2005 Toyota RAV4 with over 200,000 miles

A last look at my sister's 2005 Toyota RAV4 before she sold it in March 2016 (it had a buyer less than 24 hours after posting it on Craigslist). Despite having almost 204,000 miles (328000 km) on it, it's still in very good condition and runs great.

I own a 2005 RAV4 L. The year is 2021, it has 119,000 miles. Still looks mint. I can still take road trips with this 16 year old car and not worry about getting stranded.

I just bought a used 03 Rav with 153000. Dealer trade-in and they got stuck putting in a new head gasket and power steering pump! It's a stick so the ECM shouldn't be an issue like I read it can be on this model. Any other issues with this year that you've had or know of? Please and thanks.

It's the best car I have ever owned. My friends all tell me my car was a unicorn in its past life. Haha This car is zippy and has some balls too. It's really fun to drive and is a very smooth ride. Our 2005 Nissan Primera had 203,000 miles when we sold it a few weeks ago. Still looked and ran great, although the Engine Check and ABS lights were on!! The other high mileage vehicle we've owned was a 2000 Ford Focus with 190,000 miles. Currently our cars are quite low mileage, with my 1994 Peugeot 405 1.9 turbo diesel at 124,000 and our 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7 V6 at 121,000. Anything under 150,000 miles is low in my opinion, and even at 200k a car still has lots of life left with regular maintenance.

I have the exact car just 2wd. 168,000 miles on mine. Had it almost a year, first car for me. No issues and I'm lovin it! Only mod I did for it was an aftermarket radio receiver Kenwood DDX-395 for those guys who want to look it up. Plus in a few months from now once I have the money saved up I'm gonna put a new stereo system in it. Been talkin to some guys at the local car stereo shop down the road and here's what they've suggested me for my budget, Subwoofer: JL Audio ACP112LG-TW1 MicroSub that's powered, Front Speakers: Kenwood XR-1700P, Rear Kenwood KFC-X174. Can't wait to put them suckers in!!! :D

I read some where the problem is the electronics and computer stuff on newer cars. In the old days we didn't have all that stuff. I remember that old 1955 Dodge my friend had, it had well over 100 thousand miles. We never had a bit of trouble with that car.

i love my rav4. 2002, 165k and running great. My only minor complaints are that the window motors are very weak (right one dies out years ago), the sunroof is plastic and scratches easily, and there is quite a bit of engine noise and vibration in the car making for a somewhat bumpy ride.

Great video, that car looks pristine! I've seen those get well over 350,000 miles before ever having any major issues. Toyota's are built like tanks. I drive a 1998 Ford Ranger with 200,000 miles, no major repairs needed. Also a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, 103,000 miles, no issues either. Take care of what you have and it will take care of you.

Toyota's are fairly dependable. I drive a 2008 Hiace and it has done almost 300 thousand miles. The alternator died about 10,000 miles ago but that was the only fault until it just couple of days ago developed some injector problem, probably a seal has failed. Still being driven pretty much daily.

Yes, the RAV4 are reliable. However, I have a 2001 RAV4 and the steering rack started leaking power steering fluid at $175k miles. In contrast, my 1993 Volvo 940 still has the original steering rack, at 180k miles, and no problems. Of course, I did flush out the old power steering fluid on my 1993 while I got the 2001 used and the prior owner likely never flushed out the old power steering fluid...

+Choo Kwang Zhee wtf is this Singapore bs??????
@DarrenPersad
@DarrenPersad 8 лет назад
That's pretty accurate; laws surrounding car ownership, maintenance and taxes throughout Singapore can make it rather difficult to own vehicles. Factor in the low value of Singapore's currency and the fairly low average income, and it makes it pretty difficult to own and maintain one car, yet alone several. Things are very different here in the states where car ownership, taxes, MSRPs and such are all fairly low compared to other markets globally. Enough so that someone my age often has no issues owning multiple cars. Take myself for an example; I own three cars. The cars themselves, while not cheap, weren't so out of reach that I couldn't afford them. I work on cars for a hobby, so upkeep isn't an issue, and insuring and inspecting a vehicle yearly isn't too horrible price wise, given how lenient American inspections are compared to British MOTs, for example.

And I thought my dad's car from 2002 with 200000 km (124000 miles) was a lot. I see these RAV4s around all the time, they're extremely popular, but this is the first time I see one without a diesel engine (here in Italy there are pretty much no large cars with gas engines).
@DarrenPersad
@DarrenPersad 8 лет назад
This is considered large in Italy? I'm vaguely aware of how narrow many older streets are throughout much of Italy, but here in the US, this is considered quite a compact little SUV.
@TheComputerGuy96
@TheComputerGuy96 8 лет назад
Not that large, but not small either. Very few people here have those huge vans and trucks most Americans have.
@DarrenPersad
@DarrenPersad 8 лет назад
+TheComputerGuy⁹⁶ Understandable, given the size and geographical differences between the United States and much of Italy. I for one do own a 2010 Toyota Tacoma SR5 TRD Off-Road with a full bed, lifted ride and access can - the Tacoma is, essentially the equivalent of the Hilux, only we only get petrol models here in the states, no diesels - and I consider it a small truck, but by comparison, I'm sure it's considered and unnecessarily monstrous beast in some parts of Europe given that it's longer and much wider than most long wheelbase executive saloons, like the A8L or XJ-L. Would you say that hot hatches are the most commonplace choice for personal transport in Italy, or ultra-compacts like the Fiat 500 or your equivalent of the Toyota/Scion iQ?
@TheComputerGuy96
@TheComputerGuy96 8 лет назад
The most popular cars in my area are hatchbacks like the Fiat Punto, Peugeot 206/207/208, Citroën C3, Renault Clio, Opel Corsa, Toyota Yaris, or even Mazda2 like the one vwestlife used to have, but there are also a lot of sedans and station wagons like the VW Passat and Audi A4 and SUVs like this Toyota RAV4, BMW X5 and Land Rovers. Anything bigger is much less common. We have also quite a few very ultra-compact cars like the Fiat 500, Toyota IQ and Smart, but they're not the most common ones either.
