In-depth review of the 2004 Yamaha XV 1700 Roadstar this specific bike is the midnight star edition and is mostly stock other than the cobra drag pipes. Best 0-60 time: approx 5.5-6 seconds (5.14 according to manufacturer)
That’s a slick looking bike. I actually just learned about the striker recently. Didn’t even know it existed! Looks almost similar in design to the road star warrior. It looks a lot lighter than this one too and I’ll bet power is pretty close too. I think the Stryker has upgraded cylinder heads.
@@Aaaaa69999 sure but you’re comparing apples to oranges. This bike is a cruiser it’s not made to be a hot rod. The hot rod version of this bike would be the warrior which is just as fast if not faster than the raider.
@@MotorheadLars Nice rip, your XV 1700 Midnight Star is a black beauty, good find, I thought fat boy when I saw it. I like this era of Yamaha you can tell they were really coming for the Harley Davidson market. That V twin has a deep snarl and grunt. Midnight Black and chrome like my Royal Star, style points. This You Tuber has a real nice Royal Star vid, listen to the rip at the end. Cheers! gummy 2006 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe Showcase (w/ Vance & Hines slip ons)
I have had my 2005 Midnight Silverado for 10 years now. It has 46k miles and still has plenty of get up and go. I did have to have the transmission rebuild at 32k miles @ $1k so not terribly expensive. The saddle bags have much more room than the Harleys I rode. I just love the way the bike looks and I get A LOT of compliments on it. Although it has a bit more leg room than the Harleys that I used to ride, it's not as comfortable as my old Ultra Classic was on long distance. The Harleys also have a much smoother ride motor wise imo. The road star has very good handling but when the front tire gets a little warn, due to the rake, it is sensitive to ware.
Agree my Harley is definitely more comfy for long trips. Especially with all the fairings and windscreen. Wouldn’t have expected the trans to go at 32! That’s uncommon for these tanks from what I’ve read but I suppose anything can happen haha. I got a ton of compliments on my Roadstar too everyone said nice Harley! Then I had to break it to them it’s a Yamaha 😂.
@@frankcastle1183they had transmission problems up until 2003. SUPPOSEDLY they fixed it in the newer models from 2004 on up. The problem was with the gears in the transmission not being machined correctly so they didn't lie up correctly and could have cadostrofic failures. And yes they were recalled. I know a lot of people say that these things are super reliable but I've had my share or problems with mine and then some and now it's down again. I have also read a lot online with others that seem to have a lot of problems as well but then I don't think amy bike is immune. I did ride Harleys back in the earlier 2000s and never have any problems. My Road Star is a 2005 and now I'm told by the Yamaha dealer that they won't work on one that old.
Yep haha I ended up adjusting my bars so they don’t hit the tank anymore. Made it a little easier to turn also. Once you get used to the weight and balance of this bike it’s surprisingly easy to control and maneuver.
I believe it! Bike has such good torque there’s no need for the high rpm’s. It’s probably why the redline is 4750. Also pretty sure there’s a built in rev limiter to prevent any damage. It’s a tank.
@@jonallen7191 These are 1670 = 101.9 cu. in. Yamaha themselves called them 102 cubic inch bikes. The 1600 ('99-'03) is/was a 98 cu. in. bike which is 1602cc.
@@deepinderbaidwan5145 well I lucked out and was able to adjust mine to my liking but there’s a lot of aftermarket options out there! I’d start with eBay probably.
