Thank you for this video! Shop told me $100 part and $200 in labor. Went home to investigate how hard it would be to do it ourselves (have one of my sons do it, really). Because of your video, I thought we could pull it off. Ordered the OEM part for $31.79 total. I suffer from vertigo, so instead of being plagued with dizziness for the following weeks, you [and I] walked my 18 year old son thru the repair. You had very good instructions...thank you for sharing your knowledge! This 2006 Accord was purchased last year for our boys' to use. I have to say getting the screws removed and put back in were the most difficult part of the entire process...he was able, with perseverance, to get that pesky 2nd screw replaced on the switch. My son is now saying he'd like to try more repairs himself, which is fantastic. I'm a 50-ish y.o. mom who enjoys fixing things myself when possible.

This is the only video I could find that actually showed how to remove the steering column covers. The 3rd screw for the lower cover was hidden and this video showed exactly where it was. Thank you Brian for showing us this.

I had same issues with accord 2003 . I ordered ignition switch from Honda cost me 145 Canadian dollars. . 15 minutes work and everything works perfectly. ❤ thank you

Thanks!!! I pulled this off! Having different screwdrivers makes this job doable I had a lil trouble accessing the screw under the switch I had a set of mini screwdrivers and that done the trick! Putting it back in a had a stubby magnetic screwdriver that held the screw in place so I could put it back in!

This was a very helpful video. The job itself is not complicated, but step-by-instruction helps it move along. It took me four hours from start to finish on my 2007 Accord, but setting up my work space took 90 minutes. Pulling the trim parts took some struggle, both in and out, mostly because the placement of the screws was difficult. I want to leave a couple suggestions to Mr. Eslick, 1st: describe more clearly the locations of the trim screws both for removing and refitting, define which are machine screws and which are sheetmetal screws and where each kind goes. They were especially difficult to access at finishing time, and I never found the hole or place for one machine screw, so I skipped that, but otherwise everything went as planned. 2nd: some tips for future users based on my project: test the new switch for full key movement before screwing in the screw that goes on the back of the switch. If you don’t there is at least one key position that will disallow turning the key. 3rd: After you’re sure the key operates the switch through all positions, then affix the wiring and try to start it. If everything works and it starts, then refit the trim pieces. And finally, thank you Mr. Eslick for your work on this video. It saved me about $1400 by avoiding taking my car into a shop.

Thanks Brian that was very helpful and something I can do, unlike a 1998 mercury I had the shop had to do it. They had to replace the whole steering column 500 bucks later. Peace!!!

@@emmitdyeweeh885 another video I watched said if you tap on where the switch is while trying to start it - it starts right up. You still need to replace the part but in the meantime tapping it works too.

Great video it helped teach me what to do 100%. Some under view camera angles would be the biggest improvement I can suggest. Had a hell of a time getting the underneath screw in and out of the ignition switch... the wiring harnesses and a metal bracket get in the way when you had to use a stubby screw driver like me... once you get the angle it ain't too bad. Back hurts from laying over the door threshold to see what to do. At any rate. Thank you so much for teaching me and enabling me to be more self sufficient!!!!

I had the buzzing noise when turning the ignition key...use this video to replace the ignition switch on my 2005 Honda Accord and it fixed my problem. I am not incredibly mechanically inclined and it truly only took me 20 minutes. Had a little problem pulling off the lower panel but got it freed without issue. Thanks!

It didn’t stall but wouldn’t go in drive and made a weird loud noise. I know I installed the switch correctly but can a bad job make a transmission go?

Thank you so much for this video! I have been told that I was crazy for over a month because everyone could start my car except for me. Even 2 mechanics thought that AI was crazy. With a little more searching I found your video (finding the right key words to find your video took time). I just purchased the part and after 30 minutes and a little assistance my car is starting up the way I know it should. Saved me a whole lot of money and time wasted trying to find someone to start my car.

@@MrRedHotChiliMan youre going to laugh because , it turned out to be a battery (valuecraft brand from my local autoparts AUTOZONE) it wasnt even old but i decided to replace it because for some reason i believed it wasnt strong enough , silly me even read reviews and finally decided to get rid of it, so i replaced it and sure enough the issue went away

Wow! Wow! My car a 2004 Honda Accord V6 would make a buzzing noise under the dash or I hear a faint click sound yet no crank many times I want to start the engine. About 2 mechanics adviced I change the starter . Just going through youtube and I saw your video, made a dash to an auto parts store did the replacement and Viola! The car starts up pronto, everytime.

This worked !! i have a 05 Honda Accord, I literally changed this thing myself in about 20mins. The only aggy part was that bottom screw on the switch that’s hard to get to. I am no mechanic but I just saved myself $200 (quoted:$250 part + labor)= 🥴

Awesome tutorial... I would only add : (1) the back screw on the ignition pack is a real bitch to get at - use a #1 Phillip's at least 4 inch length (2) when removing knee bolster - watch that the retainer clips don't fall off. If they do - not a big deal but make sure you find them (3) get a good under dash light - you're gonna need it. (4) you got this... don't pay Honda $300 for this job. Part is less than $50 and job takes less.than 30 mins.

@@mikexcopeland take yoga classes. In actual fact - I was half cut when I did this repair so I was very limber. And - I wear readers for vision so I was half way between vision lines. I still have an extra screw in my ash tray that I removed by mistake. Anyway - if you get frustrated - take a break. The video shows all. Do remove the lower bolster - life will be easier. The switch is a snap to replace. 4 months past repair and zero issues. Remember to breathe... then tequila to celebrate your $300 savings.

Great video! Subscribed. My brother has a 06 accord that occasionally the AC doesn’t work. I checked coolant, leaks if any and also recharged the AC. He said it’s okay now but could a bag ignition switch also be the problem?

What model is it? 2006-2007? Can you take the steering column cover out without taking the knee bolster? Maybe my one is jammed. Although I can see that I can access a screw just beside the steering column height adjuster with the knee bolster attached. I am not sure if that's the correct screw. Therefore I was wondering if your one is 2006-2007 and has a different screw position! My one is 2005 LX.

Got as far as removing the first screw but the big yellow connector is in my way for the second screw. Any way to disconnect that?

What are the symptoms of a bad/failing ignition switch? I took several short trips last night and wondered if that depleted the battery to not start the car. When this happened before I changed the 100/50 fuse under the hood, changed the starter & triple checked the terminals were tight on the battery. I replaced the starter maybe a month ago or 2, but went to the store tonight and on my way home it wouldn’t start. Dash Lights, interior lights work, radio works, but when I turn the key the radio flashes and nothing else happens. I don’t hear a clicking and no other noise?

I have the same exact thing happening to my car… did you find out what it was? Was it the Ignition switch, neutral safety switch or a bad relay(pgm 1 or 2 / starter)?? I just put a new starter in a few weeks ago and I have to turn the key several times till it cranks and starts.
