2003 - 2007 Honda Accord common issues 

I have a 2006 Accord. Fantastic car but it has had a few of the issues in this video. It also broke a drive axle (due to road salt corrosion) years ago. Still, it has 222K miles and drives like new.

I did had a 2007 Honda Accord SE with the 2.4L engine. One of the best cars I ever had. Most of the issues I had were 90% wear and tear(struts, the front engine mount, etc). Though after about 150K miles, the engine was consuming a quart of oil every 1500 miles, but it's common on the 2.4L when they get older. One of the best Accord generations.

My 2005 Accord has been remarkable. I have changed the oil and filters religiously and replaced the brake pads, and fluid twice in 220,00 miles. I doesn't burn or leak oil, coolant, or trans fluid. Suspension is still OEM. The radio has been replaced by an aftermarket unit years ago. It's my daily driver to this day. I guess I should change the spark plugs to show it I care.😊

One thing not well known, in the early 2000s the US govt changed the bumper standards. That is why you still see so many 6th gen accords. The 6th gen accord is designed to have no damage in impacts below 5mph (like parallel parking) but 7th gen and later bumpers no longer required it to easier pass crash tests, but a parking bump could total a car.

My old 2006 Accord gave me 12 years and 380,000 hard miles of use. It was and still remains the best car that I have ever owned.

Wow!!! I always wondered for 18 years now what that buzzing noise is when cranking sometimes is!!! Thank you for explaining that I was cranking too slow. I usually turned the Key to ON and let the fuel pump finish running before cranking to start

I have exactly this car, 416.000 km, still runs like a champ. Only the rust will eventually kill it

In my experience, your list is pretty much spot on and I've replaced some of the parts you mentioned on various models of that generation. This is my personal experience: my wife drives a 2005 LX 2.4 auto sedan (purchased new) that now has about 163,000 miles on it. What I've replaced because the part went bad: LCA (one compliance bushing tore, the other completely separated from the arm) stabilizer bar end links, stabilizer bar bushings, CV axles, exhaust down pipe, upper transmission mount, downstream O2 sensor, alternator, starter motor, serpentine belt tensioner. CV axles and O2 sensor were replaced with OEMs, which cost a bit. Everything else was aftermarket so the cost for those parts were low. Maybe $1500 for everything, which i think is very reasonable after 18 years, and the parts were all not difficult to replace. The car uses oil. Everyone I know with a K24 has some type of oil consumption issues. But having to add a quart of two between oil changes is trivial. At 5,000 miles the front brakes were shot; the dealer warrantied them. But after that the pads have never lasted as long as they should and the rotors always go bad in a very short period of time. The rotor issue is a common problem that you can find complaints about all over the Internet. Rear has drum brakes so they've only had the shoes replaced once. Radio stopped producing sound. I've been looking for a (hard to find) replacement (just the radio unit) and in the interim I installed a basic $100 after market deck. Engine runs lean - can't find the cause. Otherwise the car drives like new and has been awesome.

This generation and the next one after this are really good cars. They are so easy to work on and there's a huge volume of information out there on how to do just about anything to them.

Love this video! I just gave my parents my 07 2.4 with 160k and it was driving well! It had some of those issues listed: Started replaced-at a shop for about 500 Air intake replaced at same time Reae and front struts replaces-diy but wouldn't do those rear again lol Sway bars and then rear alignment bar. Alignment issues that never seemed to have a true cause from the mechanics i took it too. And most annoying was the dual hvac, sometimes driver side would be really hot while right was cool, but i could turn all way cold and it would be fixed. Overall it has been a great car! Would get again

My 2006 accord started to burn oil due to an error from the mechanic shop I got my oil changed (didn’t pour enough oil in and embarrassingly, of course I didn’t check until it was too late). For those who own this car but burns oil, DO NOT USE CASTROL GTX OIL. This engine consumes Castrol oil significantly (1 quart every 500-700miles) . I switched to Valvoline and the engine burns significantly less oil (1 quart every 1200-1500miles).

I got a 03 accord ex 2.4L 4 cylinder runs magically. The power steering pump o rings wear out over time and slowly begin to leak power steering fluid from the lines that lead to the pump onto the alternator below. (Make sure you keep an eye on this) When the o rings wear out it will cause air to get in the lines and create tiny air bubbles if you open your reservoir when the engine is running or when it’s off. I went ahead and got mine replaced and the air bubbles disappeared. It’s only 2 small rubber O rings that need replacing.

I bought my 2006 Accord 2.4L in 2018 (first ever car and still driving it!) Positives: Virtually no mechanical issues (started at 199,000km/123,600mi, currently at 316,000km/196,000mi) Negatives: - A/C compressor failed - Exhaust Repairs due to RUST, not part failure (please rustproof if you own one).

common issue in Canada: 1- lower ball joint love to break without warning. 2- power steering high pressure love to leak at the pump 3- radio drain battery or dead but also drain battery 4- catalyst converter too easy to get stolen. 5- for a v6 look like the battery is too small for that big radio. that cause alternator meet heaven too fast.

Thanks for the video. Everything you pointed out did happen with mine. I think it’s time to replace. We want to get a mini suv or cross over not new but newer. What year make and model do you recommend? We are open to any make as long as they are reliable. Maybe 2006-2020

I an in N.C. and I see a lot of these 03 to 2007 Accords that still look like new . Especially the white ones.

I had a 2004. Ball joints, burned a quart of oil between oil changes. I was very happy with 2004. Now i had 1991 accord that was amazing. Radio failed and valve cover gasket leaked and one 02 sensor. I compare my 2019 crv with 1.5. Which is terrible. Honda loyalty is now gone. In 1991 they had a 5 year warranty bumper to bumper. Now they just make excuses but will gladly take your money. I remember the dealer calling me that they noticed my hub caps were chiped . They ordered new ones. Now they would call that road rash and not warranty it.

At least Honda is emerging out of the Hot Mess era. Their first iMMD hybrids are super reliable, and I'm sure the newer ones with cracked pistons will be resolved shortly

Question for noises on the front end of the car could it still be the same issue as said in 6:20? Car is only a little bit shaky in the front end going over bumps and noise over potholes

If your car is high on the list for cat theft and you are a DIY guy, get your emissions test done then remove it for a straight pipe then replace when test time comes around again. Doing it yearly means bolts won’t seize. Spray anti-seize spray to remove and anti-seize compound on bolts when reassembling. Buy new bolts or nuts if necessary. You will only have to buy those once if you remove them yearly. It all depends on vehicle and how high cat theft is in your area.

We had a 2007 that we ran to 175k miles or so. Then our daughter drove the car another 50k miles. Wish I had the 07’s engine in my ‘18 Accord Sport instead of the 1.5T

How did the automatic transmission in this generation hold up if properly maintained compared to the following generation?

my dad has a 05 accord ex and randomly throws the Srs light, and when the key is cycled, the light goes out sometimes. have you ever experienced this issue? I haven't had a chance to plug in to see if there are any codes in it.

Belt tensioner is common. It has arrows for alignment marks, so you know when it’s worn out. Also HVAC blend door & mode actuators

Do you recommend changing the in line transmission filter on these? Have this EXACT same 07 accord, same color. Replaced compliance bushing recently at 126k miles. Only time it left me stranded is when starter failed. Has new struts, sway bar links. Front bake piston did seize. The only really weird thing to happen is my back glass exploded randomly.

I've got a V6 2006 Accord that's at 172,000 miles. Got it at 58,000 10 years ago. Spent about $1400 the last 2 years on motor mounts, valve cover gasket, coolant hoses etc… Now the AC is out, master cylinder & brake issues, suspension issues, which altogether would cost about $4K to fix. If I do those repairs I'll skip an additional $2400 to replace the ABS unit (I live in dry climate). Engine & transmission are still good and it's the best car I've ever owned. I could pay $16,000 and up for a lower mileage 2013-2017 Accord, but I think it might not be worth it.

Just bought an 06 with 35,000 miles. Extremely lucky

I have 07 accord v6 ex. At about 150,000 miles I taught myself how to work on it. It got out of control and it’s the best shape it’s ever been in. 250,000 miles. Valve adjustment, OEM injectors, timing belt, new everything. I mean …..everything. To really press the point…only the ignition coils are original. I really do mean everything. Lol it’s kinda Fd up actually.

I had a 2014 accord sport with the C R A P earth dreams 4 cylinder and had to replace the starter at 23,000 miles ,sensors and oil problems etc ,sold the car at a great loss and now I have a Toyota and I’m never going back (and I have owned accords going back to 1988 )

can you do one on Civic as well? I own a 95 (5th gen) right now and I want a 9th gen (2012) SI model.

In an 07 2.4 the trans has a minor shift issue. I’m not sure exactly what it is. It feels like 1and second gear. It has about 138,xxx miles , what’s your guess on the issues?

You didn't mention the vtec spool valve that can also leak.

Look at those beautiful small wheels and big rubber sidewalls! 40-series tires and 18" wheels on current Civic is absolutely nonsense. Love my aftermarket LX-sized wheels/tires on my Sport Hatch MT6.

I have a 06 v6 and it has started cutting off while I’m driving… a starter/ alternator / battery has been replaced months ago… what could be causing the issue?

I love my 2004 Accord. One day, they stole my CC, replaced it with an california approved aftermarket during high peak COVID, died on me after 1.5y and shop couldn't approve the replacement since the aftermarket was meant to be temporary. So i decided to retire it since it won't pass smog. Now drive a 2013 Accord.

Please do a 9th gen 4 cyl!
