Having owned a '99 model since '01. I put 95,000 miles on it. And I can deinitely vouch for the reliability. Everytime I change plugs I do a compression test. In 95,000 it hasn't even lost one PSI on any of the cylinders.
@@KaplanCycles I'm actually a bit stunned at that myself as I have seen hundreds maybe even thousands of bikes over the last 20 years working at a used motorcycle shop.
3 955s here, a 1050 and an 800. 2 Sprints 2 S3s. 955 Engine is definitely the best although obviously the 800 is an entirely different tune. This one I bought over at Todd's and rode it to Seattle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RrVHKSYtzxw.html There were some crankshaft issues however.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RJNND0SI7HM.html&t Triumph U.S. were really dicks about it. I had to threaten to sue the second time before they coughed up the fucking parts. Second video.
I have a '99 sprint and I love it he's right it is a smooth easy to ride bike that has predictable handling good brakes it's just a blast to ride what more do you need.
I have a 2000, reliable sexy bike with perfect ergos with the 3 bags all hold full face helmets. Just right for my size and HP for weekend trips or longer. Would like more tech for the ST task now as that becomes ubiquitous like abs or TC as in a ninja H2 SX SE or bmw RT but those are $30k now. Hard to justify that when this one keeps going strong with the looks to match. It is a great used bike buy if you can find one, grab it.
Why have you kept this ad up? Was posted 7 yrs ago 😜 My 2001 Speed Triple finally died at 50,000 miles I bought it at 6k and in 5 yrs put 45k miles LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT The only complaint was paying $1000 every 12,000mi to do a complete service including valve adjustment which was too complicated for me. I used to do my Honda 750, Suzuki GS1100 and Kawasaki ZRX1200(sweet bike) but no can do the Triumph
Lovely bike mate, gorgeous Doggie, :-) newfoundland I think. Such a clever dog, stops shy of main road and waits, even when camera man goes across road to film. Been looking at 1050 version but both bikes seam to tall for me being a short arse 5'4" looking at lowering kits/solutions. I know rider in vid is 6'2" but that 955 bike looks a bit lower and thinner around the seat tank area than the 1050.
Brilliant bike.. I love the triple growl. I put a 1050 Sprint engine in my 2004 sprint. Swapped over the guages and the ecu and the rear cog. Do much more these bikes are capable of bit even just stock like in this video they're a great bike to own their versatility to carry good quality OEM hard panniers is part of their charm. The torque curve is completely flat and wide with HP building linearly with rpm which explains the push you get from only 2000rpm . A magazine compared all engine configurations from single thumpers to triples to twins to v4 etc.. and tgistriple came out the smoothest. The accelerometer on the engine block showed the smoothest not buzzy curve.
You changed the motor from a 955 to a 1050, that is a very big job, not everyone can do that. I wanted to ask you as a good expert, I can't get an answer anywhere. Does a 955 starter motor fit a 1050? I have a broken starter, when heated does not start, it is uneven wear of the rotor fins, as a result of which the brushes do not fit well and the starting current increases, so I want to replace (brushes in good condition) . I have already encountered this problem on honda. P.S. RR new mosfet, generator new, starter relay new, wiring new. replaced because the bike is old :) and stood 5 years without moving.
Yea I bet! My previous ZRX 1200 was so light in the front (stock) that she did wheelies all the time. I sold the Kawasaki for that very reason. Guys would think I was challenging them at a light when in fact I had to watch my wrist action or she would do a wheelie. Sold it to a hot dog kid. A few months later I saw my old bike in parts on the street. He tried out running another hot dog in a car. Car won! Liquor store owner told me the bike rider got picked up by the Coroner. Sad. Last time I sell to a hot dog, inexperienced 22yr old!! I KNEW that kid was NOT ready for that big a bike (OMG it was his First Bike for heaven’s sake) I suggested he start with a 500-650cc but he wanted a 1200 power bike and I needed some cash to get my super low mileage(6,500mi)Speed Triple for a $3500 low price (garaged -engineer owner getting divorced by greedy ex-wife) It was too good to pass up😉
