Bought an 03 Cl type S recently and I'm really convinced that this car is a gem. Despite the transmission problems that plagued these cars, this car is a one-of-a kind offering by Honda. It is fast, luxurious, and has great build quality. It is indeed an uncommon car (~30,000 ever sold) and you get quite a lot of car for the money. Besides transmission woes, this car is definitely worth a look:)
Hi There's was transmission recall from Acura but from 01-02 year but most of them already take in care off by Acura or the dealership I would make sure before buying ask the seller for carfax or ask him and you should be good.
coolshariq just got one for free👍🏼 137,000 miles. One owner. The only thing wrong is the blower motor resistor. (I think) heat/cold works, just no fan. Pretty stoked.
I have an '01 Cl type-S with 130,000 miles on it and my transmission has gone 3 times. Love that car to death though. Super underrated. Wolf in sheeps clothing. Great GT cruiser.
i still have my 03 type s manual 161,000 miles to this day i haven't put a drop of oil between changes still with original clutch, alternator and starter, bought it in 06 i still love this car!!!
Recommend redline racing automatic transmission fluid. It's really easy to change the fluid out 2.5-3 quarts at a time. There's is a super easy 3/8 socket bolt to drain. Do it 3-4 time, drive 50 miles in between, then change your external transmission filter on the last drain and fill. Never put anything other redline or atf direct from acura. The clutch packs are super sensitive to the detergents in cheaper atf you will find at most stores. Also replace your Pgm -fi relay. I would take out the intake air tube, take out the air filter and you'll see it. makes it sound great and you'll get few free ponies.
I cringe when I see someone touch the paint with ANYTHING, including their skin. you should never touch the paint. not even when you wash it. wash mitt, to chamois/water magnet. those are the only things that should ever touch the paint. although, most people are probably not the perfectionist that I am...lol
I bout this car in 2002, drove the shit out of it for 8 years traveling the country for work. Only issue I had was a blown tranny but a recall covered it completely about 6 years in. Crazy now to think I drove that car for soo long, Im 6'8". I know this is a preference thing but the spoiler looked good on this car.
@@fordmustang98guy no, traded it in for a new car in 2010. Of all my cars, that's the one I miss the most though. I drove all over the country in that thing building my business up.
@@cherigreene5252 I had this same problem but different ...the original radio crapped out on me ...I bought a used one on Ebay and the Ebayer had the code ....I know this isn't helpful but the research I did at the time led me to contact the dealer for help ...
Never been a huge fan of the transmission problem these things have 170k is when it started happening but im at 193k right now after a good buddy of mine fixed it well im hopin he did seems to be shifting fine now lol but i do love how fast these bad boys can go damn near 160mph no lie really fast cars gotin a few speeding tickets just cant help it lol a real joy to drive all smiles
I had a 1999 CL 3.0 for my first car I missed my white Acura CL and now I have a 2003 TL and I’m saving for a new car my new car will be a 2011 TL SH-AWD and my second car will have to be a 2006 TL.
I was watching old motorweek videos when I was informed that the type s TL/CL came with a free flow exhaust, not s sure if that is why the exhaust is louder.
Do yourself a favor and learn how to drive a stick shift. After that, find a 2003 CL Type S with 6 speed manual. They can go to 300-350k miles with little or no repairs, only regular maintenance stuff. Bulletproof engine and trans (from the NSX).
Bought the exact same car with a crunched fender and headlight at the auction for $300.00 fixed the fender and headlight for $400 in it $700 and need paint and done with it.
Bullshit. The 1997 3.0 didn't come in manual, let alone 6 speed. The 2.2 and 2.3 offered a 5 speed manual. The only 6 speed manual was available in the 03 CL Type S.
I've never tested a cl before this is my first time. Right there now you know why he "thinks" it's a rare car.... but really it isn't a rare car at the moment.
Better hope that transmission is swapped from an 06/07 V6 Accord. Or else you better be saving for a swap. These transmissions are notorious for going even as low as 40k miles
Everything is great but the mileage lol.. A very fun to drive car this one!! I don't know about the looks though I oddly like the 1st gen looks better.
