Player/teacher here with three Martins, including a Brazilian D-28 -- and this is the most resonant guitar I've ever heard. Stunning! Plus the guitar looks dazzling -- would be great as a stage instrument. She plays in a way that brings the sound out quite well, also.

I have a D-45 from the same year. Do not know if it was a special time at Martin but mine has a really tight grained Sitka spruce tone wood top and beautiful East Indian Rosewood back and sides. I’ve been playing martins since 1954 and was brought up playing my father’s 1945 D-18. So I was really spoiled from the days I started playing and addicted to Martins. Yes I have visited the factory twice. Once in 1962, when I brought my fathers D-18 in for fret work and nut replacement, and again last September of 2023, when I was in Bucks county for the wedding of my grand niece. I love the tone of the D-45. It has a very strong base and projects beautifully. I also have a 1969 D-35 that has a totally different tone. It is softer and much more mellow. I also have a number of martins from the 1920s and 1930s. Each is distinctive and unique in tone. Also the fretboards are different in width at the nut and the early guitars made before 1930 have bar frets. My wife asks “Why do you have so many guitars?” I tell her that each has a different voice to play different music. In closing I wish to thank Martin for making really amazing guitars. My earliest Martin is a 1870s 0-28 nylon string guitar that sounds like my 1954 00-18G. Amazing how Martin has maintained the Martin tone for over one hundred and fifty years. Yes, the saying at the factory is “We build the guitars to put in the Martin tone.” I believe this is true and can vouch that there is something in what they say. My guitars say this every time I start finger picking the strings. Thank you Mr Martin! It is wonderful to hear this tone here half the world away in South Korea.
