Tabitha Kim is a gymnast that should be talked about more. The way she carries herself and the way she executes dance elements and expressiveness is exquisite (perhaps due to her FS career too).
I remember watching this and thinking this was a super important meet for the USA Women's team after a disappointing previous quad... A bronze was a real step in the right direction. The Chinese may not have been there but they proved with a relatively young team that they could contend. Good result for them.
The Chinese National Games were just before Worlds. They’re very important to Chinese athletes, so China’s best competed at those games instead. China sent Sun Xiaojiao as the only WAG and sent a B team for MAG.
The scoring system for 2001-04 was a complete failure and disaster. There’s a reason they came up with the open ended scoring. It was interesting to see how Svetlana adapted the sport around her taller stature through her career. She definitely proved that height isn’t a barrier if you just use some ingenuity. I will always feel she was let down by the Sydney vault crew… along with several others.
Hard to believe Miles' floor start value was only at 9.6, considering her tumbling (though I think she had a miss in the third pass). I imagine some dance elements were not counted.
How did Raducan and Ionescu get the same score on beam (9.675), despite Raducan being steady as a rock, sticking her dismount (where Ionescu took a hop) AND having a 10.0 SV (vs. Ionescu's 9.9)? I feel like I'm missing something here..
@@kras118 that would make sense considering it displayed the exact same score however Raducan did have a hop on her mount, she sort of slid forwards on the beam after her front pike
@@06UHthe perfect ten created too many problems. Execution should be rewarded, but so should difficulty, and it didn’t. It serves a purpose In collegiate gymnastics, but not in elite.
Verona Van de Leur, beautiful gymnast, very elegant, very talented ... pity that she has chosen another way of life, but anyway, no one is to criticize...
I always felt she, in a way opened the door for the current generation of Dutch gymnasts who are wonderful to watch. I remember Sanne winning beam in Rio and being so happy to see that country get rewarded for their years of building.
I don't understand how Khorkina ever won any competition, all around or event final. I find her gymnastics to be utterly awkward, arms and legs flailing. Her form is so often so bad. I'm not an expert at all, but I do watch a lot of gymnastics and I just don't get it. The awe in the commentators' voices (not just in this replay, but in others) just baffles me. What am I missing?
Diane Bishop I agree in some ways. The most on her vault. Her form just doesn’t look good. I think it’s mostly how individualistic she was- her height and personality
yeah you know as much as I liked her I do get what you're saying. She would have had more appeal with a couple more pounds perhaps. They say tv adds weight so i can't help but think she must have been shockingly thin at times, Fabulous talent nonetheless.
When France and Spain were ahead of us and we were fifth they did not show any gymnasts from either country. What limited and biased coverage. Although this 2001, your exclusion hurts. I believe the best should win but limiting us to just the Romanians and the Russians is boring.
I don't think this competition was given very much time in the broadcast, And it certainly wasn't shown live. When they probably only had an hour, it makes it hard to show teams that weren't in the medal hunt.
