This crusty old Dodge Ram 2500 blew out a front brake line, so now seems like a good time to fix a ton of other issues it has been plagued with for years.

@@SteveKirks I think you will find that every vehicle he works on beyond a few years old is rusty. It is a serious, but commonplace problem for vehicles in the salt belt. Up here in east coast canada, its as bad, if not worse. Very few vehicles last over 10 years. You can replace worn or broken parts, but near impossible to fix the rusty chassis and body. You and prolong the inevitable by patching the bad spots, but rust always wins.

Never seen a battery terminal and post clamp cleaning tool before 👍, I used to use a mild alkaline solution to dissolve or neutralise the corrosion, Cabbage water works well, though a very mild bleach works, do not use a strong solution or an energetic reaction will ensue, and spit out all over. Hi tension hardware was definitely toast, same with brake fluid. Great vlog Wes, thanks for sharing.

Wes, your comment about the diagnostic work @ 30:52 is understood. However, that is probably the best part of your videos (along with the little things you do that are too numerous to mention) . Watching you diagnose a vehicle's issues, while frustrating for you, is kind of like following a Sherlock Holmes story. What will the be the big surprise in the end in a whodunit sort of manner? Wes, I asked this question on the last video where you replaced brake lines with the copper/nickel product. This copper/nickel stuff is so soft that I wonder how well it holds up over the long haul. On short runs where the line is well supported I'm sure it's fine but on long runs it seems like it my be subject to fatigue. I too live in the rust belt and am always replacing brake lines. I tried the coated lines from NAPA and although they last longer than bare steel, they still rust out. I bought some copper/nickel line but I thought it was just too soft so I opted for the the stainless stuff and I've had good results. Sure it's a little tougher to work with but I feel it's worth it. It will never rust or fatigue. Love your videos! Keep it up.

I have a 2001 ram 2500 with the 5.9 gas. I replaced every brake line on the truck, some twice. Common problem with this engine is the lower plenum gasket. Mine blew out in Pennsylvania after leaving NY, on my way to Colorado 😄 I've also replaced the ecu twice, once after driving back to NY from Florida with a bad ecu. The worst was the wire shields pressed into the heads surrounding the spark plugs. Chiseling all of them out and removing the snapped plugs was the worst.

WOW, talk about a severe case of lack of upkeep. That was a wreak waiting to happen breaks wise. Not to mention a way way way overdue tune up. Her gas milage had to be rediculous. I was actually shocked when that extra crispy break banjo fitting bolt came right off. It's amazing how Wes gets crusties back on the road up their in SaltVille. Down her in SoFlo that only happens if you're driving on beaches or launching boats regularly without giving the underside of your vehicle a really good pressure wash everytime you do that. You'd be surprised how many nuckleheads don't pressure wash their vehicles then wonder why their vehicles end up a rust bucket in SoFlo are the roads are never salted. Even if you live near a beach or in the Keys you should pressure wash the underside of your vehicle after a hurricane as it tends to leave heavy salt deposits behind on our roads. You can tell by all the dead mangroves and other vegetation from the salt deposits on their leaves. I've gone thru 7 hurricanes so far. 4 while living in the Keys. 2 outside the Keys when I left the Keys and the damn things actually changed course and hit where I'd gone to. 1 after I moved back to south Miami-Dade county. That was Irma.

Had the same issues on my 99. Only thing i could not fix is the blender door motor. When you have it at high heat or coldest setting the motor will continue to turn nonstop and break the plastic socket 😔

I think there is a calibration procedure for that. Most vehicles have one.

You could send those spark plugs to Pakistani truck for reconditioning.. Have a mate I worked for we used to keep the popular used plugs and he’d send them back to Colombo in India, they’d re-use them!
