ABOUT JAY LENO'S GARAGE ON CNBC
Hosted by legendary comedian and “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, the series explores our obsession with all things automotive. From classic cars to supercars and everything in-between, Jay is hitting the road to discover the most exciting, weird and wonderful vehicles ever made and meet the passionate people behind their wheels. Each one-hour themed episode features a mix of stunts, challenges, reviews, and celebrity interviews that showcases the colorful history of the automobile. Whether he’s exploring the story of an iconic brand, road-testing the newest super car, or investigating the latest automotive innovations, there is no wheel Jay won’t get behind to tell the story of our love affair with the car.
About Jay Leno: Acclaimed TV late night show host, admired stand-up comedian, best-selling children’s book author, much-in-demand corporate speaker, lovable TV and movie voice-over artist, pioneering car builder and mechanic, and philanthropist…it’s no wonder that Jay Leno is widely characterized as “the hardest working man in show business.”

Jay, I cannot thank you enough for this video. I am 50 years old and just two weeks ago bought my dream car, a Corvette! A 1998 C5 Z51 package with 129K miles. Paid $15K for it. It is in immaculate condition! I really appreciate all you had to say about the C5. I hope to somehow have the honor of meeting you some day and expressing my gratitude and just having the honor too of shaking your hand. I’m currently looking at possibly buying a C5. This video may have sealed the deal lol. Probably the best bang for buck out there for an all around performance car. I’ve owned many GM performance cars from the ‘70’s to date. Never bought a corvette due to children and needing those extra seats! It has been mostly Firebirds and Camaro’s thus far. I can tell that Jay loves his C5 as much as I love mine. I bought the last production year of the C5 in 2004 and the car has been flawless. When I first drove it after it was delivered to the dealer from the factory, in April 2004, the acceleration when passing reminded me of my 2001 Suzuki GSF-1200S, The Z51 package that I ordered as an option had the faster accelerating 3.17 rear end ratio, and it was amazing. You just "think" about passing a car in front of you and you're already around it. It was and is a terrific performance car. The fit and finish are superb, and the Machine Silver paint is still beautiful. Thank You Jay for your C5 video.

I worked as a tech at GM in the late 90s and I was part of the captive fleet program on the C5. I was in my late 20s, driving these home every night and most weekends. I even drove one of the first 1997 convertibles produced, people trying to pull me over so they could take a nice look at it. These were wonderful cars, a huge step up from the C4. I could buy one knowing I could tear it apart and rebuild it in my own garage, probably will some day. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Jay.

@wavnino1
@wavnino1 2 года назад
@@Studeb I'm sure I probably wont say anything different then what Jay has said about the C5. The C6 is a fun car to drive and its nimble. I drove a '08 nothing too spectacular. Going from the C5 to C6 it gets a bit tighter, Leg room and cargo space. The C6 is slightly smaller than its predecessor but without a doubt it delivers fantastic power for the price in modern day standards if were talking BHP, even a base C6. The C7 is pretty cool. I wasn't a fan at first but it grew on me. It's the most snug outta the 3. It definitely feels more compact if you're tall like me, the cockpit can feel pretty tight and I haven't drove it on long trips for that reason. When lane changing, looking over my shoulder There was also a blindspot with the Pillar in the C7 as well. But the different driving modes are very fun and enjoyable and on the track if thats your thing. There were times when I would just be on the freeway just fooling with the different modes. Track mode sounds awesome. The interior is a huge upgrade from the C6 (sport seats), The infotainment system is pretty nice the stash compartment is real cool to have. I feel that is the last good Vette if compared to the C8. The C8 design still hasn't grown on me and even seeing it up close and personal I don't think my mind will be changed. Even tho I personally like the C6 more, even with the undesirable interior (dash, the pointless one cup holder) The C5 just has a special charm to it that people gravitate towards. Rather than the C6 and C7, I've received more attention and engaged in more conversation (plenty of times where I didn't want to lol) all when driving the C5 which is mind boggling to me. Its quick and nimble if you've add some minor suspension to it (Z51). It's reliable, gas mileage is superb as you know, especially in this day and age with gas going up. Its actually pretty comfortable with the sport seats, leg room, head space, spacious; very good cargo room as well. There were times I use to actually go grocery shopping in that car. It feels light and all around a blast to drive. All in all, It's a beauty. Theres just something majestic about those pop-up lights and the curvaceous body. The C5 is a classic but you really can't go wrong with either of the 3. It all depends what you're looking for.

Doood never thought I could be so excited to hear that someone's camera crew is back. Not that I didn't like it when Jay did it him self lol. Glad they still have their jobs.

Had a 98 coupe, then a 2000 vert which I still own. Jay's has the following additions that I noticed: twin flow K&N intake, cat back exhaust, chrome exhaust plate, chrome license plate border, Lloyds mats. Hard to believe it has been over 20 years that these came out. The design is timeless to me. John Caffaro (designer) and Dave Hill (chief engineer) hit a homerun with the C5.

I bought my 2001 C5 nearly 2 years ago now, for $14,900, low miles, 2 owners, 6 speed, and beautifully maintained. I've put 10,000 miles on it now myself and only needed to change the oil. Hands down my favorite generation of Corvette (blame nostalgia goggles for that) but I couldn't be happier with the car! I don't think I'll ever want to part with it.

I’ve had my 99 C5 since I was 16 👀 I’m 21 now and I’ve put about 90k of my own on it. Love it and will always love it 🙏🏼 corvette > ...

Starting to see the 2000's cars as a golden era. They really hold up. They had perfected that ICE and 4 speed automatics. I'm thinking of getting a 2000s 'classic' myself.

@@wydopnthrtl Yep. A little more power and no unobtanium electronic brake control modules. I agree though on the golden era. 1989 (The Z32 Nissan 300Z) through this gen Corvette in 2004. All the technology you wanted, but no cylinder cut off or other tech you didn't.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. do NOT get a C5 auto. that trans is a nightmare.

Yeah if I had to have an automatic I'd go with the C6. They had a 6 speed that was quite durable. The 4 speed the C5 got was a relic going way back to the early 80s and they were coupled with mileage friendly rear gears. Only way I'd do a C5 auto is if I was building a drag strip missile and even then you would need to make the 4l60 stouter.

@@andrelind6220 it’s all in how you treat the car, you beat on it, of course it won’t last, treat it fine there’s no worries
