I had a 2001 5-speed for 20 years - I recently got rid of it. I miss it and have good memories. I didn't have the 3rd door, but I know someone that did have that option and it developed a rattling problem after so many miles. I really liked my jump seats in the back and the innovative engineering that allowed them to fold into the hull. That small cab would heat up so quickly in winter time. The CD player was awesome, too (never a single problem in 20 years of constant use) and the small cab acoustics were tight! Today, you'll pay twice as much for a larger model (such as Colorado) and get something half as good overloaded with technology. I have to say, the 2001 S-10 may be the best vehicle I ever owned.
And this was apparently one of the worst sales years for the s10. The new crewcab model was pointless. At that time you could have gotten a crew silverado for a little more. Which is significantly wider than the s10. Meaning the silverado could have more people while also getting better handling and ride on the highway. Plus a silverado would be easier to work on with the same engine. Mainly because of that extra width.
