Just what I needed, short and to the point also. I think I lost the rod and bottom handle part to. That’s what I get for spraying down the mechanism with WD-40 last time I had the hood open!😃 Thanks again, Dave
My DIY Adventures I also drive a 2000 TDI Beetle, it happened on that one a year ago, unfortunately, no vehicle is built for the long run. Thanks, Dave!
Still have the truck? Mines pretty much a garage queen, mostly tows vintage campers around in the nicer warmer months. Thanks again, didn’t get to installing my new latch yet!👍
Audience, Man I got up this morning to check my oil, and Lord and Behold. I have the same problem with my 1997 Dodge Ram 1500. I hardly drive my truck with 134K miles. I'm on vacation and was just going to check the fluids, but the samething happened to me. You just saved me a mechanic bill. Kudos and Salute to you for this GREAT Superb video Sir. Have a very prosperous and enjoyable week.
This video is to the point and incredibly useful! I was afraid I was going to have to bust out my grill or sawzall a hole in my hood in order to figure out how to open the hood latch with a broken rod mechanism. Its hard to see in that space with the hood shut. And if you don't know that the piece that you show us to hook is actually the hood latch, then you have no idea what to do about the problem. What a simple solution. Less than 10 minutes on the internet, and 5 minutes rounding up a piece of copper tubing and bending it. I actually bent it just right on the first try and had the hood open on the first attempt. Thank you for sharing this video My DIY Adventures! I needed that advice and trick!
It happened to my 2000 Dodge truck today. Lucky to have found your DIY Adventures. Thank you. Because I wasn't finding that hood latch that needed to open. I see it was cold the day yours happened. It was 115° today when it happened to me. Never happens in good weather. But was glad the truck was at home when it did happen. Drilled & pinned it the same way you did. It worked fine after the repair. Thanks.
Took me forever to find this video but glad I did thank you. Couldn't find where that secondary latch was for the life of me. Also, my trucks broke when it was freezing cold and icy too 🙃 😪
1-31=21 CHICAGO 10 INCH OF FRESH SNOW ON GROUND SAME SHIT JUST HAPPEN TO ME AND I HAVE TO RUN A SNOW PLOW CONTROL UNDER HOOD THROUGH DOOR TEMP SET UP ... FREEZING SO CAME IN TO WARM UP AND BINGO nOW I KNOW WHAT THE RELEASE LOOSE LIKE THANKYOU SIR !!! GAVE YOU A THUMBS UP..!
Once I got mine opened I attached a wire to it to open it for the time being mine was hitting my ac condenser. Its to close and looks like it was missing something around the grill cause there is a notch coming out of the grill beside it but nothing is fastened to it.
@@MyDIYAdventures I really need a video that I can compare to some one else's or at least pictures. ru-vid.comtxDpVilNs4k?feature=share I posted this in the cummins forum and every one says my grill is bent inward but my grill can move in or out independent of the hood release arm I did notice yesterday that I could push the hood release arm further into the grill. Something is supposed to hold it there is what I am thinking but I don't know what Video was before my arm completely fell off
i used a few zip ties... attached to the hood latch... and looped another zip tip through the honey comb grill.. ... pull hood latch inside... and the stick finger, in zip tie honey comb.. pull.. hood opens... just saying.. the point is .. i , love zip ties... lol hahah jk
Zip ties are great! They work for everything! I have probably thousands of them in the shop and I always have bunches with me when we go off-roading in the Jeep! Thanks for watching!
