@617michel I would love to drive one of those! I have never even been in a 400. These naturally aspirated V8’s are the last of the best. I am sure they will keep going and the values will stay strong even with 300k+ miles! Enjoy your beauty
I brought an 03 es300 from an auction for $1400. Been doing work on getting in back in line but MAN the performance and build of it is amazing as well!
Anything is reliable if you do major service like this. I couldn't imagine having to change timing chains on my 350,000 mile trucks. The reason toyota and lexus have great reliability is because their owners are responsible car owners that do maintenance.
My '98 LS400 has been mine since almost new and, after 25 yrs., all the original window actuators work. In fact, everything works. They are electrically much less complex than the 430s and more reliable. It has been a joy to own and drive. I looked at the new LS500 out of curiosity. Walked away shaking my head and happily returned to my 400.
I here you! I have noticed the quality difference over the generations as well going down. More synthetic leather ext. I was just talking with my dad and looking at a +$75k 500 and we were not impressed. So many cars are continuing to get more stiff and sporty as well! Keep on hauling in that 400!
@@mechanicalintentions5431 It may outlast me! In all these years, it has had only one significant repair (a cam phaser). Enjoy your 430 and remember to keep things dry under the hood and in the trunk. My best to you and your dad.
You are now my new favorite person. Goodness, this generation of LS600, LS430 and SC430…. 😍 One of the joys of living inArizona is that I see SC430s quite frequently.
I really wish there were more around the Midwest! I would imagine the southwest and Florida have the majority of them. Unfortunately I am moving soon and have passed the 430 on to a new owner. I really loved it, but like puppies, you can’t keep them all!
I used colourlock. A company from Europe that i found researching. They have a great products and i bought the steering wheel kit. It was enough to do 2 wheels as well as a few other areas that needed touchup. Easy to use if you can follow directions. For the wood I sanded down the wheel with 800-2000 grit paper. Then I used regular polyurethane to fill in and smooth out the wheel. But very small light applications! That I very important. Then a 3000 grit wet sand and polish. After that you can have a very nice looking restored steering wheel. Just be very slow and don’t spill anything!! Could be a mess with the dye or polyurethane.
I changed a 24 year old timing belt on my 99 GS 400 with 103,115 miles on it on July 2023, and used the same kit that you showed also purchased on Amazon. The belt was original, you could still read Toyota on it, and the cam and crank marks were still visible. The belt was lightly worn and could have been driven on for a lot longer.
The newer timing belts are EPDM type rubber installed in cars in early 2000 and last way longer than the old school belts and don't crack however shed rubber like tires. My Porsche 928s Timing belt was replaced 20 years ago and still looks like new.
Crazy they say do every 90k. I guess it is a way to cover their butts and get you in for service. The weaker point I saw was that leaking water pump, so I’m glad I got to it. I would love a 90’s Porsche. Definitely n my list some day and I love that 928! The lights are so cool!
I’m glad I had a friend to help on this one. My first time doing a timing belt and it was a little bit of a puzzle! Now it is time to buff and paint correct. Cheers!
I just paid for mine to be replaced and they decided to put in a new radiator. Mine was 125000 miles. The water pump was beginning to wind. I also replace the two pulleys and tensioner which is recommended. 2001 LS 430. Lux package also.
The Holy Grail of Lexus luxury cars here! All of them are beautifully spec'd! Yep, that belt has likely only been changed once. Toyota/Lexus-specific belts are insanely durable in their ply and ability to withstand high-tension for miles and miles. You can yell by the visible teeth marks on the back of the belt that its been there for years, but it was nowhere near ready fo pop. But piece of mind is totally worth it. This car has another 300K miles in it easily.
Wish you lived on my street! Lol. Been wanting a CT for a while. Always wanted an SC with those wheels too. Condition of your belt was great to see, I'm due for one on my 02. Great collection of cars in your garage. 97 LS 400 427k 98 LS 400 172k 02 LS 430 179k (due at 180k) 04 LS 430 147K
Dang brother! LS stacked! I’m about to sell off my CT. I picked up a Venza for a little more room. I do love that car, but I am getting tired of getting in and out of the CT. I drive a lot more than I used too now as well.
Hey, question - how long have you had that blue F-sport CT200h? I had one until May of this year, it was a 2016, and since those aren't exactly common, I'm always curious if it might have been the one I had!
My father was a mechanic but in his later years he was sickly and unable to replace his timing belt nor could he afford someone else to perform the service. He ran his Tundra with the 4.7 V8 to around 200k miles, perhaps more before he passed away. He never had the belt done and he bought it new off the lot. The riming belt in my 06 RX330 was done at 128k miles. I bought the car with 138k miles last year and now have 180k miles. We're trying to decide whether or not to have the belt done this winter or wait another year. It gets COLD here and we have been hard on the car over the last year. The on ramp is stupid short and often times requires a lot of throttle to merge safely. Some times I have to yield and come to a complete stop due to construction and when an opening large enough appears, I have to floor it.
After my research and first hand experience, as long as parts are Toyota/Aisin they last much longer than the typical 90k recommended service. I wouldn’t stress too much.
When I bought My 04 Lexus Es330,it only has 68,000 Mls,& I was worried about fact.that age had took a toll on Orig..belt & had ASE mechanic, pull t.belt cover & check belt ,17.5 yrs Old & No Cracks,& Mech. found a garage door opener in dash,so it saw very little outside storage & ,Now has 77.000 Mls.& No Issues I've Heard the Japanese Belts are Are Superior to Ours & friend didn't chge.his 2004 LS430 t.Belt till 215,000 & his mechanic.was Amased it had no cracks or evident Wear.& Have also heard when u do chge.belts, the Aissen t.belt Complete kit is the Best
My man you got the best models of all lexus luxury cars, and that ls600h is juat very special car, with the engine from lexus isf with electric goodness, is just a beast, i saw acceleration vidoes of lexus la600h, man that thing really pulls like a train all the way to the top speed. You are missing one more lexus, which is lexus gs450h, with 340hp is just another sleeper from lexus. Enough said bro, enjoy your lexues, i am owner of 2022 lexus rx450h
I have a 1998 LS 400 with 140000 on it and I have been thinking about selling it but I think i am going to keep it. Anybody knows where I can get Xenon headlights whole assembly for it?
It was pretty easy. That used some lacquer after sanding it all down. The most important part is putting on very thin layers and not getting any on the wheel or leather. I put on about 3-4 veeeeery thin coats. Then with the leather I bought a leather repair kit to clean, sand down, dye and repair.
Wheres the LC500? Haha beautiful cars i got a 06 Flint Mica LS and its my till death do us part car. No other car comes close with the quality and attention to detail. Awesome video.
Ow man, I would loooove to even drive a LC500. Once I come up with an extra $100k it will be had! That flint mica looks very similar to my dads 08’ LS. Great color.
Got a 2004 Es330 w/ Only 78,000 mls.i'm 2nd Owner & Prv.owner had a Covered garage, found thr older type Garage opener in Dash & cannot find a Record w/ car fax of Belt Being Chgd.& No Sqeaking on Timing belt.Only thing it could use right away are Valve Color Gaskets ,& Trying to find the Ceramic ones ,Cause looks to be a 3 hr.job, tks to Rear ones & dont want to have to chge.them again Anytime soon.Prob.wil do when t.belt replacenent is done.
Wrong. Nobody put a belt on that I been a mechanic foe Toyota and Lexus for 28 years. You can see that the belt has a crack in it when traversitthe right cam. From my experience this indicates somewhere between 224-280k miles. So no it has never been changed.
I know! It is insane…. Getting the windows tinted tomorrow. Also just got the suspension calibrated since it was a little off and the system checked out without a leak and sits perfect now.
