Well, seeing as how you just saved my entire ass on my 2.4l engine because I ALSO put the crank sensor in upside down/backwards you just earned a follow
I replaced this belt two years ago after it broke. It doesn't wipe out the engine. Just bent some valves. Pull the head, have it rebuilt, reinstall the head and a new belt. You do not need a new car.
Doesn't having to rebuilt the head qualify as a wipe out for most people? All of my cylinders tested good for compression afterwards so I'll take this random bit of luck.
@@DoItMyselfGarage i wouldn't consider that "wiped out" if you're doing the work yourself. The head really isn't that bad to pull off. Once you have the timing belt off the hard part is already done. If you're paying a shop to do the work, yeah that's probably not worth the cost. But if you're doing the work yourself it's worth it. It cost me around $350 to have the head rebuilt and resurfaced, plus the gaskets and head bolts and timing components. $500 to $600 total. That's not much more than some shops charge for brakes these days. But again, I didn't have to pay labor so.....
Dude, it doesn't men shot that out stopped at top dead center. All that means is you didn't damage the valves in CYLINDER ONE! Other cylinders had open valves and they're getting bent.
@@DoItMyselfGarage now you're right about that. That is most definitely an interference engine. My daughter has an 06 Eclipse with the same engine in it. Her timing belt broke at about 45mph and it bent six of the eight intake valves. Bent the shit out of them. They looked like the pistons had been playing whack-a-mole with the valves. My advice to you is get the delete kit for the balance shafts and get those fuckers out of there. They cause more problems than their worth. Her front shaft wore out which caused an oil pressure drop that caused the rear shaft to lock up and that's what broke the belt. We deleted them so that don't happen again and it has no more vibration than before. Those shafts are pointless. The delete kit is about 80 bucks on ebay and it takes about a day to install. It's worth it.
Yes, they were included in the kit and were replaced the first time around. My guess is that I might have slightly bent that "timing" plate during that first installation and it was rubbing on the belt. I was way more careful this time on how things aligned and it is running great so far.
@@DoItMyselfGarageI had to remove the crank bolt on my 2002 galant I just used a breaker bar to hold it and turned the key to spin it off it worked perfect
@@Vorah I rebuilt an entire transmission just from watching RU-vid videos. Hopefully you'll be successful. It is very satisfying when it's all running again.
