Hey man thank you so much for your video I saved $188.00 dollars and labor on replacing the power steering pump and seals. Your videos makes it very easy it took me 20 minutes at the most to remove and replace ones again thank you..

Great video!!!! The only issue that I ran into was getting the pulley off. That was by far the hardest part. After some WD-40 and a torch to heat it up a bit, I was finally able to get it broken loose.

Great video, very clear and I appreciated the step-by-step. I do have one comment: the tension-release "bolt" to loosen the serpentine is made of very soft metal. Although a 3/4" will basically fit, you run the risk of stripping it (like I did). I would recommend that you invest in a 19mm so that you save yourself my aggravation -- and to be double safe, get the hex-headed one, not the 16-spoke, "star" design; Craftsman makes one and they stock them at Sears. But aside from that, wonderful video; it easily saved me $500 over taking it to the dealer.

Great video but if you empty the reservoir first is more like to avoid the fluid all over the van. You don't need to remove the pulley a deep socket will work fine for both bolts. Make sure to replace the O rings. Very simple job about half hour

I ran into some difficulty that others may appreciate learning about.I tried to change my serpentine belt in early March in Connecticut along with replacing my tensioner (the piston was shot). The outside temp was 10 degrees. After struggling to get the old belt off, the new tensioners swapped out without a hitch. However, when I tried to put the new belt on, I could barely get the new tensioner to move. I purchased the tensioner tool and tried to get the tensioner piston to compress. Instead of compressing the piston, the tool head sheared off the tool. I replaced the tool and it happened again. The tool is cheap, but it was certainly strong enough to work under normal conditions.I thought it might have been too cold and that the piston fluid was nearly frozen, so I waited until it warmed up a bit. That took two weeks.With 50 degree weather the piston compressed without any trouble and the 15 minute job that turned into a 2 week adventure was finally done. Lesson learned.

On taking the hose off I always put a old bolt in it then clamp it off. Prevents it getting knocked around and spilling and anything falling in.

I get to do the repair this weekend. 198K miles. First time was under warranty 100K ago. QUESTION: Is this a good time to swap out the serpentine belt also? I didn't look too closely at the front of the engine to see clearances. But looks like it would be generally easy if you have a reason to already be in there. I believe our belt was changed out around 130K for a major maintenance...but I'm not going to dig through the docs to check on accuracy.. EDIT to answer my question: Yes, this is a good time to replace the serpentine belt too. Also, my pump was going out but I started with the $200 Honda high pressure line since that was obviously the major source of my leak. Pump kept whining after I had it together, so I went ahead and replaced it to. But, the air cleaner breather boot, split, so that was a third trip to Honda...a different one that had it on hand.

i probably would have installed the o rings wet with a little power steering fluid to prevent any chance of tearing them.

Always drain the fluid first before working on the pump. Use a turkey baster to suck it out of the reservoir and get rid of it. Then replace it with new when finished replacing the pump.

Thank you for the video!! I am replacing my power steering pump this weekend and cannot find the pulley at a single part store anywhere near me. One part store told me that as long as nothing is wrong with the old one I can put it back on...??

What was the trick for loosening the pulley? I'm facing the same task with my '05 and I think getting that pulley off will probably take most of the time.

Great video, doesn't seem too difficult as long as you have the right tools. Will have to look for one of those swiveling ratchets. Do you have to bleed or flush the power steering once the pump is replaced or can you just fill up with fluid once the pump is replaced? Thanks again!

I had the same problem on my pilot. FLUSH THE SYSTEM FIRST>Used a turkey baster and sucked all of the nasty dirty power steering fluid out of the reservoir. turn the car on for 5 seconds suck out more. turn the car on 5 seconds, suck out more. Then put in new HONDA premium Power Steering fluid. fill to upper level. turn car on for 5 seconds. put in more. Turn car on put in more. NO NOISE!!! NO PROBLEM... SAVED 600 Bucks mechanic wanted to charge me to replace power steering pump.

how do you get the pulley off and on as there is nothing to counter force when turning? YOu did not show on the video.

Hi Scott, I really like your video, straightforward and easy to understand. I had a couple of questions. I want to replace my power steering reservoir along with doing a fluid flush to see if it solves the stiff steering at low speeds that I'm encountering with my 2005 Odyssey. Once I've done that, if the problem doesn't go away I'm going to replace the pump as well. Is there a second flush required with the pump replacement since the system is open to contaminants when the lines for the pump are exposed? Also, I needed to replace the VTECH Oil Pressure Switch. I'm not entirely sure where that's located. I've kind of got an idea from forums and pictures in the Service Manual, but if its possible, could you show a short video on where the VTECH Oil Pressure Switch is located? Thanks.

Thanks for the video. Curious that you did not show either the loosening or tightening of the pulley bolt, which I thought would be the most challenging part of this. Why skip that part? You said we would have to figure that out.

yes good video. What about lubing the O rings first? You mentioned you weren't sure where the leak was and maybe it was the O ring. I sure would of tried replacing that $0.53 part first. lol

you didnt show how easy it was to take that nut off that pully ... mine stock i heated it and the dam thing still wont come off..
