How does it do at highway speeds 65+? I’d basically only be putting this on for longer road trips. Dig the idea and design.

@coltonroundy4036 works great at highway speeds. I have put many miles on it, still going strong.

VERY COOL! I want to build a truck topper. You just used PVC , tarp, straps and string? How is that holding up? Any issues while driving, any tips? Thanks!

That is the extent of what I used. I also used a PVC glue. It's holding up just fine and has taken abuse. Storms blowing it off, water pooling, etc. My main revision would be adding a spine to the middle top so water would run off better. I have to go out and poke the water pools off after hard rains as it is. I'd also be interested to see this idea with poor man fiberglass technique. If you go for it, post a video so we can check it out!

Could you build it without the pvc pipe near the tailgate? Or would that affect the structural integrity?

@noahgeo5192 I would try it with caution. It would be easy to build it with the cross member but remove it and test it before final glue. You might be able to get away with it if you were to poor man fiberglass the canvas.

Could you heat and curve the top crossbars a little so the water runs off? Project looks good!

I'm sure you could or just add extra cross support on the top/sides to minimize pooling g.

Have you thought about using some sunbrella canvas for the topper? I've been wanting to do this and sew one up simce i own a industrial sewing machine

No. I used the Harbor Freight because of the accessibility. I'm sure sewing your own would offer better fit.

how many miles came on it at 2.5k?

Where did you get the canvas material? Did it come configured for that truck? Thanks.

It's from Harbor Frieght. I posted most of the details on the clubfrontier forums. Just search the same title as the video on Google and it should pop up.

@@YourOwnAdventure Did you really do all that by just folding the cavnas; no cuts? Man, that thing looks like it was custom cut and sewed for your fram. I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado with 8 foot bed and I am totally looking at this option rather than paying $1,000 for the SofTopper. Thanks for the inspiration.

@@stevjaty Yessir! Using the folds under the inside of the pvc frame create a tension that make the whole thing more rigid. I just think of it as wrapping a giant gift. I'd make some revisions to make the back lower and add additional cross bracing just for water drainage but overall I still love the way this came out and it's holding up fine after consistent use and removal. Good luck with it definitely better to try this and save nearly $1k on the soft topper.

@@YourOwnAdventure Built my own frame today out of 3/4" PVC. Not as rugged as your build but I am waiting for my canvas to come in and check it out. I also bought the DAC truck camper tent to use as an entrance and for some ventilzation and screening. So, I am basically into this thing for about $150 instead of $1000. Thanks for your video, it was my go by for the framing.
