we just had this rodeo at my place. My dad has a 2017 with the CK engine light on the last 3 years he's paid what the law requires to the dealer!!!! The dealer where he bought the truck and it is under warranty but they say they cannot fix it because they don't know what it is so state law says he has to pay $500 and they will Waiver the vehicle... That is Pennsylvania. In March he buys another Dodge truck and the CK engine light is on on that one. Saturday afternoon he came here and I proved to him they are ripping him off. I put in 107 octane avo gas at the airport where I keep my plane.. He went home light was still on he said to me. Next morning light was out.... He is getting scammed by the dealer... SCAM SCAM SCAM... Its the ethenol in the gas and just recently here they have put stickers on most of the pumps in my area. Don't know about other places but You will see CONTAINS 15% ETHENOL... I am told now Super unleaded can contain up to 25% Ethenol. that can't be good for thee Evap..

I own a 19 Ram 1500, Laramie 90,000 miles. It has been a wonderful vehicle. It’s been all around the Midwest for my daughter’s gymnastics. It’s towed a tractor and a skid steer before. The back seat is like a limo. Adult men can sit there. It’s smooth, quiet, comfortable, and powerful. I’ve loved it. I understand your beef with right to repair. I’m glad independent shops can work on it, however I’m past the point in my life of wrenching on my own stuff. My only two problems 1. Gas mileage is what it is 2. I'm on my 3rd Ram. I've had a 2nd gen, 3rd gen, and 4th gen. They've all been really good trucks. The only issue I've ever had is with my 4th gen when the cab vents (2 of them, about 6x6 inches each, located between the back of the cab and the bed) disintegrated and let water stream right into the cab every time it rained. The dealer wanted over $1000 to fix it because they said the bed had to be removed to access the filters (which are literally $8 each, by the way). So, I spent $100 on a Milwaukee electric ratchet, pulled the rear seat, pulled the rear cab panel, and there were the 2 filters. Pulled the old ones, put the new ones in, and put everything back together. Took about 30 minutes total. Literally spent a tenth of what the dealer wanted (before tax, etc.) and didn't have to remove the bed. I've owned trucks from each of the Big 3. They've each been really good in their own way, and none of them ever let me down. But every time I went to the dealer, regardless of the company, I got ripped off. It's what dealers do and that's why people hate them so much. They will lie, cheat, and steal, and then laugh at you for being foolish enough to come onto their lot. It's not just Chrysler. It's all of them. I'm not at all surprised they locked OBD2 access, since gaining access is means you have to go back to the dealer (or a certified mechanic) and give them more money. I'm just surprised more companies DON'T do that. You're right, it's shady business practice, but nobody is going to hold them accountable. Now, you mentioned Honda and Toyota (I think) in this video as companies who don't do that sort of thing with the OBD2 access. My parents are lifelong Toyota fans. Literally won't drive anything else. And I've seen those cars fall apart right out from under them. I've also seen the Toyota dealer screw them so bad my father had to physically stop my mother from throwing a brick through the showroom window. So, to be fair, I think it's safe to say that ALL dealers are shady and should not be trusted, and ALL cars will have recalls and issues here and there, so it's best to just pick your flavor and be as happy as you can with it. We're all in the same boat.

I see so many of these f250 or 2500 series trucks, lift kits, oversized off road tires, and i bet most of them have never left pavement. Or had more than set of golf clubs in the bed. Status symbol to own a truck now because of how overpriced they are. The only people buying them new , could just as easily buy a mercedes or bmw. I work for the largest mining company in the US. We buy on average 60 diesel 2500/250 class trucks per year all over the country. Looking at our 20 year study, Dodge/Ram actually lead the way in our study as for dependability. GM is far and away the worst an Ford is middle of the road. Every truck is serviced every 8k miles.

Scotty I have a 2019 ram big horn and love it. 36000 miles. The shutter system went out and threw a code but it was just moisture in the connector, same with the back up camera after I fixed that has been a awesome truck. Agree as a consumer it’s a ripoff to not access the data. Surprised however as a mechanic you didn’t mention the coil spring rear suspension, along with TH very comfortable seats , it’s a great ride for a pickup. The best for a 1/2 ton full size IMO.

I had a 2019 ram fifth generation I just got rid of it in July. It had 169K on it. I’ve been a Mopar guy for a while, but it was time for something else. I constantly had to fix it I went through three radiators, three water pumps two starters, leaky back window exhaust manifold. Bolts are broken no heat on the driver side, and I kept up with the truck changing oil all the fluids and everything but it was time to say goodbye they just don’t make anything last anymore. It’s sad, it’s one thing if I didn’t take care of the truck but I own my own landscape business so I have to take care of it so I got a 2015 Nissan titan. I hope I have better luck.

i own a 2014 with 5.7L and its a love hate truck, they do have its issues but every brand does. as long as you know the issues and expect them to happen and know how to fix it or know of someone that can for reasonable price. #1 exhaust manifold bolts breaking due to manifold warping from heat cycle, easy fix if you buy your own parts and buy proper gaskets. #2 front diff axle stub shafts wear out quick, find the kit that replaces all stub shafts and inner diff parts and its a easy job for a handyman or mechanic that has tools. #3 heater core, if it fails it is a massive job because the entire dash needs to come out and it is a 10 hour job at minimum. #4 spark plug, not a issue with them but when time to replace them, it is a 8-10 hour job since there is 16 of them and the back two cylinders are a pain to reach if you do not have the proper tool, even then. but main thing is do NOT let the hemi idle for long periods of time and use full synthetic oil with liquimoly addative and change oil more often. or else lifters and cams will fail. sometimetimes give that engine high RPM and put that foot to the floor, this will keep those back 4 pistons lubed up to avoid lifter issues, a hemi needs to breath. they got power. treat it lik a race car motor and it will last longr then the grandpa driven truck, trust me.

Scotty, don't forget one of the biggest problems with Dodge. All 3rd gen rams have the fuel pump relay integrated into the fuse box. If the relay goes bad, and it will (my 2012 2500 went bad and I'm in Fl), you got to replace the entire fuse box. Which is very expensive. But there is a work around for that using verticalvisions tipm plug in relay that uses a spare relay and wiring in the box to restore it without changing the fuse box. Great solution. Then there is the cam shaft and lifter problem with all the Hemi's with the active fuel management requiring the heads to be rebuilt due to worn out lifters, camshaft, and valves. Luckily, I don't have that on my Hemi.
