2002 The 500 presented by Toyota | INDYCAR Classic Full-Race Rewind 

I remember watching this race at cal speedway with my dad when I was 7 years old I remember leaving the track getting to the freeway and it started to rain. Miss you dad thanks for taking me see you up there one day Godspeed

My Dad and I went to the race, a Great race. The best race the track ever had even the track promotion said that.

The best battle...Jaques Lazier v/s Sam Hornish Jr. 1:48:13 - 1:48:44 with a beautiful camera on board J. Lazier....without these cameras the IRL would't be the same...and cheers for Hornish..for me.. the best driver of IndyCar

IIRC Penske had already made the move in 2002. 2001 was when they did selected races to learn. That surely helped da Matta and Newman-Haas to dominate CART the way the did.

@F1Electro CART and the IRL went to court over the IndyCar name and it was ruled that CART could use it until the end of 1996 but the IRL could use it after the end of the 2002 season. Thus why 1996 was still the PPG IndyCar World Series and 1997 it was the PPG Cup and in '98 it was CART FedEx Championship Series. Also thus why it went from IRL in '02 to IndyCar Series in '03. They called this video IRL because CART also held a race in 2002 at California, that's my guess at least.

The CART race here in the same year drew more spectators. There was also more passing. The grandstands for this IRL race seem just barren

Notice the CART teams like Ganassi, and Team Rahal all experimenting with the IRL before they made the official move to the series in 2003

That should be correct, because they were rev-limited, otherwise they could have made more hp from 3,5 litres.

Jeeze how many laps did Hornish draft cheever and couldn't pass. CART you would think a head, set it up, draft and hang on for dear life while sling shotting around. This looks like Current day Indycar speedway racing. I hate it and can't wait till 2012 when racing becomes exiting again.

Why "IRL" in the title? Why not call it indycar? When will VERSUS have an TV show on indycars? SPEED has become a joke.
