Bro this video was absolutely fantastic. I'm an extremely amateur mechanic but I'm trying my best to learn; saves me money fixing stuff myself. Had an airbag code complaining about a short in the squib circuit. Did a little research, horn and cruise control weren't working either, and most answers pointed to replacing the clock spring. Your guide was perfect for my 2003 Sequoia. Pulled it all apart, threw it back together, everything seems to be working fine. I learned something new today and feel accomplished. Thanks so much.

I removed the clock spring and tested the ground of the horn to the steering shaft. The horn worked at that spot of the bearing against the shaft, so I thought the clock spring had to be bad. I ordered an aftermarket spring and installed it. Glad I did not spend the money on a Toyota one. The same horn issue happened. I then took all back off + the signals and wiper controls. I got a lot of the rust off the bearing with steel wool, vacuumed it, cleaned the bearing with electronic parts spray, let dry and then repacked the bearings with dielectric grease. The horn now works great. I would have fixed it a long time ago if I knew it was so easy. If you are testing the bearing, temporarily put the steering wheel on turn to test in several places to make sure the bearing ground is not truly the issue before replacing the spring. Thanks for the info and video!

Was your horn working intermittently and airbag light on? I ordered an aftermarket spring as well twice.. and I am still having the same issue I was before. Im going try what you did and see if that works. Thanks

@@jman635 my airbag light was not on and the horn only worked when turning the wheel and pressing at differing points. It won’t hurt to clean the bearing to ensure it’s not a grounding issue going forward in any case. I hope it helps.

@@2SixString When you say bearing, is it the part at 5:55? The part with the spline shaft and steering wheel meet? I just took a wire brush and brushed all the rust off the splines, still no luck :( I might just try a new oem clockspring, maybe I am just getting some faulty aftermarket ones back to back. I do have a history of bad luck haha

@@jman635 search youtube for “2002 Toyota Sequoia clock spring bad, NOT!” and go to around 2:33. This is what I cleaned for my issue.

@@2SixString Life saver! Just did it last night and it worked like a charm. Horn was fullying working but airbag light was still on. Checked codes with bluedriver but no codes showed up. Had to pull out my laptop and techstream to be able to clear those codes. Now after maybe 5 year I finally have no lights on the dash haha. Thanks for the hidden gem!

If I pull a clock spring from a parts vehicle (rather than buying new OEM), do I need to put something in place where that orange pin is on your replacement clock spring before I remove it? Thanks for the video, gonna be super helpful for doing the job.

This is my first time viewing this channel, and I must say it looks pretty good. I'll be back for more videos, I'm sure. All the best from London.
