I don't know why I'm so fascinated with the Space Gear, but it stems from seeing a fully modded model with bull bar and extra lights, black paint, roof ladder and all terrain tires. I'm normally not a fan of these larger cars, but the body shape of the Space Gear is really cool.

Err.... Point of order. This Delica is a 7 seat version. NOT an 8 seat version. Please count the seat belts. You have driver seat and front passenger seat. 3 seats in middle row and only 2 seats for the 3rd row. The Delica with the Crystal lite roof (I had one! Love it. Miss it.), is a 6 seater version. Driver and front passenger seats. Middle row had 2 seats that could rotate backwards and the one nearest the door could be locked facing the open door. And the 3rd row also had just 2 seats. It was such a configurable vehicle. 9/10 I'd have the first two rows of seats in use with the 3rd row, tied up, out of the way to the side. Gave you a big caro area. And if you needed more room, the middle row seats could be folded up and pushed forwards against the front seats. That gave you an area of about 7 foot flat in length. Something that a Range Rover could never hope to achieve. Plus, the Delica was impeccably reliable too. Again, something that a Range Rover could never aspire too. :-))... Good video. Just the wrong info :-))...

There is a lap belt in the rear row sections.

@@BinaryFission - Look at the last row of seats. There are only two seats. Not three. Unless, that is, you're telling me that someone sitting in the middle would have to straddle BOTH seats and have no head restraint and that the lap belt would go from one seat to the other seat? Trust me. I used to have a 6 seater Delica. It was a 2+2+2. The middle row had "pilot seats" that would swivel 180 degrees backwards and had arm rest. But there were only two seats in the rear. The only difference between my Delica and this one were the middle seats. Mine had 2, this one has 3. Look @8:11 into the video. You can see the three middle seats (One nearest door is folded.) and the two rear seats and no lap belt.
@BinaryFission
@BinaryFission 4 года назад
@@thezanzibarbarian5729 yup. Exactly that. Its not a comfy seat straddling the two, but there is a belt and buckle for it. Ive had four Delicas so pretty much know them inside and out. Image i.ebayimg.com/images/g/5voAAOSw3FBbIOJ4/s-l400.jpg lap belt and pockets clearly visible

@@BinaryFission - Then I bow down to your greater knowledge. I know my Delica only had 6 seats and the rear was definitely just 2 seats. I had the curtains and Crystallite roof windows too :-))... I miss my old beast though. Sold it 10 years ago. But nothing could phase it. Not even 3ft of flood water. I used to take mine fishing and some venues, when carp fishing, I could park at my peg and with the middle seat nearest the door turned facing the door (Door open.), I'd sit there and fish from there. And looking down on Range Rover drivers on the road was always a treat :-))... Stay safe Aidan.

@@thezanzibarbarian5729 yup. Truly amazing vehicles. Had three diesel ones that I've taken offroad and muddy camping trips. Wife and kids mean more comfort needed now so the new one is having a pop top and full camper install. Gonna be lovely for weekend breaks in the middle of nowhere. New one is the exact same model as this but without the sunroofs.

Does Toyota sell something similar to this?? I know the Alphard/Vellfire range is FWD, on road use only type of van. I'm really surprised the Delica or something like it hasn't made it to the USA. Anything 4wd and kind of butch is super hot right now, has been for the past 10 years or so. This van turns the notion of the "uncool" soccer mom van on its head. Somehow Subaru has managed to convince people their ugly ass wagons are cool and have a rugged image, I don't think it would be much of a stretch to convince people that a Delica type van is cool. Main thing is the badge though, Mitsubishi has no credibility(and a crap dealer network), but slap a Subaru, Toyota or Honda badge on this van, they wouldn't be able to keep them on the lot IMO.

@@spencersmith7533 I was talking as to why the Delica(or something like it) isn't sold brand new in the USA. We can't import JDM cars in the USA until they are 25 years old, so condition kind of sucks on something like a 25 year old van.

Toyota has a 4WD HiAce and Townace as well as the Liteace. There's a ton of cars you don't get in the US because your government doesn't like it and puts up red tape so local manufacturers don't lose all their sales. Mazda had the Bongo Van, Nissan had the Cedric and Homie, but the Delica was alone in its styling and not like all other vans. It's basically a Pajero underneath.
