Got to feel for them, I caught myself out like that once with my old transit. Left it parked in a full lock, steering lock clicked on and I couldn't get the lock to come off. Walked a mile home, got my spare key, walked back, still no good. AA came out, gave the wheel a proper wiggle as they turned the key - it struck straight up and I felt like a right div!
The customer went to VW (presume main dealer) to get quote for parts. What would the parts cost from a scrap yard?? Considerably less I would have thought. Certainly cheaper than buying another (replacement) car. Save it.
