Six year old RU-vid video solved my problem. 2005 Toyota Camry, JBL no Nav. You don't want to plug into the plug that went into the original radio, physically below it are two plugs. Unplug the white and blue one and plug into there to bypass the Amplifier. And here I was for hours thinking I somehow got the wrong harness. Plugged it in and everything worked perfectly first try! Huge thanks!
So after I install the aftermarket head unit, and after I bypass the factory amplifier, am I able to install an aftermarket amp and sub to go with the head unit? Or is there more wiring and by passing to do in order to install another amp and sub
Finally, a very comprehensive installation guide with cable identification for different stock and aftermarket radio combinations. Great job, I feel like I can finally tackle this, knowing what I'm doing. Thanks!
YES! YES! YES! your great I found you after digging and figuring it out but your video is a lifesaver for the next guy! Praise the Lord for your video!
Great video and thanks for sharing. My 05 Camry with the JBL stereo has two harnesses on the back of it. One with a lot of wires and the other with what looks to be 4 or 5 wires..
Ok, kids. Hear you go. You need Metra's 99-8231 bracket. JBL Premium system needs Metra's 70-8113 harness. You'll need to run blue/white to switched power to power the JBL amp. Run everything else per instructions. The bracket seems a bit flimsy but firms up nicely once it's bolted up. I ran a bead of super glue along the tab/slot of each side piece after assembly
@@Autotechno17Aftermarket amp you don't connect the harness at all. It runs straight from the head unit, amp, aftermarket wiring, to aftermarket speakers
Hii were can i find the dask kit the one that goes around the sterio i bought a touch screen radio but y need the dask that goes with the radio so it will fit perfectly
I’m having trouble finding a compatible harness adapter that’ll connect the new radio harness to the OEM harness. I have. 2006 Camry LE and keep running into a generic adapter that doesn’t fit. Please help
Hi there i install the same aftermarket stereo with same harness kit but there is a disturbance in sound and i am unable plug in for amp because i used all four ports for that harness can you help me??
I understand there are two antenna wires and only can be use in after market stereo one. Which wire goes to after market antenna? What happen to other small antenna wire?
I believe the small one is just the am radio station and the new one just needs the good fm because the other stations should probubly be intergrated into it. and it should just need the good big antenna wire at least thats whata i think
This video has helped but im stuck. The wirjng harness that came with the radio has different colored wires than the wiring harness i bought to go for the car.
I have Camry XV30 + radio Kenwood. There are two harnesses - 1st is from radio Kenwood, 2nd is “Metra 70-8113”. Also you need to buy frame “Metra 99-8231”. Basically, to make Kenwood radio work with JBL amplifier, you must connect one wire from “Metra 70-8113” (color: blue with white stripe), with one wire from Kenwood (color: blue - he is named “P.Control”). This connection will activate JBL amplifier. Of course other wires from both harnesses must be connected together too, like power (+12V red; +12V yellow; GROUND black), sound (cinches from “Metra 70-8113” to radio - grey to FR, white to FL, purple to RR, green to RL) and antenna. It works in my Camry.
@@adamwest7953 so are you saying this radio trim isnt the one recommended? I looked up that part number, it comes with the trim piece a pocket and some side pieces, do they all have to go on, pocket and all?
Tried to install an aftermarket stereo and speakers in my son's 2002 Camry that came with a JBL system from the factory. Damn, I've never seen anything like it. Complicated to say the least. We got the Metra 70-8113 from Autozone but still couldn't get the damn stereo to turn on. Plus, the new stereo only has 1 set of RCA outputs so we don't know which RCA cable to connect. the purple/grey or green/white. Can you point us in the right direction? Thanks. This by far has been the best video I've seen so far to try to install an aftermarket stereo in this type of vehicle. I think we're giving up on the speakers by the way.
@@nicholascasatelli6949 hi can u please tell me the name of the wire harness I have to look for I have a 2003 Toyota camary v6 xle and I need that same piece of harness to connect to my jbl wire harness on the car
I was able to wire a 2005 camry with a Metra 70-8113 Harness. However I am getting an intense humming/buzz but audio works, would you recommend grounding the RCA cables to the metal radio body?
I’m doing the same thing with my 05 Camry. What did you do exactly and what there any issues. Crutch field recommends a different harness then the one I used.
kevinshinobi when using the JBL aftermarket harness it supplies you with ground for the radio and a ground for the JBL amp which I also grounded with the radio harness ground
Some Toyota radios had 2 antenna wires/plugs. You only can use one. Is that going to effect radio reception? What did you do with the second antenna wire? I haven't changed the Stereo unit yet in my wife's '02 Camry but wanted to research everything before purchasing what I need and such. Hers does not appear to have the JBL system. Just the radio, CD and cassette. If you order a Stereo unit from Sonic Electronix, they provide the adapters and stereo kit. Thanks for your help.
RiceRacerH8R yes some Toyota radios will have two antenna connections and only one will be used for the aftermarket radio that you decide to install. If it's not equipped with the JBL premium system that's even better. It makes the install easier to wire up to the aftermarket harness. Crutchfield will also supply you with the parts, that are necessary to install the radio, when you purchase a radio from them. They are also very knowledgeable with most car audio questions.
Hey man, I know this video was posted like seven years ago, but you were doing awesome when you were explaining stuff, but then you started doing stuff without showing how to do it. People like me trying to learn need to know how to wire the microphone up through the dash and all that fun stuff and it would be nice to know, how to get the correct deck and dash plate to fit the car. I’ve never installed a car stereo before, but I’m trying to do this by myself and I have no help so adding stuff like that into the video would help somebody like me. That’s all I’m trying to get at
Max Hertz, after I did everything you did I still did not get sound out of the speakers. :/ I used a different head unit. But I connected the wire harness to the same connection. I connected then FM/AM plug but there was another smaller blue plug I didn't have a spot for. Is that for the speaker's amp? Not sure what the problem is. Please help.
Max Hertz my factory radio was working. I hooked up as you did. I now have no sound. You should have shown wire connections. I had 2 black wires on harness .one said amp ground
Joe B i was sold. The wrong kit. You need the kit which is for the jbl amp turn on. This guy video ,he is an idiot. Purchase the toyota jbl amp turn on kit .
Yes absolutely anytime you are doing Anything electrical in a vehicle make sure you unhook your neutral/black wire from the battery also fyi, don't undo the climate control wire harness because that's where your airbag sensors are located.
The harness you use is Metra 708113 The bypass harness I found is 708116 What harness do I need to buy if I don’t want the bypass the amp, but I do not have RCA inputs for the speakers?
Angel Morales if you disconnect the JBL amp depending on how many speakers you have in the vehicle you may require an aftermarket amplifier. If the vehicle doesn't have a factory subwoofer you can get away with just running speaker wire from the new radio to the speaker harness from the JBL amplifier
urHIGHNESS don’t recall the model of the radio. Keep in mind the radio manufactures come out with new models every year. Parts can be purchased at Amazon or your local Best Buy store
TechLiberator if you look on the front panel of your radio it will say "JBL" on it assuming you have the premium sound system. Sometimes it's labeled on the door panel over the speaker location
Try googling for the wiring schematic for your vehicle, you can just use the stereo wiring that comes with the new deck and just splice it into the old harness as long as you have a good map of what is what, that is how I did my 99 astro van and now I have a 2005 camry I am getting ready to do soon here. The wiring harness isn't necessarily required it just keeps you from having to splice wires. And even with the harness you may need to do some wire splicing, and I guess if you have whatever special JBL setup it looks like you need to keep it in play as much as you have to. Usually you only need to find the 12v power (and ground though I might be wrong might just be the hot wire), ignition wire or start wire (tells the radio to turn on with the ignition), and then which ever speakers are needed off the deck pre-amp typically front L/R and rear L/R (looks like in this video you need some of the RCA's as well, typically you only need those if you have an external amp from the stereo so you may not even have them depending on what yours came with stock from factory). The wiring schematic is key but these videos are good to tell you how to get the radio out without breaking your dash.
This is BS I copied everything you did and there is no sound at all my old radio worked perfectly I wired red yellow and black plugged in the purple green gray and white cables it turns on but there is no sound whatsoever I’m so mad right now
