@@TheSaintFrenzywell when you have liberal teachers raising children to believe that America is evil and to hate their country, and that the flag is racist, is it really any surprise where we’re at as a nation? A huge swath of people who vote democrat are not patriotic, they’d rather see the whole thing crumble
Seeing this all these years later, this was definitely blown way out of proportion. Wasn’t a bad speech, he was just excited and feeding off of the energy of his crowd. The media exaggerated this for sure!
I mean seeing what all the last 3 presidential candidates got away with in speeches, it was way overboard. I don't know if Dean would've been a good candidate but this wasn't a fair shot.
@@awesomeferret it's not though. The media incessantly attacked him over this. A howl essentially. This was back when people didn't blabber on about Fake News like they do now.
@@tonymontecino9761 No he wasn't doing great before this it wasn't like this helped him it was more like the final nail in the coffin (from what I hear)
If this actually had any negative effect on his chances at the presidency, it is telling just how focused Americans are on very superficial and meaningless thing at the expense of actual issues.
@@RogueAstro85 Bernie is an evil piece of shit who stopped preaching against millionaires the second he became one...despite NEVER having a real job. What you call "progressive" is the single most REGRESSIVE and evil idealogy the planet has ever known. Facts matter...which is why you people hate them.
@@mikeparker7631 I guess he never had a real job if you don't count union organizing, teaching, and carpentry as "real jobs" And what are you on about with millionaires? Someone pointed out that if his tax proposals were passed he'd have to pay higher taxes as a millionaire and he said "Yes I will."
@@mikeparker7631 and I'd like you to show me one fact that proves keeping the majority of a country's wealth concentrated in a small percentage of people is beneficial for the citizens as a whole.
Julio Barbosa I was a pretty young when this happened, so I don't remember it very well. I thought I remembered him doing pretty well at one point though. Even if he wasn't the highest polling candidate, I still don't understand why it ruined his campaign.
Actually what makes it even more absurd is that nobody there thought it sounded like this at all. Their microphones do an amazing job of isolating the person speaking, so you can hardly hear the audience, but audio captured in the audience makes you realize just how deafeningly loud the crowd was. His shout blended in and didn't seem odd at all until playing back the recording.
well jacob the american is fickle to the letter and the media plays on that too , I don't think this was bad at all but the american public and the media thought other wise YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ROTFLMAO : )).
Yea we totally didn't just have the current president at that time on trial for getting a bj in the oval office. There was always major scandals just no social media to let everyone know about it 24/7
@@TheVinc123 its a joke relax its about how memes back then were so much less meme worthy have u taken memeology sir theres 2 categories, memes before 2012 and memes after 2012. This would fall in the before 2012 lesser funny memes.
@@Birch55 huh? I think they are talking about scandals not memes. It's like how people say "remember back in the good ole days when everything was better?" even though it objectively wasn't. Now if they are referencing a meme I'm not sure what the concept is. Are you saying their statement is ironic? if so how do you know because there are also people who make that statement unironically too. And no offense but saying "have you studied memeology?" is kinda of funny phrasing
You wanna get elected? Well, you can "grab'em by the pussy", pay a porn-star to keep quiet about your affair, hire fraudsters and tax dodgers to do the dirty work for you. That's all fine. But don't you DARE have a slightly awkward public display of excitement. Oh wait, Trump is "guilty" of that too. No, US aren't driven by the whims of the public, cheap charlatanism, and mainstream media manipulation. Not at all.
This wasn't even all that bad, looking back on it. Dude was on top of the world, caught up in the moment. : / Whatever. Makes a good sound bite, anyway.
At the time, it seemed unhinged to most people (right and left), and was continuously made fun of. But you’re right. Watching it now for the first time in over a decade, it doesn’t seem that bad at all. I guess the craziness of recent times makes this seem utterly quaint and restrained by comparison. More innocent times.
I think part of the reason Dean's scream was received so poorly was that he had just come in 3rd in an Iowa Caucus that as late as the previous week most experts expected him to win.
Same. Presidents nowadays care more about the power that comes with being president than the opportunity to create change. I wish we had someone running for 2024 who was this passionate about their policies.
@@imkool51391I prefer Howard dean’s speech to anything Donald trump has said. He literally speaks in sound bites, no substance. Also that’s not the type of spirit raising we’d want for America
Compare this “scandal” to the ACTUAL scandals of presidential nominees of today. Blown way out of proportion. If this happened today, it would become a meme that would’ve actually helped him rather than hinder him
With that particular in-the-moment happy scream, he sounded like an excited Kermit The Frog. This is not at all the kind of thing I would negatively judge any politician for. It actually hits home that he is, or at least was, openly, just like anyone else, and he was excited in that moment. I don't say this sarcastically: He probably would be the type of person to be the life of a party. You have to appreciate his genuine nature, or at least, it appears genuine.
I agree. He had a lot of momentum until then. I never understood why that moment ruined his chances. Never understood what was so bad about it and why the media portrayed him as some kind of unstable lunatic for it. The guy just got carried away lol.
Man of Low Moral Fiber This speech was after he already finished 3rd in Iowa Primary. 04' Dems wanted to combat Pres Bush on defense/toughness etc.,so they went with a war vet like Kerry. Dean might have won primary (who knows) but I think he wud have lost and lost worse than Kerry in General Election. Kerry got many more moderates than Dean would have imo. Still a classic speech moment here though :)
Hold up, I’m a young idiot and I’ve never heard of this man but I love this energy🤣 I’m reading that he got backlash of some sort for this and I’d love to know why
Because the media manipulates our reality into what they want us to think and do. This man showed emotion and they don't want that. Your whole generation walks around with a blank look on their face and a speak in a monotone voice. This is by design. Unplug
It ruined his campaign and political career. He was way up in the polls, but then the media played this clip on repeat for a few days and it tanked him. I guess at the time, Americans weren’t used to seeing politicians act this goofy? Who could really say.
Re-watching this cured my political depression. In todays politics, the enthusiasm and ability to get through all those states without a flub is highkey motivational.
Imagine saying you like grabbing women by the pussy, or that you could go out on the street and shoot someone and wouldn't lose any followers, or now revealing your tax info in a very shady way....oh wait.
You're right! That's actually an important observation because this would have been memes and if we've learned anything from this campaign it's that memes can make dreams come true. There's an alternate universe worth visiting.
No. Boasting that he was going to jump from 3rd all the way up to frontrunner in the Democratic primary was what lost it for him. He wasn't even close to winning the nomination.
I thought the same thing ... Dying laughing right now... I see a thought bubble over Harkin's head ... " whoa ... What the hell was that ? We are f***ed !"
Adil Khadri That's Long Time Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa (the state they r in here). He seems 2 be enjoying it but has no choice here since Dean was his guy. Speech prob seemed pretty normal and exciting 4 people there live prob. I'm sure he was dying of embarrassment when he saw it on TV.....500 times :)
Poor guy :( The criticism and cost of that scream on his election was absolutely ridiculous. He would've done great things for the country. His yell just shows his enthusiasm and excitement he has for his country.
I had saw in the News Hour a few years ago that is was mentioned in passing that this scream ruined his run. I never saw it, just heard about it in the radio after it first happened, and I just thought about looking it up to get a closer look. It wasn't that terrible.
I always thought his excitement was adorable. I wasn't a Dean supporter, but seriously, I just don't get why this "ended" his political career. I thought it was great, and hilarious. He never came off as "crazy", just very enthusiastic about his improbable political success and his country. He seemed to know it was hilarious.
