What a comeback for the Angels

- This was Jeff Kent final game/season with the Giants, as he will sign with the Astros in the offseason. Great run he had with the Giants, including winning the 2000 NL MVP - Russ Ortiz of the Giants will play with Atlanta next season 2003. - Livan Hernandez of the Giants will play with the Expos next season 2003. - Kenny Lofton played his last game with the Giants this 2002. - Giants closer Robb Nenn final season is this 2002 season, as he will retired due to injuries. What a great and underrated closer he was. - This was Dusty Baker's final game/season as manager of the Giants. He had a great run. He will sign with the Cubs in the offseason. But he wont win another World Series till who knows. With all the information above, you would think the Giants will be just an OK team in 2003, but surprisingly, they will win 100 games, although the Pythagorean W-L had them winning 93 games in 2003. A benefit for the 2003 Giants is that both the Dodgers and the DBACKS will be just OK in 2003 and not great like they were in 2002.

And just like that the 2002 season highlights are complete. It took a while but it’s finally done. A tip of the hat to SW561 for all those season highlights. He is the best RU-vidr on YT with all due respect to the others. Now on to 2003. Keep it up.

What irony; this was posted 2 days after Dusty Baker finally won the big one in 2022

The World Series shifted back to Anaheim for Game 6. Southern California native Russ Ortiz looked to give the Giants the title, while Kevin Appier looked to atone for his poor outing in Game 2. And for the first four innings, Appier and Ortiz allowed just one hit each and no runs. Come the fifth, Shawon Dunston came up with a man on, and Dunston hit a two-run home run to give the Giants the lead. SF added another run in the inning. K-Rod came on to stop the bleeding. But in the 6th, Barry Bonds responded with yet ANOTHER mammoth blast to Palm Springs. His 4th series home run, and his record 8th in the postseason. Jeff Kent added an RBI single in the top of the 7th to extend the lead to 5-0. With Russ Ortiz pitching a two-hit shutout through 6 innings, the Giants seemingly have the title under lock and key. With one out in the 7th, Glaus and Fullmer singled. On came Felix Rodriguez to pitch. And Russ Ortiz was handed the game ball from Baker as a potential keepsake. Well, Scott Spiezio's fly ball just cleared the wall in right for a three-run shot. The Rally Monkey was alive and well in Anaheim. One inning later, Darin Erstad homered to make it a one run game. Salmon singled. So did Anderson, and when Bonds bobbled the ball in left, Chone Figgins (running for Salmon) moved to third. On came Robb Nen to face Troy GLaus with runners on 2nd and third, no outs and the Giants clinging to a 5-4 lead. With a 2-and-1 count, Glaus hit a bullet over Bonds' head in left. Both runners scored the Angels came all the way back to take a 6-5 lead. Troy Percival got a strikeout, a pop up, and a strikeout in the 9th to seal the win and incredibly, force a Game 7. Huge comeback win for the Angels, and the most crushing loss in Giants' history. Of course, the Giants still had a Game 7, and they could still win it all. They had Livan Hernandez on the mound. The Angels countered with John Lackey, looking to become the first rookie since the Pirates' Babe Adams in 1909 to win a decisive 7th game. Both teams scored a run in the 2nd. Then, in the third, the Angels loaded the bases. Garrett Anderson, who had 56 doubles in 2002, did it again, with a two-bagger that scored three runs and put the Angels ahead 4-1. For 8 innings, three Angels' pitchers who began the season in the minors, were brilliant. Lackey for five innings, Brendan Donnelly for two more, and then in the 8th, K-Rod capped his phenomenal postseason (5-1 in 2002 playoffs, 1.93 ERA, 28 Ks in 18 1/3 innings) by striking out the side. On to the 9th, and Troy Percival did allow two runners to reach. With one out, the tying run was at the plate. But Percival fanned pinch-hitter Tsuyoshi Shinjo for the 2nd out. Then, on one pitch, Lofton hit one to center, where Darin Erstad caught it. Anaheim Stadium became Fantasyland, as the Anaheim Angels won it all for the first time ever. Troy Glaus' performance earned him the WS MVP honors. Barry Bonds had 4 home runs in the series and a OBP of over .600, but it was not enough. The Angels would go on to make the playoffs 5 more times in the 2000s, but 2002 will be their only world title--and only pennant--going into 2024. As for the Giants, it would be 8 more years before they would finally get their title. Well, SW561, thanks SO much for over 53 1/2 hours of phenomenal highlights for the entire 2002 season with a lot of twists, turns, a near-strike, a long winning streak, and in the end, California' dreaming for the Angels. But if we all thought 2002 was wild, wait til the 2003 uploads come about.

1:55 Bonds BLAST off KROD 2:43 The moment that ticked off the Angels = Dusty Baker giving the gameball to Russ Ortiz while on the mound when it was just the 7th inning Horrendous loss for the Giants and Dusty Baker and Barry Bonds. Ouch, just ouch. As for the Angels, they won the World Series on a season that many thought they were rebuilding, after trading Mo Vaughn in the 2001 offseason, and with Disney looking to sell since they were losing money. Impressive. 2002 Angels will always be the most aggressive team offense I have ever seen. I never saw the Cardinals team offense in the 1980's. It was a fun World Series overall. Most of the games were close and one run games. No complaints.

The San Francisco Giants won three World Series titles since 2002 and yet most Giants fans *STILL* haven’t gotten over the pain of this game.

It happens as a sport fans there's always a particular championship game we wish our team won but it was just meant to be my dodgers had to wait 32 years to finally win a world series after choking vs the Astros and Red Sox it is what it is

@@hmhm856 The Rangers franchise did not feel anywhere near as “cursed” as the Giants and Red Sox were…remember that the previous year before 2011 they won their first-ever playoff series so the heartbreaks those other teams went through just wasn’t there yet

Then the year after, he did the opposite extreme by leaving his starter in for way too long. I've suspected for years that was an overcorrection for pulling Ortiz too soon.

The Giants choked this one away. It would be their last WS loss to date as is the only WS title in Angels' franchise history.

Such an epic at bat for Spezio with the ball carrying out, also him and Eckstein would win another title together four years later with the Cardinals. Interesting how the this would be the Giants' only World Series appearance in the 15 years Bonds played there yet within three years of his last game for them they began a run of three titles in five seasons
