this was an excellent video as a person thinking of entering the EV market and the lyric to top it off. It really help me with some thoughts I had and concerns though it did not settle my concerns. I’m still undecided not sure if I have the patience, plus I feel it’s gonna cause me to spend more money while waiting then if I just stopped at a gas station, I think once the adapter is out for the Tesla stations, it won’t be as bad

I can fill up my suburban in Sarnia Ontario and almost make it to Bowling Green KY 150km short of getting there in one tank and I would get there in one day. Good video and has confirmed to me that the world is not ready for electric vehicles. This experience seemed frustrating can you imagine if everyone had one and you had to wait for an available charger. Disaster.

I'm picturing how this comment section would go over in 2075, if someone were to hold it up to scrutiny. Let's see . . . great grampa was more worried about how long it took to fill up on his twice a year road trip, than he was about our ability to grow crops in the plains states.

Nice job, however that’s way to much screwing around to get charged and way to time consuming, what if it’s pouring rain, there is so many negative things regarding EVs, especially in this trip senerio, to bad I really like the style of the lyric, I would buy one if it had a nice V6 engine, it will be years before this makes sense. Thanks for all your efforts.

Great video. I have a Mach E. The Lyric and all EVs are not for the impatient and lazy people like me. 😢 Around town, they’re great. Road trips are an all-consuming, mind-bending, nail biting nightmare!

on the lyriq, the 20" wheels vs the 22" , range cost and ride comfort compromis?

This is the type of video I like to see revolving around EV's though it's worth mentioning that a lot of plotting apparently went into preparing for your trip. So until EV charging capacity approaches parity with gas stations they will be a hard sell for a lot of people.

Stops don’t have to be like a NASCAR pit crew, but sometimes you WANT them to be or NEED them to be. I want to be the one to make the decision, not the car. Your experience was far from worst-case and still highlighted a number of frustrations with EV road trips. Sorry, but I have zero interest in road tripping any EV, especially when traveling with kids who just want to get where we’re going. And the previous poster who mentioned security concerns at charging stations made a very valid point that you disingenuously blew off. Sorry, you can’t say sitting at a gas station for 5 minutes filling up is anything close to comparable to sitting at a DC charging station for 40+ minutes . It’s just not, and everyone knows it. Granted, it would help if the Lyriq had a better charging curve, which is a common criticism. I appreciate you and the channel, and I even appreciate a lot of the qualities of EVs. I particularly like how smooth and quiet they are. However, road tripping one seems like a last resort option, despite the spin you seemed to put on your experience.

Touche that sometimes you don’t want to embrace the time to change and your on a tight schedule, however I don’t think there are many occasions in a given period of time where you can drive 505km uninterrupted. Especially if you have kids. They don’t have the attention span or bladder to be able to handle that kind of stint. And if you do have kids, it’s going to take at least 20 min to get them to disembark from the car (car seats) and feed them and go to the bathroom. In that time you have now added another 200+ km to your range. This now equates to 700km, I wouldn’t want to do more then that with kids even if it was a gas vehicle. As for safety that’s a difficult one to answer without more context, I live in canada and we are not concerned about our safety sitting in our car while it charges. I understand that this may be a concern in other parts of the world and I will take that into consideration when I do the second part.

It's pretty hilarious to see the huge difference in comment sections where EV drivers are talking about their actual experience, versus where people who have never driven an EV are making comments about EVs. (Or, dare I say, perhaps where people have been directed to make comments on behalf of someone) EV owners tend to be very happy with their cars. Even in the case of GM and Ford, where road tripping is a bit weak compared to Tesla or Rivian, still the Lyriq and Bolt and Mach-e and Lightning drivers almost unanimously love their cars / trucks. The contrast between people who have the experience, and those who don't, is really stark.

Honest question I was looking at the Cadillac Lyriq and Blazer Ev should I wait to purchase until the update the chargers equipped in the vehicles, or will they be able to software update or retrofit to the 2024's?
@Cars_and_Crosbie

There will be a software update and an ad adaptor that will be available once the integration is complete

How much is the cost of a typical fast charge in Ontario? I’ve only seen videos comparing costs in the USA :)

Way too much time spent charging. Ya, not for me. Nice car but I’ll keep my ICE car for travel. Perhaps a hybrid for running around the city. Thx.

On your first charging stop, you used the 350kw charger. Was that the only one available? If there were smaller chargers there, why would you plug into the 350kw when your batteries won't take that charge? Seems to me you are blocking other cars that could use the higher powered chargers.
@davidmenasco5743
@davidmenasco5743 17 дней назад
I believe all the chargers at the GM Energy sites are the same. But if there were 150kW chargers, the Lyriq would charge significantly slower on them. The 350kW chargers provide both more power and more current, and a faster charge. For more details, you can see the comment by NewsCoulomb on the video at the State of Charge channel, about road tripping in a Lyriq. Lithium powered EVs are still a new technology, and a lot of learning is taking place around them. These videos are very helpful as part of that process.

I would never road trip in a EV unless I had free supercharger miles or if the trip was 500 miles or less and even in that case I better have free or very cheap destination charging otherwise what’s the point.

That does not seem like a smart way to travel yet! Just don’t think we’re there yet. I’ll buy an EV when I can consistently get 1000 km per charge. Then at least I know I can get as far as I want in a single day. Great video and really puts the challenges into perspective.

Too much mental calculating to do a trip. There is no way my wife would ever go through all that planning. ICE cars may not be as efficient, but planning is so simple! Road trips are easier and faster.
@davidmenasco5743
@davidmenasco5743 17 дней назад
Your wife might prefer a Tesla. The car does all the planning for you. Just enter the destination in the navigation system, and the car will tell you where to stop and for how long. Tesla drivers have no trouble with road trips, and most would never buy another ICE car. Not that I have anything against the Lyriq. It seems to be a very nice car.

The more people post on their trips in EVS,the more people realize they are not the way to go as a main vehicle. They are better suited to around town errands.

Sounds like you haven't seen too many Tesla road trip videos. Tesla drivers have no trouble with road trips. Enter the destination in the navigation system, and relax.

Lease because they know if they buy it there is no resale value..simply put these EVS don’t come close to gas for efficient long distance travel. Around town ,ok.
