Appreciate the info bro most dudes show a drawing that's inaccurate. Not even the Haynes manual shows it's exact location. Do you think its possible to change without removing the manifold?
@ERICSDIYGARAGE
@ERICSDIYGARAGE 5 лет назад
yes its possible, you can get a flex head small ratchet or a thin regular ratchet and sneak it out from the front of the manifold, it wont be easy but I have personally replaced it like this in the past

I have one of these nightmares. It is flat out a nightmare what you have to remove just to change the plugs. The plug wires are another adventure. Hats off to tackle the jungle. I got a set of wire, coils and new iridium plugs on Amazon for $80.00 or so. All the plumbing and 10,000 miles of wire no one would own one of these if new what it takes to fix them.

Another Awesome for Eric! On that small radiator hose connection.....yes, I broke it at the radiator & only a tiny portion of radiator plastic was left. However, using a tiny metal dowel about 1 inch long with JB Weld I was able to make a secure connection. Insert the dowel halfway into where the plastic tit used to be & the other half into the hose. Apply JB liberally, allow to set 24 hours before starting motor. Check for leaks before going to Alaska.

ERICSDIYGARAGE .....Eric, I kinda figured you would break that tiny plastic radiator tit. I watched the way you were manhandling that hose! LOL! P.S. I lied. Mine leaks a little bit too but after a month, I've yet to add any liquid. Great video! Audio & lighting were excellent. Most people have No Idea the work that goes into something like that. Now, do one on how to put it all back together! LOL...again!
@ERICSDIYGARAGE
@ERICSDIYGARAGE 6 лет назад
I didn't break it in this video but I did break it when I installed the crankshaft and camshaft sensors, I learned from the mistake now lol, i ended up replacing mines since it would still leak but I know it can work. In part 3 I show you how to put it back together. Its hard work,it took me 3 days to film it.
@billcallahan9303
@billcallahan9303 6 лет назад
ERICSDIYGARAGE .....Three days? I'm surprised it didn't take you three weeks! What got my attention & appreciation was the effort that went into getting the good (and important) close-ups of the stuff on the back end & down the sides especially....not to mention the lighting where a viewer could actually SEE what you were doing. Lots of these tech help videos could take lessons from you Eric. Don't pay attention to the dumb asses that gave you a few thumbs down. There's always some jerk in the werks! I'd say jealousy is the number one reason. I'm subscribing now so once I tear it down I'll know how to put it together! Many Thanks!

Rather than make that hole, you can just remove the 4 bolts that hold the power steering pump. Once you do that, the plastic peace comes up enough to remove the bold. What I did was loosen the bolt and then with a magnet, took it out. Making sure no to drop it. I wil use the magnet to put it back...
@robertwebb4812
@robertwebb4812 5 лет назад
You are exactly right. If you remove the power steering pump, then the 4 bolts holding the cover, you can lift the cover up and twist counter clockwise to expose the last bolt. Then use a magnet to extract. Just had to do this yesterday. Valve cover gaskets started leaking after 15 years. Gaskets were rock hard. Not complaining though. Hope the new gaskets last just as long.
@hermescalderon6271
@hermescalderon6271 5 лет назад
Everyone should avoid to make that hole. Some body had made the hole in my car. So, one bolt from the engine cover fall through the hole, which result in a timing belt issue and consequently an engine repair.

Just had an an 05 where one or more of the plenum bolts is white oxide corrosion seized inside holes and felt like they would just twist and snap off inside.I used PB blaster and a air hammer with flat punch rattled on top of bolt head and kept working back and forth with liberal amounts of penetrant luckily got the bolt unscrewed and plenum off.

Interesting coil setup. There's a type of coil that runs 2 spark plugs. But it looks like a coil over plug setup on one side with a lead from each coil going to the plugs on the other side. First time I have seen one like that. I opened up my 08 Australian built ford for the first time a few days ago. Its coil over plug but instead of straight down they're actually on like a 20 degree angle. But the back bit is level with the valve cover. What was strange was that they have no small bolt holding them on. They're just SITTING THERE with a plastic cover plate that covers the whole top of the valve cover to stop them falling out. And they have no beauty cover because that plate IS the final cover.

hey Eric, much thanks for making the effort to post this video. I need to replace the pcv valve on my 05 Sorento. It's in the same location as what you showed in this video. Here's my question: do I have to take the intake manifold off of the engine to change out the pcv valve? Or will removing the windshield wiper guard give me enough room? Thanks for your help.
@ERICSDIYGARAGE
@ERICSDIYGARAGE 7 лет назад
Ryan Yates thank you for watching, i had a video showing you how to replace the pcv valve but i deleted it by accident, You do not need to remove the intake manifold or the wiper motor, i was able to sneak my hand behind the manifold and get the hose off of the pcv valve next you will need a to get creative with your tools i used a ratchet with different types of extensions also a deep socket, i dont remember the size of it could be a 14 or 17, if you dont have a deep socket you can try to use a wrench. If i get more questions on this i will remake the video showing you how to replace the pcv valve.

unbolt power steering pump , and small bracket and the timing coves slides over just enough to expose the bolt and NO CUTTING NEEDED.
@charleskuss8538
@charleskuss8538 3 года назад
Don't leave that hole in the top of the passenger side upper timing belt cover. Any hard object falling down there will destroy your timing components and possibly the top of the engine. Foolish to risk thousands of dollars of possible damage to save half an hour. Clean grease/oil etc. off the cover. Cut a piece of plastic off of a gallon milk jug or similar to create a patch. Cover that hole with your patch and RTV [silicone sealer]. Better to do as Steve Perrett mentioned and move the plastic cover forward. If you use your air ratchet, it really doesn't take long to get the power steering pump out of the way. The added space also makes it easier to re-install the valve cover & gasket without knocking the gasket out of place. Removing both upper timing belt covers reduces the chance of the gasket coming out of place during re-assembly. It also allows you to view the area behind your timing belt. Look to see if either of the camshaft oil seals are leaking. If they are, it will be MUCH easier to replace them with the valve covers already off. Hot oil from leaking seals will cause premature failure of the timing belt. ATF is not adequate to coat those spark plugs. Use anti seize. Those spark plug threads were making a loud squeaking noise as you removed the spark plugs, because they were dry. Spend the extra 3 minutes to coat the plug threads with anti seize. It could save you having seized spark plugs at the next plug change interval. ATF will not keep those plug threads free for 60,000 or more miles.

@charleskuss8538
@charleskuss8538 10 месяцев назад
@markchidester6239 I am curious, can you point me to somewhere in a written document that actually states that NGK claims not to use anti-seize on their spark plug threads? I realized you have to be careful not to allow the anti-seize to get onto the porcelain section of the spark plug or you'll short it out.

A pro mechanic or smart owner will replace the PCV valve & all the rubber hoses that are covered up by the intake plenum [upper section of the intake]. Either buy new intake gaskets or buy an aerosol can of Copper Coat to coat the old intake plenum gaskets if you want to re-use them. www.amazon.com/401612-Copper-Coat-Aerosol-Wt/dp/B000M8NZ8E Changing spark plug wires is a PITA on this car. I'd change those at the same time, because the job is MUCH easier with the intake plenum and valve covers off.

It doesnt really matter its on a vavle cover not as important as a flywheel or a head bolt

elahn tupai the car will need a timing belt soon but not at the moment, If you look on RU-vid you will be able to find a video of showing you how to Replace it, i forget the guys name but theres a good video showing you how to Replace it.

timming belt is WAY harder than this. do not attempt unless you have experience on this engine. its an 800$ job at dealer. but so much to go wrong if you mess up

if the valve cover gasket is torqued in the wrong sequence it could crack ! take some advise from a A.S.E. master certified tech with 40 plus years experience .
@ERICSDIYGARAGE

You probably mean the valve cover itself. These bolts get torqued to roughly 10ft lb I find that very hard to believe. Not sure why you would be watching a repair video if your a master tech with 40 plus years

@@papatech1843I have found that with that O-ring type of seal, if you keep going around the bolts torquing little by little the seal will squeeze down much more evenly. I use a 1/4" drive screwdriver handle and go a little at a time. Takes a few laps around the torque sequence but works great. After the first lap, the first bolts tightened are loose again. Keep going until their not loose anymore. Hope I said that right.

@@ERICSDIYGARAGE ok. still not sure, but hey, i am working on my 2005 sorento right now and there is oil coming out of the engine block where it fastens together. Would replacing the valve cover gasket fix that problem or is it a blown head gasket. I don't know how to tell the difference. the engine isn't over heating but pressure is building in the coolant system and shooting out coolant from the overflow when I drive. not sure what is happening

@@rbb7977 it's hard for me help without seeing what's wrong any way you can record where the oil is coming out of? you could have a bad head gasket or it could be somthing else.
