This is why RU-vid is so valuable. It took me no more than 20 minutes to do this job that would have cost a lot of money at the dealer. Thank you so much for posting this.
I agree! A few years back the wife locked the keys in, and the locksmith partially pealed off the chrome on the inside of the door handle when he was unlocking the door... was going to get it replaced at the dealer, but they quoted $500+. So I covered it up with Chrome tape, and been driving my ghetto-mobile around until this weekend where the latch failed completely. Ive ordered the part for $12 on Amazon and will be dropping it in tomorrow. Thanks again for the video.
38 seconds into this video and I can open my door from the inside without having to roll down the window first. This is a neat little trick to use while I await my new door handle's arrival in the mail. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for this video! It saved me $600 dollars from the ford dealership and took me about 25 mins between watching the video and doing it as you did!!
Thank you not just for walking through the repair, which is great help and a great public service, but more importantly, THANK YOU for demonstrating the workaround to open the door using the lock latch. Until the part arrived, that saved me from having to constantly open the car by rolling down the window and reaching out to the outside, which was quite annoying in the tight garage.
Thanks to your informative video, I gained confidence as a 60 year old grandma to make this repair myself saving lots of expense! So thankful you posted this as it was fairly easy to do with a few simple tools!
Lifesaver!! As a single parent I don't have a lot of money and when my handle broke I panicked about the cost of repair. Thanks to this video I replaced it myself with this same part from Amazon. Thank you for this content! 🙌🏾
Thanks so much! I just finished this repair for a whopping $10 part and 20 minutes of my time. Also thanks for the tip about opening the door with the lock mechanism... It took a few days for the part to arrive, so being able to open the door easily in the meantime was great.
I had this same problem. Thanks to this video, I was able to do it for the price of the part ordered from Amazon, from FoMoCo. Took me way more than 20 minutes but my time is cheap. Thank you for this.
great video! that trick to use the lock button to open the door almost literally saved my life! too big to crawl through and can't roll down the dang window! sitting in the car and watched your video first to see if I can fix it and BAM! there's that little hint you put in there!
Excellent Video. Thank you so much. My daughter has a Fusion and lives out of town. I was able to install the handle during one of her short visits. Took me less than an hour. Cheers!
I have to admit. This is the best and most detailed video I've seen on RU-vid. Thank you. This is my second comment in 5 years, so that should tell you how much I appreciate this. Keep them coming.
Watched your video yesterday Oct. 21st. Ordered from Amazon and got it today Oct. 22nd at 2pm. Part is in and yea I can open the door now. Thank you so much!
My 2010 Ford Fusion's driver door handle broke again for the 2nd time in 2 years. The first time, I had a dealership fix it because I was traveling. This time, I watched this video, ordered the parts from Amazon and installed it in 15 minutes. Your information about putting everything together was very helpful!! And I saved $150.
Janet Morgan awesome!!! We love when our videos helps someone perform a task like this themselves, your scenario is why we make the videos, thanks for watching and commenting!!
Thank you! Mine just failed. I went shopping, came back to the car, and the key wasn't unlocking the door. I panicked. Luckily it did open one last time while I reefed on it. This is a quick and easy fix. Got a good price on Amazon ($15 CAD with Prime) and will have it tomorrow. Thanks for this awesome video!
Great video. Many thanks. I too put my knee on one of the screws. Food for thought, if you use a cordless driver, turn the torque down to about 2 or you can run the screw through the bezel for the handle. All good now. I broke mine by using the handle to pull the door shut.
Thanks so much! When my car door handle stopped working this week, I was able to order a part and fix it myself with minimal cost and time because of this amazing video. Great work, very specific, and thanks again!
You made it look simple. When you said it took about 10 minutes, I thought you were exaggerating. With your help and the correct tools, it did take about 10 minutes. Thank you for taking the time to make the video!!
I just started college three hours away from home, and my driver's side door stopped opening from the inside on my second day of class. You saved me having to rely on packaged noodles for a month!
Thank you for the information and the great video. Your tip about holding the handle out a little and then using the lock as the mechanism for opening the door really helped me out! I plan to replace the door handle, but this makes life easier in the meantime.
I’ll echo what others have said. Kudos for posting this video. Saved a boat load of cash and was done in less than 30 mins. One beer job at best. What a stupid design with the plastic that breaks. Glad I have the knowledge now to perform this repair if it creeps up again!
Thanks so much. I spent more time finding the right tools than putting in the new handle. The part you had broken was the same as mine. Now I have to fix the other 3 doors. Thanks ford for putting in junk.
Thank you for the video. I have the exact same problem with my 2012 and the disassembly instructions saved me a lot of time. Also, thanks for the trick with opening the door with the lock, solved my headache in the interim.
Thanks so much! I been rolling down the window to get out but that little trick of pulling the lock and handle at the same time, saves me $200 the dealership wanted to charge me to fix it.
Thank you for this video. This is the second time I've had this handle break. First time cost me $120 for parts and labor. This time, the part was $20 and 30 minutes of my labor. You just saved me about $100 in repair costs because I'm not a handy guy and couldn't have done it without a video showing me how.
I want to thank you for putting up this tutorial on how to replace the the door handle. It helped me and saved me money because I was able to replace it myself. Great video keep it up.
Great video! Thorough explanation! Found other videos for it, but yours was hands down better. Ordered the part on Amazon, it was received today and installed today. When I called the local ford dealership earlier this week I got quoted $275 to fix. Thank you for the video and saving me some dough!
Great instructions and spot on. I just did this to my car with no problems at all following this guide. I even knelt on a crack on the floor in my garage and it hurt just like kneeling on a screw...LOL. Great job!!
Awesome! I have my part on order and will be replacing this on Tues! My local mechanic said $200 for the part and between 80-140 for labor! Bought on Amazon for $53!
Thanks! Just did mine in under 10 minutes cause of your video. I used to do the trick with the lock and handle for awhile. Then my lock broke off so the only way out was reaching for the handle outside. Ordered the door handle on Amazon for only 15 bucks and was here the next day. Easy fix to months of broken door handle.
I can totally do this lol. Saving so much money XD. I replaced my tires, restored my headlights, and not I'm gonna replace my door handle lol. Fun weekend projects
Order the replacement door handles in metal form not plastic again! Metal ones cost more but are much much more reliable in the long run with little chance of breaking again!
Thank you, thank you, and thank you again! For the make-shift opening tip, for the clear instructions, and the reasonably-priced part linked on Amazon.
Fyi amazon has metal replacements instead of plastic. They are 25 each instead of 10 to 20 for the plastic ones. Just ordered the metal one. It should last alot longer.
Thanks so much for this video it helped a lot. Told exactly where to go and how to remove the defective door handle. Got the replacement in two business days from autopartsdirect! Fantastic!
The little screw cover in the handle niche is hinged at the bottom, at least in a 2006 Milan, so pry from the top and don't pull it all of the way out.
Have purchased numerous fords this problem once under warranty was fixed. It has happened again I'm convinced the problem is meant to happen for a paid repair. A door repair? Not able to open from the inside? Is that really what you want to do to your customers? After 8 plus new buys I guess they don't care
Door handle repair is very common. You wouldn't believe how many door handles we sell, its ridiculous. Every time I see our inventory of door handles come and go I think that a door handle must be broken every second of every day.
Mine let go today. I broke the power window regulator a while back. My window is held up with tape now. Got to fix both now. At least the handle is cheap and easy. Got to find a video on the regulator. The motor is still OK. I can hear it when I hit the switch.
Awesome video Thank you. I just had this happen on my 2012 Fusion. The exact issue right down to the breaking area “notably made in plastic” Same cable being used for the lock and door pull. Perhaps a common problem because the mechanism part doing the actual work is plastic. You can’t create a part without knowing this will happen. Lol. Like Great video at any rate and appreciated!
Nice! Exactly what I needed to know, but it seems you had to get a new cover for the handle screw as I have learned the is no way the grey it off without scaring it or damaging it.
I think every time I've removed a door panel I've broken at least 1 slot that the clips slide into. Either I just don't have the touch, or more likely my cars are too old or too new, new enough to have a lot of plastic and old enough for it to be getting brittle.
10mm socket, 7mm socket , t20 torx and a very small screwdriver or pick to remove the trim button inside the door handle trim. If a door panel clip comes out of the door panel and stays in the door, you need to pop it out, a pair of wire cutters and a gentle hand will work.
