You can pay $40 for the crank pulley holder tool and another $10-15 for the seal and do this yourself, or pay a shop a few hundred bucks to do this. It's not really that hard if you have a little mechanic knowledge and some simple tools.
For those who are doing this. You can get the tool or get a puller pull crank pulley , change front seal then use a impact gun. Do not use lock tite. This motor has a lip on crank shaft which will not allow you to over torque. I did remove radiator because I had to replace it.
Thank you for the video, I’m thinking of doing this as my IS350 has 181k miles and I also have to add oil periodically - I’m hoping this is the direct source of the gradual oil leak. How has the car been holding up lately? Any need to top off the oil at all? Perhaps you could post a 1-week/1-month update to tell how well this fix has helped, I’d be really curious to know!
I've driven it for about a week now. In town and out of town and still no leaks. Before I did this it was leaking everyday, so I'm 100% sure this was the source of my main leak. The oil level hasn't changed since I did this, but I'll do a one month update in June and see if anything changes. Be sure to subscribe for more Lexus content.
