2003 Corvette CD Magazine stuck in 12 disc changer

The 12 disc changer in my 2003 Corvette wouldn't play and the magazine wouldn't eject. This is what I did to free up the magazine in order to eject it. Tapping the housing with the CD magazine door in the closed position is what did the trick.

Had this same problem on a 2000 Corvette. Tried this (against my better judgement I might add) and it worked !

Great! I'm glad it worked for you. Mine eventually failed again and needs to be reconditioned.

My C5 has this issue. I can fix it one way or another but in due time, a CD gets stuck again. The first fix was to just smack it as the video showed and that worked. The CD magazine came up like it should and was able to remove two stuck discs However, this procedure never worked again. The magazine always comes up now but there are always two discs on top of each other stuck in the player. I believe what is causing this is when I accidentally hit buttons to fast on the player in the dash. Seems the disks always gets stuck when this happens. So, I will put the unit in the car and see what happens. Plus, change the direction the unit sits in the compartment.

I have an update. I contacted a repair shop and they told me that after the repair were complete I would need to mount the CD changer horizontally as opposed to the factory vertical mounting. I decided to see if the changer would play if placed horizontally in the car without sending it out for repair. What a pleasant surprise. Just the act of placing the changer horizontally has resulted in the player functioning properly! I will leave it like this and see how it goes.

To: beninchesapeake ....I have a 2002 C5 Corvette with the 12 disc changer (Pioneer 25685332 - CDX-M2016)..and have had the same issue several times....I was using a dental pick to dislodge the CD's that had gotten jammed and after damaging a couple of them I took the screws out of the changer unit and happened to put the unit on the carpeted deck of the hatch area...the CD's were still stuck when I did this...then I went into the vehicle and I hit the CD player button and heard it attempting to eject one cd and I heard another begin to play...after a few seconds I ejected that one and the next began to play (as it should)...I learned if you mount the 12 disc player in the horizontal position instead of the factory (standing/vertical) position the problems with the cd's NOT playing or the changer not switching to the next cd when the previous one ends is essentially over...that tells me that there is a design flaw and that the changer should be mounted horizontally in all vehicles...so far, so good...

How did you end up mounting it horizontally? Or did you just place it to the side? I want to prevent it from sliding around back there.
@beninchesapeake
@beninchesapeake 3 года назад
@@justagirlandhervette-anadv6885 mine is just sitting there. I always keep a blanket with me and I have wrapped the blanket around the changer to keep it somewhat immobile. I have quit using mine until I get it permanently repaired. I think it would be fairly easy to fabricate a restraint using pipe straps and the stock mounts. The pipe strap comes in a roll and is easy to bend. Mine doesn't slide, but in an emergency stop it will probably slam into the back of the seat. Hopefully it doesn't go airborne.

I have an Infinity with the same problem. I was too lazy to unbolt the player under the seat so decided to use the thin metal strip that I rip out of a file hanger (the type you have in just about any office). It has a hook at the end so I just slide it in on the side, jiggle around and pops. The CD changer cassette comes comes out. A little silicone spray to help things moving better, put the CDs back in and now everything works perfectly again. Put it here in case anyone wants to try an alternative method.

My C5 twelve disc was stuck after I put new CD’s in it. I saw this video but instead of pulling those screws I just hit the changer on the right side and VOILA! That allowed it to eject. THANK YOU for the video. I never would have tried that.

Ben, I want to mount one of these in a C5 that didn't come with it. How/where do they mount?
@beninchesapeake
@beninchesapeake 2 года назад
Hi Lawrence, and thanks for watching. The factory mount is in the rear center storage compartment . I will caution you about GM mounting them vertically though. It was a big mistake and I believe it caused the high failure rate of the stock 12 disc changer. I am not completely sure of a proper horizontal mounting, mine is just sitting there on the carpet. There is a company called Doctor Don's in Texas that refurbishes the stock unit and recommends horizontal mounting. I would imagine they have a mounting solution for a more permanent mounting.

didn't work for me. had to disassemble the cd player - case and sides of inner structural part. pushed stuck disc out with a chopstick. greased all gears and sliding points with silicone spray. mounted horizontally. works like new again. I'd say the 18 yr old lithium grease on everything was kinda dried up. sprayed silicone spray on that stuff (carefully). works great now.

Thanks! I just bought a 1997 Corvette and put 2 CDs in the magazine and neither would play. And the magazine would not eject--the unit was cycling and making sounds, but it would not eject. I had one CDR and one audio CD loaded. So I hit the side of the unit a few times and opened and closed the door. The magazine then ejected! Not sure what was happening and the unit looks okay. I'm probably not going to use the remote magazine. I'll just load a CD in the radio/CD dash unit. However, the unit only plays factory CDs, not CDRs I burned on my computer. I even tried music CD-R discs that I burned and I got an error and they wouldn't play.

You are probably better off sticking with the dash unit. Mine eventually quit playing entirely. Now I just listen to the radio.

I have an 01 Corvette and what has worked best for me when the CD changer magazine would not eject is to cut a 2 inch by 8 inch strip from a stiff file folder and slide it in the small gap between the bottom of the magazine and changer and run it from one side to the other. The magazine has always released and ejected every time I've had to do that.

I'm glad my video helped you. Eventually it will happen again. The way GM mounted it vertically was a huge mistake and they are prone to failure. I had mine sitting horizontally and hit a big bump and the CD that was playing popped out and got stuck inside. I broke the CD getting it out, so I have just stopped using mine. I would recommend if you are going to continue using the changer, burn your CD's on blank discs so the originals don't get damaged. And of course there are companies who rebuild the changers.

@@beninchesapeake oh wow. My small button must be stuck because they akways come all the way out. I think that causes a probkem. Where is that small button? Maybe something inside the magazine is broken? Your welcome and thank you in advance.
@beninchesapeake
@beninchesapeake Год назад
@@markmarlow3867 if they come out by themselves, then you are correct and something is broken. The button is actually rectangular shaped and might not be recognized as a button. It is on the bottom of the magazine when the magazine is inserted into the changer. There is a corresponding "hump" or raised area inside the changer to depress the button when the magazine is inserted. This enables the trays to be pulled out by the internal mechanism of the changer. Go to EBAY AND SEARCH FOR ITEM # 154306978610. Picture number 6 shows the button.

Yeah. This turned out to be a temporary fix for mine also. It has now completely failed and after a lot of research I have found the only solution is to have the CD changer rebuilt. Then according to the repair shop it needs to be mounted in a horizontal position once the repair is complete.
@Stugots6

Thanks Ben. Are there any codes that need to be reset??
@beninchesapeake
@beninchesapeake 6 лет назад
Not for this one. From what I have read this is a problem with the mechanism inside the changer. Some people have said that unplugging the unit and then plugging it back in works, but at this point mine is just useless. Several guys have used an adapter so they can play their iPOD through the stock radio, but I have never owned an iPOD and really like my CDs.

Sounds tough. I can't say it will work but I would unplug the wires going to the changer and then start taking it apart. You might be able to look inside and see the stuck CD, and hopefully use something to free it up and pry it out. There is a company in Texas that rebuilds these units for around $275.00 plus shipping.
