I just installed new shocks on my 2004 F-150 following your instructions and it took me about half an hour to finish. I feel like I need to send this guy a check for all the videos he's made. He has saved me a lot of money because of his videos. Thank you!
You sir are a gold mine, especially these days with everybody over charging and people holding on to their vehicles. You have saved us millions I’m sure. Do you have a donation page? You deserve to be compensated for these videos. You save us thousands and if everyone benefiting from these videos would donate a fraction of those savings I think it would be a win win for everyone. I
I’m getting rear vibration and hop sometimes at lower speeds. Looking to do this on my 14 F150. Did you use these exact shocks? I want bilsteens but when I look up on Amazon it says they don’t fit my truck
After I did my fronts with the help of your video it made such an improvement to my truck I just had to do the rears also. Glad to see that the rears are simpler (not that the fronts were all that bad).
Installed new shocks on my 2006 f150. This video made the job easy. Never would have thought I would be doing my own small mechanic jobs but you have made it much less intimidating. Thanks !
I just replaced my shocks with the bilstein 5100 series. It was exactly like you showed and even easier because you displayed the process. Thank you so much!!! Someone owes you a mouth hug! Lol thanks man!
Marc Rigau just added these on my truck in the rear. I feel there is no wheel hop and makes my truck ride like a “Cadillac” like some people say. My F-150 has 45k miles so my old shocks are not bad. Just not as smooth as these.
Great video. Installed these on my 07 F150 FX4 tonight. I noticed a huge difference right away over some speed bumps in my neighborhood. I compressed my old factory shocks and one of them took two minutes to fully extend from complete compression.
Super clear and straight-forward. Thank you sir. I know how to replace shocks, but I wanted to be sure before diving into it with my new truck. There's always some new crap to worry about with all of the over-engineering put into current vehicles.
Great video, this guy knows his stuff. I started the task, but the two 18mm sockets that I had for my wrench, one was not deep enough and the bolt wouldn't allow a solid fit, and the other 18mm socket was deep deep and I couldn't get it on the nut on top of the shock because of the frame. So I went to Home Depot and bought an 18 mm wrench for $5. Then I had trouble loosening the nuts because I do not have any power tools. I sprayed Blaster (penetrating catalyst for rust and frozen parts), then hit it with a hammer, then it finally came loose. All told, I finished in an hour and a half (I'm slow). The instructions were spot on. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. One thing I learned that really, really saved me was knee pads. Holy cow, I changed my strut and shock assembly the day before and my poor knees were hurting so bad from being on the concrete floor. I highly recommend knee pads. Oh, I also swear by the thin black gloves sold at Walmart for $2. The save your hands and fingers. And I use brake cleaner on the areas to clean them up as I go. I also recommend this for proper fitting. A must if you don't want to ruin your threads.
Just replaced my 8,000 mile old, rears on my '16 Lariat. Took maybe 30 min, didn't need the pry bar, just "muscled" them. I did a compression / recovery test on the 4x4 OEMs... OMG... Incredibly slow, especially the driver side! NO WONDER, they're so "bouncy bouncy". Quick test drive, deliberately hitting holes / ruts, MUCH firmer & STABLE! Thanks for the video!
I have them installed on my '08 Expedition. Love them ! 2 trips to CO Off-roading in WY Towed an RV trailer to FL Trip to CA and a daily commute in Chicago (which equals to off-roading in WY)
Just did the rears this AM on my 2016 F150, it took longer for me to remove the wheel liners than it did to install these shocks. Great video! Thanks for the torque specs!
@@jsol888 I only had 16,000 miles when I changed them so the originals weren't that bad on daily driving. There was a huge improvement towing though. The porpoising is gone. Last week I towed our travel trailer with 30 gallons of freshwater and 10 gallons this week and it was a vast improvement! We just need to get manufacturers to start putting in baffles like they do with fuel tanks to stop the sloshing around.
@@BringTheBeaver 3 years later and the shocks are still great. What made the biggest improvement in towing was adding Sumo Springs. I think it did make it a bit more harsh but when its loaded it smooths out fast.
@@jadd6810 Just curious, did you change out the eye bushing's on these? The Bilstein 5100's bushing that comes stock, leave a lot of space between the mount and the bushing.
Thank you for videos i have a 06 f150 Harley its in great condition plan on keeping it . But it has 110000 so its gonna start needing stuff maybe i can do it myself i know your videos give me more confidence.
Did this today. Mine did not seem to be as compressed with the green band. Was unable to get a prybar under it the way the video shows. Had to muscle it on by pushing up on the shock with my hand. Took awhile but got it on. That was the left one. When I did the right one there seemed to be a little more room around the shock. I installed the bottom first so I could grab the top of the shock and push up on it with more leverage into the top well. That one only took 10 minutes. Did improve the ride.
It was a lil bit of a challenge for me to remove the shocks from my truck because someone installed a coilover shock or helper spring or whatever for heavy hauling or towing, which I had to lift the truck up to remove a lot of the stored energy from the spring.
I appreciate the video and the tricks how to remove and add the new shocks. As simple as the procedure appears, knowing exactly what to do improves efficiency/ time and effectiveness/ no errors. Just bought my first truck ever 4 weeks ago. I already added a tons of upgrade to a brand new truck. I have taken a Porsche 911 engine apart and put back before... Yet, I appreciate your videos. I also install oil catch can based on reviewing your video + talking to dealer. All done in 1 shot without errors. BTW, still own 4 other sports cars
Just installed new set of Bilsteins on my 2012 F150 Pretty easy install, need to keep the strap on there until in place or a lil difficult to compress under the truck. Will see how they feel tomorrow Thanks as always
Have a 12 and have learned so much from your videos thank you! Do you have a video doing the 5100s on the front? I see your video of another type of front shocks for the truck but not sure if install differs? Thank you
Those packaging bands on those Bilstein shocks are a big help. I purchased some icon shocks and they did not come with those bands. The icon shocks aren't exactly easy to compress. I found it much easier to mount the bottom bolt and then compressed from top to bottom with one hand and use the other hand to push the top bolt in.
I just bought a pair of skyjack black x I hope they work good on my Ford nice video it's helps me everytime I have a question or when I'm fixing my truck thanks a lot 💪🏽💯🔥👌
Outstanding and informative video!! We just bought a 30’ travel trailer and noticed no sway, but quite a bit of bounce when we picked it up, ordered these and hoping for better results. Thank you!
I installed these exact same shocks last year on my 2011 platinum after reading many reviews. I was stumped on which direction to install them in! Boot up or boot down? After much reading and finally a call to bilstien, I was told you should be able to read the sticker on the shock without standing on your head! That's the right way! Love 'em. They greatly improved the ride quality on my truck. Now I want to install front ones to match. Plan on making a video for the front?
M Gomez I think I found them on either auto anything.com, rock auto or Jegs. I'm pretty sure auto anything was where I got them from. I'd check all of them and see who has the better price.
How much money is this guy pulling away from dealers showing us how to take care of these things ourselves? Thanks dude. Just did mine. I'd previously taken the rear leaf spring blocks out of my 2013 XLT F150, so I had a little more of a struggle to compress the shocks, but ain't nothin' but a thang. The video showed me exactly what I had to do. Thanks again.
I got a quote for new shocks on my F150 and after watching this video I wonder what the mechanic is charging me for. Thanks! I'll be doing this myself.
Great video. No jacking up of truck, no removing tire. One Question, arent you supposed to compress the shocks 3 times to activate the gases? I saw that on another video and was wondering about it.
