you took the whole car apart!! Too much work, there was no need. You can remove the pulley from under the car, a little tight, but you can. I've already done this service like this. What cost me the most was that the pulley was too tight. greetings from Portugal
Hi Rui Paulo, I would love to see that video. What year/make/model is your car? gas (petrol) or diesel? I've seen many videos on some years Jettas with much more space than in the golf.
@@wellingtonviking Hello, I don't have a video, I changed this pulley in 2017, I had no idea how to remove it, I took it apart until I got there. I remember that I bent a 10/11 spanner so stuck that the pulley was. But I just disassembled the wheel, and the plastic around the wheel (the wheel arch) to have access to the accessory belt and the pulley itself. I did all the work under the car. In fact the space between the pulley and the chassis of the car is very tight. I had to buy a torque wrench (10mm if I'm not mistaken), cut it to the measure of the available space, and weld it to a bar to serve as a lever. Now 70,000 km, and 5 years later I suspect it's already broken again, because it started making strange noises, a kind of knocking. It's a golf iv,1,9tdi,110hp asv engine that I bought new in July 2003. Regards rui santos
@@wellingtonviking Hello again. Recently, after starting to hear some strange noises ("thumps"), with more intensity in the morning, when I started the car, that is, in cold, and the belt tensioner oscillated a little, I decided to change the alternator pulley, although be suspicious because it doesn't have a lot of time to use it. This one I had changed in 2017, for the one that came from origin at 154000km, now with more 70000km I decided to change it to see if the noise went away and the tensioner was more stable. Unfortunately the tensioner continues to oscillate a little, but I don't even know if it is or not anyway...we'll see in the next few days, but it could also be this one that already has a few years, too bad it costs around 160€. But what I wanted to tell you is what I mentioned before, all this work can be done under the car easily. It took me 1 to 2 hours, no rush, it was necessary to remove the wheel, the plastic, the turbo tube, the guard, and we had access to the belt. In my case, I have a distance of 6cm available from the tip of the alternator shaft to the chassis of the car, which is enough to remove the pulley. (it's not the distance from the pulley mounted to the chassis, it's slightly smaller, but I didn't point it out and now I forget the measurement). regards
