2005 Chevy Trailblazer Broken Sunroof Repair

My 2005 Chevy Trailblazer (GMC Envoy) had the sunroof stop working when it was partially open. In this video I show how to replace the guts as which ended up not working, so I then replaced the entire assembly. Join me to see how I did it as well as my thoughts on how I would do it again.

Pro tip.. when removing the electric motor from the frame DO NOT separate the motor from the cable gear housing, remove the three bolts lower the two down being careful not to separate the two, have a small bolt and nut handy to place between the two as too hold them together and removing the assembly as one should prevent you from having timing issues, good luck.

There was a repair kit mentioned, that I didn't see a link for. Did I miss it? Thanks for this video, if I can find parts, hopefully I can fix our 2008 Trailblazer one.

This is the repair kit I'd get in the future which seems to have really good reviews. But then again for the price I got the replacement assembly I might just look on marketplace for someone parting a car out. www.sunroofdoctor.com/Trailblazer-2002-2008_c_66.html

Did the overhead center console where the sunroof button is up front snap out or did it have screws

A little of both 😂 I broke mine due to ignorance and then found I believe screws under it

Replacing the whole assembly is definitely the way to go. Can probably find a used one for a good price. Just make sure that you see it working before you buy it. Side note, the sunroof continued to work flawlessly until my girlfriend rolled the trailblazer just a couple of days ago. She then proceeded to open the sun roof and get out of the car through it. It's now totalled 😢 but thankfully she is okay

When it came to taking out the center piece, how would you recommend doing it without breaking it

Yeah! Turns out three screws underneath the plastic covering for the lightbulbs! So the most front part is just clips and under the lights were the screws. I was super stuck but your video helped out a lot

@@drewlittich9425 I took a small flathead screwdriver and hammer to knock in the frame in front of the tab just a tad to get the tiny flathead under it and pry it back up enough to get a larger flathead in and pull it up the rest of the way
