Love how much effort was put into showing the driver lineup, nowadays they just cram it on the bottom of the screen like it’s an afterthought. I know it’s such a nitpick but I think that graphic is pretty damn cool
There has been a lot of drivers that have been successful at Talladega, including the Earnhardt family - I mean, both Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. In fact, I think Talladega would've still been fun for Sr. had he lived, meaning he would've/could've won a few more races there after then having 10 wins.
R B nascar doesn’t do as much marketing and advertisement as they used to. nearly every other commercial in the 90s had some sort of a nascar reference
lack of personalities and competitive drivers. just looking at the names of this line up, its star studded. they try too many gimmicks to draw in my viewership and eventually pushed the average viewer out.
@@RB-.- what changed?!! first cars at this time had 850HP bout 700 with restrictor plates and now they only have 550HP about 450 with plates they have no HP anymore they went to a new lower HP package and engine in 2016, and ask the new rules and rule changes and stage racing, lack of talent, 3/4 of the field now are bunch of kids most under 25 who most no one has even heard of or they are way over hyped, cars now are mostly carbon fiber not sheet metal meaning you just have the slightest contact and the car is shredded and can't beat out the damage like you can with metal, NAGAR is NOTHING like it was.
Back in the day when I never missed a race. Now I've lost almost all interest in the sport. I keep an eye on Bill Elliott's son here and there. I remember wondering what was going on with Bill during this race. He stayed near the back all race. Seemed like he was scared of these restricter plate races after what happened to Dale Earnhart.
2:27:20 They Would Always say that about Jr getting a Big lead but I've never really seen it comeback to bite him, Especially during the Talledega Streak
I'm so Thankful for NASCAR Existing say what you want but this Era Fucking Rocked.... I would love to see the Modern Feild we have Now run The 499on that Surface in those Cars.
@@wesleyloroff2736 Man your crazy Jr was a very good driver and made a point to not be like his father, and he earned his way up yea Dale gave him advice and helped him but he drove his way to the cup series it wasn't handed to him so that comment is bullshit.
This is one of my Favorites of Junior's. However, I also agree with Junior when he said Jimmie Johnson's car was competitively as good as his own. I kept noticing how Jeff Gordon had a number of opportunities to bump draft Jimmie's car based on the fact it was obviously much faster then his own, and yet Jeff seemed to be more concerned with his own position rather then assisting his then "rookie" team mate. Hell, if you see that your car can't compete to win, then at least help your team mate and owner to get the win, whether he's a rookie or not!
That was the only thing I never liked about Gordon. he was never a good teammate.and usually would wine if you pushed him..awesome career tho.I also think that was the main reason 88/48 was put in same garage. they're probably the best teammates out there n nascar
Matthew Mcdade I Must agree with you :-) However, if Dale Senior had not died when he did, there would probably still be a DEI, and Junior's career would have been much Better!! Woulda Coulda, Shoulda, LOL. Junior will Still Always be my absolute Favorite "Integral" Driver. His Honesty, Integrity and sense of Fair Play has Always impressed me. Who cares what the 'numbers' say? He did it with Heart!! :-)
I think his numbers are fixing to be huge. over next 5.years.but I agree it did hurt jr.badly.I don't think you've seen his best yet.signs I've never seen before jr. and ives..
Matthew Mcdade I would just be satisfied to see Junior win just One Championship, and that's Only because I know that's what 'he' wants. :-) I doubt that Anybody will Ever match the Greats (Petty, Earnhardt, SR, David Pearson's etc..) again, because the field and Rules of competition have Changed entirely Too Much for that to ever happen. But Junior is also one of the best "skilled" Drivers around. And yes, thankfully he still has a few years to go yet. :-)
+Matthew Mcdade lol. Not. The only reason jr went to the same building with Johnson was because Gordon wanted to work with Alan Gustafson so he took the old 5 team which became the 24 and jr took over the old 24 with Steve... Gordon was the top dog and made that choice. Jr should be thankful it was able to happen. He was horrible at Hendrick before the teams switched.
Just for the record before the we annihilated the lead change record, that did not occur in May 1994, it was May 1984. Since those records that you see, the only two that have not changed are the fastest race, and of course the qualifying speed. -The most lead changes is now 88 (April 2010 and April 2011). -Most leaders is now 29 (April 2010) -Closest margin of victory is 0.002 of a second (April 2011 Johnson over Bowyer).
In 2019 that could change things. The aero package for the Daytona and Talladega races starting in spring 2019 Talladega race NOT 2019 Daytona 500 NO restrictor plates.
All I can think is “what if” what if dale sr never passed away? Dei would be #1 race team , nascar would still be alive and well, dale sr would have became a nascar executive after retiring from rcr and maybe jrs career would have been wayyy better although he had a decent career
I genuinely believe NASCAR would be MUCH more popular and successful today if he was still alive. I think all of the pundits today underestimate just how much he WAS NASCAR.
32:20 - Why are the DEI cars so good? Carroll Smith revealed it's because they've assembled a driveline that has about 6-8% less rotational drag than other teams. That translates to an advantage of roughly 20-40 hp, maybe more. Knowing this, it should come as no surprise they were always out front at plate tracks!
This was what I consider a phase out towards a new and crappy generation of nascar. It was still the Winston cup but not not for long, no more Dale Earnhardt sr, Jeff Gordon still competitive and getting a W now and again, but not like he was, veterans who were once dominant were no longer a huge threat but still ran respectably (Gordon, Labontes, Jarrett, Ricky rudd, mark Martin, Geoff bodine, bill Elliott, Kenny Shrader, Kyle Petty). Some up and coming promising youngins like Newman, smoke, Johnson, Jr., Kenseth. Then you had some guys like Jeff Burton and Michael Waltrip who had driven for 10 plus years but were just starting to become a ssrious car to watch for and win every week
Nobody could beat dale jr and that number 8 car at Talladega on this years race That's a fact That 8 car was simply the quickest in the race Led the most laps as well I don't even care about what people think about the family Fact is that dale jr was just so much quicker on these tracks End of subject
Steve park rusty Wallace Terry Labonte mark Martin Casey Atwood Bill Elliott Johnny benson Matt Kenseth Bobby Labonte Jeremy Mayfield Tony Stewart Elliott Sadler Kevin Harvick Robby Gordon ken schrader mike Wallace jimmy spencer John Andretti Steve Grissom Bobby Hamilton Dave blaney Geoffrey bodine Ricky Rudd
This race is proof the networks were "amping up" the crowd noise in later years whenever Dale Jr. would take the lead at Talladega. The crowd was going no less nuts here when he did, but you didn't hear the crowd noise like you do starting in about 2003 or so onwards.
Kenny should have had that spot, he was already established on the inside of SM before ducking below the line to avoid contact, since SM didn't see him and kept coming down. Then NASCAR went on to say that Dale Jr's identical move just a year later was clean and legal.
Why did Matt Kenseth have only one headlight decal on his car? Also Ricky Rudd with the bright red numbers on the top of his car skated in the grass to get through
@@justinknust2395 I would agree, but look at his comeback race (2002 Carolina Dodge Dealers 400). Picked up where he left off until he got too anxious to lap Stacy Compton.
If only jr kept up how he was winning before he joined Hendrick instead of only getting like 4 wins in the last 5 years before 2014 he would have a lot more wins
