Super helpful video, thanks. I'm struggling to try to diagnose and fix my 02 Jetta on my own. I see I need to get at least a vacuum pump before I can really play along. I don't have a lift either. But I'm hopeful to get the tools I need and try to follow along again tomorrow. This is my only transportation so I can't mess it up.

before you replace a vacuum pump for low vacuum, try wiggling the nipple to see if vacuum improves. If it does "peen" down the metal retaining the nipple. this will usually improve sealing around the nipple improving the vacuum supply.

U just can beat a good old spring adjusted waste gated turbo Simple and adjustable with no computers Especially when most people don't have access to this software on this VWs where they want you to take it to the dealerships or stealer ships

Adding a spring helps it stay closed. Till it gets so bad the computer cant control boost.

Was a fun repair. Customer followed up. He regained his fuel economy as well as his power. Back to 45 Miles per gallon!

Do you know what's funny I bought a 1.9 TDI mk1 seat leon about 3 years ago and ever since I thought it was ment to be slow. So I oneday decided to clean out my air intake manifold and to my surprise. There was a ton of carbon and my VNT was stuck near the closed position and after putting it all back together apparently new car. Like wow, what have I been missing out on all these years and the money I have wasted on fuel is going to make me sick if I think about it to much. I think more engine checks should be done after an mot as a way to make sure your motor is at its best efficiency.

I've heard the term MOT a bunch of times because I watched "wheeler dealers", and I know what it means, but what does the acronym stand for?

@@CoolAirVw it means motor observation test. Which is ridiculous, I think manual testing needs to be done on vehicles

I've had a power loss for the last year, not thinking much of is as I barely drive it but the other night as I was coming home the engine hiccuped and then stalled out. Pulled over tried to start but just cranked over. Lots of smoke what seemed like coming possibly from turbo because it was under the hood. Waited a little bit tried starting again and it ran for 30 second and died. Again lots of smoke. Timing belt has 70k miles on it. Car has 160k. 03 alh. No engine light. Thought it was fuel related but seems to be getting and sucking fuel into IP the IP is very loud like there is possibly air in it but I may be jumping around too much thinking it could be turbo related because of the previous lack of power.

No question in your paragraph. Sounds like fuel restriction. Could be other stuff.

@@CoolAirVw thanks. Yeah just mostly wondering where to start. Fuel filter seems to be full. Hooked up vacuum to see if there was any restrictions and flows pretty easily. Didn't get a chance to crack injection lines yet to see if there was any air but wasn't sure if I should be possibly looking elsewhere. Clogged intake maybe? Fuel shut off? Anti shutter valve? Failing injection pump?

I used a hand vacuum pump to test the movement of my actuator. I don't get nearly the distance of movement that you are getting from the new one on this video. this system makes boost at low vacuum is that correct ? thank you for the video.

No. Alh makes high boost with high vacuum on actuator.

Thank you very much for posting this. I can not get a graph like yours in VCDS though! I just installed a new actuator, and the car feels okay, but I am just trying to confirm with VCDS. When I go WOT in 2nd gear, I can not see if the actual boost will come down and match the requested boost because I am getting to red line (have to get off throttle) before I can get a longer reading like yours looks. This is a 02 Jetta ALH, and I have Pixel Shift set to 15. I have some screen shots of what I've got. .. any thoughts?

@@CoolAirVw it comes down, but by the time it is about to level I am at red line and have to get off gas.. EDIT: I only get about one graticule before I get to nearly 4000 RPM and get off the gas pedal.

@@steveburke3 overboosting is either someone messed up vac routing, boost soleoid stuck giving actuator vacuum all the time or the actuator stuck or the turbo vanes themself stuck. If your stuff isn't stuck then try adjusting the actuator.

Can you spray a "rust off" product inside the stuck actuator, leave it a few days and recheck if it works? Please!

You can do what you want. Here's the thing, I have to guarantee to my customer its going to be fixed and last. If I spray a product in there and it damages the rubber diaphragm and it then leaks I have a comeback under warranty. There are times that replacement is in order.

Hi, I have Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI ALH 2005. I found leak in vacuum system..hissing noise while applying brake. It got fixed after replacing the O ring. Oil leak stopped on the vacuum pump. Before O ring replacement, I got P3130 and P3105 errors. Now, the vacuum lines are working and N239 seems to close the anti shudder valve in the EGR. I have replaced N75 and I could hear buzzing noise when engine is switched off. I used turbo cleaner sprayed in shots at the air intake. Turbo was clogged earlier and engine got switched when I applied 1 st gear. Now car runs with low boost after turbo cleaning without removal. I find the turbo actuator is not moving. Should I remove the turbo and examine the actuator? Can decarbonizing using hydrogen(liquid & gas) help?

if the actuator is not moving make sure its got vacuum to it then you would have to assume its stuck. If it s stuck pull the turbo for inspection and possible cleaning.

@@CoolAirVw Thank you so much. I will try and revert. I also observed blowby. The cap dances when its loosened. Can clogged intercooler cause this? I have already cleaned the intake manifold and EGR. Intercooler has not been cleaned yet. The car has clocked 165000 kms.

I have my tdi 1998 golf 4 Afn engine turbo Issue i have after i change ecu I put maf sensor connector And i Press gas pedal tpm goes just at midle and a lot smoke white comes and i feel shakes car when rpm goes at midle but no end after that i unplug connector of maf And car goes rpm Max so I think its my maf problem or could be another thing at timing belt adjust maybe But also can be turbo ?? Can u tell my what can be bcz im just driver but i have passion to learn about Repairing cars

Hi I've got a Skoda Octavia MK1 1.9 TDI 2003 the turbo seems to work accept it seems to plateau and will not give anymore power if I switch engine off and on while moving it restores the power any idea thanks
