Hi
In this video I show you how I have checked the air conditioning of this car, in order to trace down the fault.
The air-conditioning was not working, even after a service.
Hope you enjoy the video.
Any questions please put them below.
Thank you for watching!
P.S.-Watch it right till the end if you are interested in see what the actual fault was...

Just wanted to say a huge thank you. I have exactly the same car with the same problem. Just took a look under and the brown wire is snapped. Probably saved me hours and hours of fault diagnosis. Top video. 👌👌

Great work, thanks for taking the time to do this. I will be pointing people in this direction from some forums I use.That bracket on the front of the gearbox where you found the broken wire sometimes has two or three other connector pairs (depending on engine type) that also suffer broken wires and sometimes leads to expensive mis-diagnoses and unnecessary replacement parts. Lambda sensor(s) and alternator signals are all on this bracket, and on other cars of the same platform (Skoda Fabia etc). If you have charging problems and your battery light fails to come on when you switch the ignition on, chances are you'll find a broken blue wire in this same area. [Comment from Janice's partner]

Very nice diagnostics. A lot of people would never have found this issue and glad you took the time to share your skills with us. That's the first time I heard of a compressor using a valve to vary the load on a compressor rather than using a clutch. Learn something new all the time. One question that I have is where was your ground lead connected for your scope. It would appear that if you were hooked to a good ground, then you would see the PWM from the HVAC module. And thanks for showing us the broken ground wire at the end. Take care...

Thanks for sharing, My polo 6r 2010 have the same issue, testing the electronic continuity between the black wire going to the valve and the ground of the battery gives negative results, so there's no connection between them, do you think it may be the cause of not getting cold air? Btw, I've the same valve format as yours. Regards

hello sir, thank you for the informative videos you provide, Please i've a question regarding the the valve that control the cycles you mentionned at 18:03, is it normal that the two wires, red and black, are connected to each other? When i check the continuity between them with my multimeter i found out that they are connected. Is it normal, otherwise where it may be the issue and if possible how to fix it or what part to be replaced. Many thanks in advance
@LMAutoRepairs
@LMAutoRepairs 4 года назад
Depends how you are measuring... The valve is most likely a solenoid, so, if you are measuring with the valve connected, you will se a low resistance.... If you want to check wiring integrity, disconnect it at both ends... Thank you for watching!

@@LMAutoRepairs here are some updates: I took the valve off and tested it outside the car, gave it 12V straight from the battery and was able to hear its sound and see the internal part moving so I guess the valve is working good. Then I measured the voltage between the end of the wires going from the car to the valve, and found that it was only 4V and kept increasing to 7V, push the button " AC "has no effect on this value. 1° I am thinking of giving the valve a 12V directly from the battery, do you think it can turn on the AC system and give cold air? just to make sure that my compressor is fine. 2° Does the voltage 4V to 7V, can be the cause of not getting cold air? If so, from where i can start my investigations. 3° What are the required voltage between the valve ends during the whole cycle, AC off, AC on? Does it need to be 12V while the AC is on? Waiting for your precious advice sir! Thank you in advance

Hi, thanks for your video, i have different kind of problem on my 2006 Polo. Could you please think of what it could be. My AC ocasionaly turns ON by itself, and does not show the orange light on the AC button, and pressing the AC button shuts on/off the light, but doesnt make any difference , AC stays on, but when i turn the ventilation to 0, i can confirm that the compressor shuts off because of that short jump in the rpms after a few seconds. After a while and few restarts of the car it is back to normal, but it is frustrating sometimes when i only want the ventilation without AC and i cant turn it off unless i turn off the complete ventilation. Also on diagnostics i have #1596 faults for the flap. I was also having trouble with my power steering, i would have to start the car few times for power steering to work, now after cleaning some ground wire connection spots under the battery it seems to work, even though diagnostics reads 01309 - Power Steering Control Module (J500) 49-00 - No Communications.

Anita Jones Fair enough... but I have my hands full at the moment... Do you have anyone that can have a look, if is the same as in the video, or similar, the wires can be easily measured for continuity...
@TheKjuno
@TheKjuno 7 лет назад
Hi Anita, first check the fuses in the cabin, you can use multimeter to see is there impedance on the fuse (if yes, fuse is bad) - engine off, contact off. Check impedance on compressor (but I assume that if it is new, that it is ok, and that the gas pressure is aslo ok). Start the car, turn AC on, and check voltage on the line coming to the compressor valve, red is hot, black is ground. If there is voltage (12V), than all the relays and pressure switchs are ok, and your ground is bad.Easy way to spot this is: when connect your multimeter for voltage on both leads on the comming line, and there is no reading, but when measuring red wire on the line, and black anywhere on the metal part of the engine, and there is 12 V reading, your ground in the line is bad . Car off, and as Imsvvavr did, connect hot wire from the valve (red one) to the red wire in the wire coming to the compressor, and ground(black) to the any metal part of the engine ( I did ti on the round shape mount near the oil cap, just be careful not to touch inner part of the alternator) or on the - pole on the battery. If the aircon starts, there is your problem. The brown connector under the gearbox is broken,and you loose conntact. In my case, both hot and ground wires had bad contact.
@anitajones1702

Thank you so much for this information. I have booked my car into a garage to check the wiring as I don't really understand and haven't got a multimeter. Hopefully they will find the problem and resolve.
