His jump at the second last is as perfect as it comes, at a fence that can catch horses out.

This was Best Mate's greatest day imo. After a circuit you knew he would win. He just travelled and jumped so much better than the rest.

Smashing horse, I loved Best Mate. I was lucky enough to be at Cheltenham for all three of his Gold Cups. A decade on, it seems that he is remembered only for his connections rather than for his own ability, and that is just wrong.

Love this horse ,one man another super horse both great animals . They dont come around very often but stand out from the rest when you see them in the flesh . Intelligent, shiny and handsome individuals you know they are special race horses .

I always backed the northern horses and backed truckers tavern but best mate was a total different class and proved it for 3 years as the best chaser

Even after today it proves how great best mates achievements was the best horses can't even win it twice in a row never mind 3 times, kauto , denman couldn't achieve it and native river the defending champion finished 4th the first 2 were outsiders as well

Yes but only one horse has ever won 5 GOLD CUPS plus a GRAND NATIONAL.
