Anyone who has never driven an Impreza will not understand...those who have driven/owned/own one will fully understand...as mentioned lots of faster cars out there but none with the same driving experience...great video.

Had a conversation at the weekend about a friends new 530d m-sport producing more bhp than my STI…….. think I’ll let the car do the talking when I take him out in it 🤷‍♂️

i have a completely stock 2005 STI. here in texas the USDM left hand drive version. its been in texas its whole life and garaged so it has 0 rust and is still in pristine condition. i love my STI like its my 2nd child. these old school STIs are destined to be classic collectables.

Jessy, absolutely agree. I can’t think of one car in the past 10 years that as half the character of an old school Impreza STI

Il take your advice and fill up always from a quarter of a tank. I had a knocking noise from the near side rear like yourself. I had to replace the drop link and bush. I also let it warm up for 5 mins and 1 minute to cool down, or 2 mins after a long 1-4 hr drive. Does feel notchy when setting off too, but it's ok after a while. I think it's just the way they are. Enjoying your videos. Your unique and informative, with a good sense of humour and honest about everything and most importantly, have no large ego. Looking forward to more videos to come.

It's quite a pleasure to the eyes and ears this car is, it certainly wins the heart of all enthusiasts. Also, one of many reasons why I like this channel is the way the videos are presented unlike other channels where annoying selfie-stick recording or weird gay music are the norms.

They all run like that when cold. 😀 its always a bit jerky and clumsy feeling to start with. I normally let mine warm up to the bottom of the temp gauge before setting off. You can also hear the pistons flapping round a bit when its cold as they are forged on the 2.0l, so they take a bit to warm up to the right size 😂

The spoiler has a drain on front and back both side when I wash it I make sure the holes are clear and the water flows through aim the hose at them
@FastandFun
@FastandFun 3 года назад
Has it? I’ll check mine. Assume mine are blocked then!
@TheMoonigans
@TheMoonigans 3 года назад
If water isn’t draining then you might find that one of the previous owners has used mastic to seal it all the way around. This is a bodge to stop water getting into the boot through the screws when the washer perishes. I had the same issue on mine. Simple job. Remove the spoiler and clear all the crap that is there. Sort the rust out which will be near the back of the spoiler. I used a combination of neoprene to create new washers and then double sided which I ran around the bottom of the spoiler to stick it to the boot. Remember to keep the drain holes clear so the water runs from the boot lid and down the back.

Hey just found your video. I also have an 05 STI in Canada. Same thing over here for values, they are only going up. Such a great car. Just a comment for ya though. I'm a bit confused when you talk about the UK version vs the JDM version in terms of sound. You've said in both videos you got the UK version because of the sound. I totally agree the sound is amazing, I love mine also. But all the STI's regardless of region (JDM, UK, USDM) all have boxer motors in them. So they sound the same. Even the 2.5 and 2.0 motors, they still sound roughly same in terms of the rumble. Is there something I'm missing?
@FastandFun
@FastandFun 3 года назад
Hi Daniel, the JDM Twin scroll sounds very different. You don’t get that growly burble that you get with UK cars because of the equal length manifold. Hope that helps 👍🏻
@3PDL4LIF
@3PDL4LIF 3 года назад
@@FastandFun I didn't realize the JDM Version 8 cars came with a twin scroll and equal length headers. I thought they were all unequal length from the factory regardless of region. I know lots of people put equal length headers on to get more power. But I thought it was all aftermarket stuff. Never oem. I learned something new today. Thanks :)

There is foam that goes between the spoiler and bootlid and on the edges there can be paint to paint Chafing at the edges and causes rust .I make a video of how I fixed this issue but not uploaded it .as for why the water pools there are 2 drain gaps in the foam between the bootlid and spoiler on the window side of the spoiler that become clogged with dirt .jet wash them or use a long brittle brush and then there are 2 gaps on the other side to let the water escape .clearing these gaps will allow the water to escape .

I love Imprezas but it sounds like a Forester STi would have been exactly right for you - 18" wheels, 2.5 litre engine that's torquey off boost as well as on, 6-speed gearbox with longer ratios in 4th, 5th and 6th so it cruises at 70 at just over 2500rpm, and fuel consumption is definitely better because of it, 300 miles from the 60 litre tank is quite easy. Same platform as the Newage Imprezas as well, so drives really well and parts are largely the same. And much rarer than an Impreza.
@FastandFun

I’m not a fan of the 2.5 engine and I’ve always had a soft spot for the scooby Impreza’s since buying a new one back in ‘98!
@PacoJones-SG9
@PacoJones-SG9 8 месяцев назад
@@FastandFun The 2.5 is an excellent engine but you'd want a built one to avoid the dreaded ringland issues. If you get the chance to review a Forester STi, go for it, I'll watch it!

Great video, I am looking to buy one in a month or so, any suggestions on what price would be your realistic view on the prices vary so much on+ 2005 WRX STI Blobeye. Ideally looking at 100k mileage at most.
@FastandFun
@FastandFun 2 года назад
I wouldn’t worry too much about mileage, having a robust service history and condition is more important. Mines on 97k and still feels very strong. I’d always suggest in buying the best you can afford (normally much cheaper on the long run!). If you can afford, I’d go widetrack, as think that they’ll be more sort after in years to come. Most blobeye STI’s are now starting around £15k, I wouldn’t be tempted to buy the odd one or two below that value is there’s likely a reason that they’re cheaper! I’d also stick with unmodified unless you’re confident of what has been done to the car. A friend of mine has recently bought a widetrack blob - he paid £17k with just under 90k miles. That seems to be the middle of the market. If you want super low (eg 50k mikes) then you’ll be looking at over £20k nowadays. Good luck and hope you find the right car.

@FastandFun
@FastandFun 2 года назад
Sorry about that - always difficult to get the balance between enough info and too much info (ppl get bored!) The Type UK cars have unequal length headers which give the car a very distinctive flat-4 rumble whereas the JDM imports have equal length headers so lose that noise. However, I think it’s widely accepted that the JDM engines are the stronger units, up slightly on power, rev higher, etc… Hope that helps 👍🏻

Ok got it now, thought that this is what you tried to say. But some small correction, jdm bugeye has also unequal pipes also and some other goodies like nitrited crank, higher rpm limit, 280hp and some other niggles.

@FastandFun
@FastandFun 2 года назад
The Impreza WRX is 225bhp in standard form (265bhp with the PPP) and you’re probably going to need somewhere between £5k-£7k to get a good one. They aren’t cheap cars to run either and return very poor mpg too, but they do deliver a very unique and iconic experience 👍🏻

@@FastandFun OK so out off all your cars what's the most reliable engine the clio? @@Hondafn I’ve been there and done that (I have 4 kids but they’re all adults)! Personally if you want performance with practicality of 3 children, on a budget of £3k I’d go something German. A BMW touring either petrol or diesel (depending on what economy you want) would get me vote. Get an M-Sport version and think it should serve you well. You do not need to let it idle for 5 minutes after getting into the power. Try 1 minute if you actually know whats happening. All you are doing is waiting for the turbo to stop spinning so fast and have like 30 seconds of fresh oil. You clearly don’t even know how it works. Waiting 5 minutes for what? To heat soak the engine for no reason while it doesn’t move…
@FastandFun
@FastandFun 2 года назад
Running the car through the final few miles out of boost should always be done on any turbo engined car and if it’s been excessive (like on track) you need to do the same for other reasons (aka brakes). If that’s not possible, you should at least leave the car to idle to enable the cooling of the turbo.
