merc 2 strokes sound the best imo my dad has a 2002 merc 50hp 2 stroke oil injected 19 years old now still turns first key and looks brand new to this day
I'm really impressed with the quality of your website!! When we met (several weeks back at your storage unit, when I bought 2 of your "junkers" for parts), you "mentioned" that you were a RU-vidr, but you didn't tell me much more. As it turns out, I've been a subscriber of your site for a while! I thoroughly enjoy the quality, and the professionalism which you produce them!! Keep it up, and send out more "action" videos! The one where you threw the motor overboard was priceless!! We'll do business again, I'm sure. WCY
@@cubie3835 Yep, I didn't have a clue. That sometimes happens with us old guys. All I was looking for, was an older lower unit to replace my old busted one..., and I found an ad that "a guy" had posted. After the dealing was done and I was back home relaxing, I watched one of his latest videos..., and said to myself, "self..., that guy looks familiar". Then I started connecting the dots. My ADD still rears it's ugly head, even at 63yo!
What! Tohatsu is partnered with Mercury, evinrude, nissan for certain motors. They are very much an independent company. This old two stroke is all wisconsin Mercury with foreign parts. These old two stroke will run for ever as long as there is oil/gas
I just picked up a 2009 50 hp Merc 2 stroke from my mechanic , he gave it to me for free. Cosmetically it’s 90%. But everything else looks good. I’m fiddling with it now. Aparently the last owner never flushed it out and there’s sand , barnicles & a few small crab claws in the lower unit. I cleaned most out of out before I replace the seals
Eric, I love your vids. What has been your experience with Mercury outoards overall? I've always been more on an OMC/Yamaha guy myself. Thanks for all your hard work.
Really nice motor! Can you please tell me if this model Merc 2 strokes cylinder block is one piece with the cylinder head or is the cylinder head a separate piece?
Hey man I hope you see this. I’ve got the same motor, but can’t get it to fire. Cleaned the carb and replaced the plugs. Plugs just keep getting wet. Do you have any ideas? Compression is perfect in both cylinders.
is it normal to shake like that for motor in neutral?ihave 90hp 2stroke 2000mercury it shakes like yours i thought its because of carbs not synchronized properly
I came to this video looking to answer that exact question. I just bought a 2003 40hp Merc 2 stroke and it idles exactly like this one. Apparently in the manual it says not to adjust carbs with the intent to make it idle smooth. So I’ve just been making sure each cylinder is getting enough fuel and send it.
Hey there, I have a 2006 Merc 50hp 2 stroke and just replaced the impeller and thermostat, motor pees in idle and low rpms but when in gear and running the tell tail pressure drys up and just started to dribble, any ideas what’s happening ? Thanks in advance !!
That was from the previous owner trying to lift the motor on his own. He managed to sit the motor on one of the blades for a second which bent the prop. Its fixed now.
I’ve got a 50 hp similar to this. The motor will run fine usually the first time I take off in it. But now it’s just bogging down whenever I give it throttle. I cleaned carbs and everything and it was running fine for about 15 minutes then I banked and killed it and went out an hour later and the water pump started acting weird and then the motor started bogging. Every time it acts like this it’s always the same thing, the water pump starts acting weird and then the motor starts to bog. But once the motor bogs even if I get the water pump going it still runs like shit. Any ideas?
I have a 2000 40hp Merc. Seems to be struggling, mine is a long shaft on a 2000 tracker 175. Would the short shaft work ok ? Prices on a used 40, please.
Paul Atkinson it’s because your transom is too long for a short shaft. If you put a short shaft on it it would not go deep enough into the water to work correctly. Most 40hp motors should be long shaft anyways
@@deeznuts1789 I pretty much suspended that would be the case, had inquire & am satisfied with your response and I believe I will follow your advice. Thanks.
Yes you can put a short shaft motor on a long shaft transom boat. You will need a good bit of set back to make it work. I know plenty of people with short shaft motors on long shaft boats.
wonder how hard it would be to convert to tiller ? You ever run across one of those Mariner 40hp tiller with the tilt button on the handle, they made them up to about 2000 i think, that motor w a jackplate is the ticket
Hello, how are you? where in Florida are you? I have a mercury optax 115hp that has a heating problem that I can't figure out. do you do this job? can you give me your cell phone number?
