This Toyota RAV4 that we earlier replaced the engine in has a PO758 transmission code (shift solenoid B electrical), We troubleshoot starting from easy to hard operations until we arrive at a resolution. This is the U140F automatic transaxle.
Note that for these vehicles there is a service bulletin released by Toyota specifying that possible cause for this code and a few others may require a PCM reprogram, however the troubleshooting procedure to arrive at whether this is necessary requires starting at the bottom. The only way to determine if this is necessary is to eliminate every other possibility first. It is very difficult to asses internal clutch condition without disassembling the transaxle, so we gambled and skipped this step.
We have not been able to find what causes this problem to happen. These transaxles may operate just fine for a long time and then suddenly throw this code. So as far as an exact root cause or trigger event, we are still in the dark. Refer to Toyota Technical Service Bulletin TC002-06 for details.
