I have been riding for years as well. I also own a Goldwing. That thing is a beast. I am 5’8 with 30 inch leg. This 27 inch seat height is perfect.for me. I love riding back roads or a around the town bike. Again this bike is perfect. I don’t think it’s a beginners bike at all. I am selling the Goldwing because it’s everything I don’t want in a bike.

I wanted (still want) an Indian Scout.... but as my first bike.....I thought i should buy used and less cc's first........ I recently (Last week) bought a 2000 Vstar 650 and I'm i ever glad I did, great beginner bike, lots to learn, lots of chrome, looks big, feels nice and sounds like a Harley ( Vance & Hines Pipes) and yet very controllable. Love your videos!!

I've been enjoying your videos. I'm 67 and sold my 1982 CB900SF a couple of years ago and just have to get back on a bike again and off the sofa. After researching many many bikes I realized the little V-Star would be just fine for me now. Although the tunnel vision I got when I cracked the throttle on my SF will be missed. Changing my shorts won't be though. PS: About the semi. It's like being married, it's always our fault, even though it really isn't, because we're the ones that bounce down the highway. 3 bike related surgeries later....

I learned to ride on one of those and loved the heck out of it. It had an extremely comfy seat and you sit low so its easy to hold up and was very forgiving. If you did something stupid it was like the bike said "Alright stupid Ill save you again..." lol. It was also great on creature comforts- self canceling turn signals, that seat, awesome headlight best I ever had on a bike, loud horn, and everything was just where you expected it to be and also very reliable. I finally out grew it just became boring and I had a shot at a vmax 1200 which was my dream bike (was talked out of one for my first bike by my cousin, thank God lol probably wouldn't be here if he hadn't ) so I took it lol but I do sometimes miss that vtwin rumble these sound and look much bigger than they actually are.

@sstroh08
@sstroh08 6 лет назад
Ian Callahan Sorry I just saw this. I agree with Sean they are great on the highway. It got great fuel mileage too. My only complaints- I always felt like it needed an overdrive gear. It has plenty of power. It took a little while (for a bike) but I had got it up at and maybe a touch above 100 mph before. Maybe 110 is probably about all it has though. But it always felt like it was revving kind of high when just cruising. Although, even though it sounds big it is a smaller engine, so that makes sense really. Also the clutch was kind of funny in the way it engages in my opinion. No matter how you adjusted it, it always caught at the last second it seemed like. But I never had an issue out of it, or really anything else at all on it for that matter. Probably the only vehicle I've ever owned I could say that about haha. I really liked it, but a chance at my somewhat hard to find dream bike popped up and I had to trade her to get it. I wish I still had it sometimes. Would totally recommend it.

Logan Knoshal I would say it would probably lose. These are great all around basic cruisers, but there's no doubt for a bike they're not very quick. On my old one I raced my cousin once with him on a Honda Shadow 750 and he beat me. He didn't run away with it or anything, but there was no denying which was faster.

We've just bought one of these (in the UK) - it had been left standing outside for three years, and so we got it for a bargain price. It's been stripped and had some customisation and is almost ready to go. I'm surprised to hear so many of the reviewers call it a starter bike. Here we have to start on a 125 cc and then pass a bike test. Do you all mean compared to a bigger engine size?

Just stumbled upon your videos and have to say I like your reviews. I'm looking at getting my first cruiser bike and likely going to pickup a Shadow 750 Aero (2006 with only 4400 miles for $2100 from a friend) and it's going to be just a daily rider. I've been riding sport bikes; FZ-07 was my first bike and now I ride a K9 GSX-R 750 so I don't need speed just something comfortable to put around on. How does the Yamaha 650 compare to a Shadow 750 as far as power/acceleration? If they are close then yes the Yamaha will also be close with an 883, because when I test rode the Shadow I raced my buddy on his 883 Sportster and it was dead even untill about 60 MPH and he pulled about 1-2 bike lengths ahead of me from 60-85 MPH where we had to let off. It was very close though and the 883 did come out ahead but not by much.

@LuvMyRoadKingClassic
@LuvMyRoadKingClassic 7 лет назад
Those pipes are not factory on that bike. I have the same bike I bought new in 2005. Within a year I put Vance & Hines on mine. I saved the old ones and had to get a "Jet Kit" for the carb. I also put in a K & N high flow air filter. The new pipes give it a little more snap and it sounds great once you start up from a stop and romp on it. But once you get going down the road at highway speeds, the sound is not all that loud. I have Harley's pass me and their bike drowns mine out. When the engine is cold, I can get a nice back-fire out of it when I down shift. Not sure if the back-fire is hurting anything, but the Bang! Bang! sounds cool.

To the guy who called this a beginner’s bike. I bet you are a young man. I love to ride back roads with curves. I am 67 and have been riding 45 yrs. I have a 30 inch leg length as well. But I can get on a highway and do 75 mph. With now problem. You will be my age some day and if you can still ride at all at my age you will understand. You will ride or your wife will make you quit. No it a great bike to keep enjoying the ride. Even when I had my Goldwing I had no need to go 125 or more. I guess you still do.

I’m thinking either this, a Harley-Davidson Street 500/750 or an Indian Scout 60 for my first motorcycle. I don’t really want something with a big, powerful motor on it mainly since I got my Motorcycle license less than a month ago. My ride coach also recommended that something with at least 500cc for anyone over 200 pounds. I’ve sat on each one at dealerships and they all felt pretty like they were good fits for me.

In relation to motorcycles if you do not speak on HP, torque, top end, handling, pertinent shit, you are not giving a good review. Your videos are not all bad. They are just often lacking pertinent information. If you can't deal with constructive criticism - you are not a man. im a 16 yr old girl, i started out with a red cat, when i turned 15 i got a 800 suzuki boulvard and ive always been able to handle it well, and in a few weeks were downgrading me to this bike, i was nervous to downgrade, ive never rode a 650 or 750, and i didnt want a small bike, so hearing you say it doesnt look small makes me feel better, my cousins in a gang and is wanting me to join a all womens club their associated with, and i wasnt willing to show up with a small bike, theres expectations on me, and watching this video helped my nerves.

on top of all of that my dads a well known rider, clubs have asked for him for years but he always turns them down, he's the best, i need a bike that can keep up with him, and when he said 650 i was worried it wouldnt, but it sounds like i wont have any trouble with that.

lorence b what do you mean? I had a 800 Suzuki boulevard and now I have a 650 V star. Also we took it out on a ride a couple weeks ago. It can keep up but when it hits 65mph it sounds like your going 100 65 is definitely pushing this bike. If you downgrade don't take this 650 go higher. You'll be disappointed. I like to ride fast.

Sinking Sanity nah dog I’m saying you’re full of shit with your biker gang story no one is going to want a kid in a biker gang unless the wiggles and blues clues made a biker gang

lorence b it's true. They won't take me in at this age but they want to ride with me and hang have me hang out with them while I'm younger they want to go ahead and meet me. Then they want to take me in when I'm older. But I turned down the offer. I believe their group was lady serpents. I don't remember what he said some all women's group named after a snake. But I said no because when I'm 19 I'm going to join BACA (bikers against child abuse)

Why is it that bikes like these are kinda hard to find? They should be everywhere, but they rarely seem to go up for sale.

Looks/sounds like aftermkt pipes, like Vance&Hines or whatever, right? Has a nice rumble to it. I would just have a hard time forking over $500 for slip ons- a ripoff to me.

I had a V-Star 650 Custom for 20 years. Put over 50K miles on it. It isn't the rider. It's that shifter. It is SO EASY to accidentally toss it in neutral instead of 2nd.

hey there, I just bought a 650 2006 vstar. my first bike also 12000 miles. I have an appointment to learn how to ride it, but I just noticed that my bike it's leaking oil I'm so sad and disappointed. it leaks by the stand, just so sad, I haven't even touched it and I have to take it to the shop. you got nice videos by the way.

+Jorge Melena sorry to hear that about your bike, but don't fret I'm sure it's something minor. Take it to your trusty local shop to get it checked out

what is the difference from a 1996 model and a 2005 model ? any upgrades?
@gregpettit1439
@gregpettit1439 2 года назад
Very few differences. One thing is that some people thought the original pipes were too quiet. Around 05 the mufflers were changed slightly, for a deeper tone. Also fuel warmers in the carbs. A check eng. light. Not much else anyone could notice.
