Phenomenal video. Extremely useful, and allows for many scenerio samples of audio, and what to expect with this set-up, thank you! You clearly thought your video through, something that doesn't seem to happen too often on youtube lol I'm definetly getting this exhaust for my GLI!
Sounds so good bro, subtle yet hits all the right notes when you get on it. Thanks for going above and beyond for the detailed video, everyone really appreciates it. Also super clean Gli
I need to do a good sound clip of mine this sounds amazing but I have a custom 3” tig welded pie cut catless down pipe into a 3” v banded custom stainless exhaust as well with 1 vibrant resonator
I bought one used, spent so much time restoring it (major rust issues). Installed it last night, it's awesome. Anyways your video (and some others) helped me decide which exhaust to go with. Thanks for this.
@@brendanyurga5452 I don't but if the CAT is efficient enough I don't think it would throw a CEL. Pretty sure if you're doing a stage 1/2 they are coded to eliminate the CEL for that. Search vwvortex forum if you haven't yet. A lot of good info there. Realistically given how old my CAT was it would throw a CEL for it without the spacer. All CAT's get less efficient given carbon build up. There's ways to clean em I think? The reason I went with CAT in the first place wasn't for emissions, more so I prefer the sedated tone with it. Otherwise its silly loud IMO.
DjBann it is “mine” not “mines” . Mines are deadly and in wartorn regions, where wars ended decades ago, still claim many victims. And when a population looses the ability to communicate using simple proper grammar, they tend to breed excessively and have a higher rate of welfare support. Youre welcome...... #themoreyouknow
Just curious on what exactly your entire setup is cause it sounds phenomenal, Intake system? Obviously 42DD exhaust the street option or the race? And what kind of steel did you order yours as? Thanks man
+Jonhy Espinosa Hey! Yes I would. To be honest, I'm not sure if there is a quality difference between different brands of spacers but mine looked and felt very sturdy holding them. 42DD has always been considered quality as far as I'm concerned. Take that for what it's worth. Lol.
So clean MK4!! Good stance and sounds. About your MK4, Eibach front sway and axle rubbing, or not?? I think about putting Eibach frontsway on my MK4, thanks.
hello, was just wondering with your wheel setup do your tires ever hit the fender lining? i just put on some 225/40 with a wheel offset of 35. i want some small spacers but with suspension travel i dont want to eat my new tires. love the car btw sounds amazing
Thanks! Well, on big bumps the tires definitely hit the liners. Not enough to eat the "tire" but enough to eat the front liner over time. Lol. Shortly after this video I put on Continental ExtremeContact DWS which are in general a more thick tire and it rubbed even more. But again, we are taking big highway bumps.
How is the ride on the ST coilovers? I'm thinking about getting them on my 2015 GLI. It looks like you just got rid of the wheels gap, which is the setup I'm going for. Is this your DD?
Those GLI's are nice! I'm actually eyeing an MK7 R now. Weighing it between the MK7 GTI just based on the killer deals you can get on the GTI's now. They ride great! After 2 years of ownership, they still feel planted around corners. I went through a spell where I thought they were getting soft on me because I felt like I was starting to feel more body roll but NOPE! It was my tires. I bought some Continental ExtremeContact DWS's and it just transformed the car and restored my faith. You probably already know this, but if you have never invested in some good tires, man are you missing out. I'm now convinced that people shouldn't go "cheap" on tires. Quality matters. Back on topic: Yes, my goal was just to eliminate the wheel gap since this is my daily driver. Not about that static slammed DD life lol. This allowed me to have a great stance while being functional.
This might be what I go for with my mk1 AEB swap, the volume from the non res/cat 42dd turbo back just doesn't match the mental image of a Westy gti _(mild resto mod)_ with the squares intact. I like the subtlety of the overall db level, complemented by the raspy pops and burbles on lift off. It's sounds alot closer to my RSC I had on my mk6 gti, than the RSC I have on my mk6 R at the moment which is way too quiet.
i got exact setup 42 Draft Designs 3” Turboback (w/ High flow Cat) (Double Wall Tip). i was wondering did you have fitment problems withe the 3" exhaust touching, rubbing or rattling against anything? mine seems to hit the rear suspension and rattles over it from the S-shaped pipe. curious if u have or had similar problems. thanks
Daniel Madril Jr Wow! Sorry I'm just now replying. I did not run into any fitment problems when it comes to rubbing on the suspension or anywhere else for that matter. The only problem I ran into is the tip sitting too far into the bumper outlet as you can see in the video. It wasn't flush with the bumper. After contacting 42, they suggested I replace or upgrade my engine mounts. Fortunately, I already had planned to do so. Once I installed my VF Engineering mounts, the exhaust tip came out to be flush! I will say, i did have mine installed by a shop.
***** after couple months now with the exhaust seems to be better somewhat. only mount i replaced was the dogbone mount from ECS. couldnt tell if that helped or not. i had friends shop install mines. the exhaust tip sits back into bumper as well but its making contact with the bumper causing it to rattle on idle. So you said after replacing the other two engines mounts the exhaust sat much better? and shifts feel better with the mounts? let me know thanks for the reply
***** its worth it! Full turbo back. the 3" is great, just slightly oversized for the car but you will Feel the difference coming from stock. As for the mount, 42DD does recommend the dog bone mount insert or mount it self to be upgraded and i did order new dog bone mount from ECS and got it installed same time as the exhaust. but i may upgrade the other two engine mounts later in the future.
Alban Pocestta I have the street series downpipe that includes the hi-flow cat. I in-fact do have the 42DD o2 Spacer installed. Check description for full mod list.
Garrett Beck I bought them off eBay. I searched “BBS RC Center Cap” and found 4 for $80 shipped. The prices may be different now trying to source them. You’re looking for 70mm size. Good luck on your search.
Hey! Sorry for the late response. I didn't have any check engine light with the spacer but to be fair, I went stage 2 the same day I put the exhaust on. I'm pretty sure stage 2 software may delete a fault like that.
Well, the only Stage 2 tune from my knowledge that requires you to have an upgraded downpipe is Unitronic. The other big guys (APR, GIAC, & Revo) RECOMMEND you have an upgraded, intake, intercooler, exhaust, or diverter valve. So really, you only have to have a downpipe for Unitronic Stage 2. Extra mods of course maximize the effect of the software for them and others.
Damnn even when you give them 1000 $ they still try and make another 45$ lol & if I get the race one which has no cat and it's probably gonna give me a check engine light can I put an o2 sensor on that to make the light go away or you don't know? Lol
P3 OBD-II Vent Gauge. This was the version where they pre-install the gauge into an OEM vent so it costs about $489. Although, I bought mine during a Black Friday sale so I think I picked it up for about $375.
+Chase Sirera Hey Chase, sorry I'm late with a reply. I bought them off eBay. I searched "BBS RC Center Cap" and found 4 for $80 shipped. Good luck on your search.
Javier Garcia Lol what are you on about? Just look up “2005 GLI” and see what comes up. Maybe it was different outside of America but we definitely had mk4s in 2005, they also produced mk4 Jetta wagons in 05
