Ive got this ride > from 2002. Just getting back into RC after 20yrs. Back in 02 My uncle and I had a killer track on fresh poured concrete in his 70ft by 20ft pole barn. We bought ALL the aftermarket parts we could find in them days. Aluminum Carbon Fiber whatever we could find. Flash forward 20yrs later, Im just getting back into RC. Pulled my RS4 out and realize it has a Tekin Mini Ecs I used like 3x > and I have a full set of brand new in the bags Proline Aluminum wheels and Tires for all 4 corners. Its got like 6 minor scratches on the pan.... Im in Heaven!! Cant wait to get this thing running with Lipos and my Flysky Noble4 w/ micro reciever (which I bought just for this) First stop is a real 1/18th scale motor > which is exactly where I left off at in 2002. Back in 02 there literally 1 aftermarket motor you could put in this superb 1/18 touring car. And it needed heavy modifying to get it in.
It's a brilliant design and very economical to run; the 4 AA cell modular battery pack is one of my favorite features. The Micro RS4 is more imposing than the old XMods or Mini-Z and is fun to run around a 1/10th scale track. It's too bad HPI succumbed; it's back but a shadow of its former self and the Micro RS4 is out of production.
I always wanted to get a HPI Micro RS4.. but the HPI brand was never really available here, eventually got a Xray M18, but hardly ever used it… I always kept longing for a Micro RS4 though, for me personally, it’s the ‘original’ 1/18th scale 4wd platform.
I just got a micro rs4 kit original unbuilt and still in the box. Mine is the Porsche body. Anyway I can make a nice drift car out of it? Any thoughts on setup if so. I’m kind of new to cars
Unfortunately I don’t but I for some reason believe there’s or was tires you could get. Perhaps eBay might have. You could always go black electric tape.😃
Could be worth going with a hobbywing 1625 esc if it ever fails, handles 3s lipo & 2s lipo as well if you want too have an ESC with a lipo cutoff. A 370 motor is a pretty good upgrade for these if you need more speed for sure, pretty much any motor, but i believe the graupner speed 300 6v is a good motor or the team associated super 370. Kind of neat that it can run off 4x aa's though as it is.
@@LukesVintageRC Decided too try out a magic eraser against a lexan body covered in permanent marker for my old mini-z monster clone called the Iwaver 04 going through the box of parts while working on my mini-z mr01 (got that running now actually somewhat well, just some minor glitching from the old 27 mhz stuff that i need too clean & sort out a bit.) Took some time with the lexan body but it cleaned up way better then expected. (ofc be careful around any decals you want too save.) Rcuniverse has an image on the blue one there that was in general the advertisement image where you can see the lexan body with all decals intact when they were sold online like 12+ years ago. (One major advantage Iwaver had vs the real thing by kyosho was the much lighter lexan body & way more powerful mosfets on the pcb allowing for hotter motors & up too 8.4v if you wanted too add a lipo or a whole bunch extra aaa's.) www.rcuniverse.com/forum/1-16th-1-18th-mini-micro-rc-cars-235/3055160-how-fast-iwaver-1-28-monster-trucks-go.html Dunno if youtube might remove my comment here due too the link but this was covered in black & red permanent marker almost across the entire thing, anything not silver or covered by a decal was marked over by me back then in 2008 or so. Only decal that survived my escapades with both scissors, lack of care in general as a kid & said permanent marker at 14 years old somewhat is the decal in the bed of this lexan shell, kind of wish i took a before picture now, i did not do a good job with those permanent markers for sure hahah. puu.sh/FYWsm/aecb8a0936.jpg I do have a better shell sitting on a rolling chassis i built just as a memento too this little truck as I'm setting aside some money towards parts here & there (missing minor stuff like pinion gears, motor, servo assembly (terrible storage made some plastics shrink over the years so i cant actually build up the servo completely because those parts have shrunk & warped slightly.) (Also missing a few decals & a pair of them needs some glue too stick down in place on that nicer lexan shell.) (Super cheap paper decals unfortunately so regular tape or just being wet for a while can destroy them too.) But wanted too try sorting out my original shell a bit even if i cut the crap out of it with scissors so the tires wouldn't rub against the body when the suspension flexed too far. Also the promo for the mini-z monster truck is still pretty entertaining if you haven't seen it before. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XerLPiBbFDM.html
