bro i wanted this car in high school and purchased one 2 years after graduating! hope u get ur hands on one of em bro there's just something different bout the rsx
My first new car was a 2003 RSX-S in the exclusive electric blue. That car was amazing! The K20A was a Mecca of a power plant. To me this was the ultimate fwd sports car. It was a dream to own! Every morning there was one piece of road I would wind the engine out to 8200 and it was like turbo. Just made my day every day. And cable driven throttle. These really are special cars.
I can still remember the day I picked my brand new 05 Vivid Blue Pearl Type S off the lot. First thing I got for it was an injen CAI and man the sound it would make when it was in vtec.
To anyone who owns an RSX or wants to own one, I’m Honda guy through and through, I own a 7th gen civic of the same era and they have lots of interchangeable parts! All my buddies upgraded to coil overs and a louder/ higher performance exhaust and that was truly all they needed to drive that thing for years with a smile on their faces :) #Kswapeverything!
I own a 2002 type S. sits in my garage for the time being. I keep going back and forth if I wanna sell or just keep it. such fun to drive on a back winding road.
Keep it. Clean ones are becoming more and more rare, and you’re gonna regret setting it pretty quick. I had a 2005 corolla XRS 6-speed with Lift (like vtec) with only 113k miles and i was like eh lemme sell it. I still regret selling it cuz now i cant find one anywhere
@@jedmrrp indeed they are I just got 06 type s with 68k original miles for an arm & a leg but in all honesty i was happy with it being my 1st project car.
So many things have been dumbed down in modern cars for average consumers. Car guys like the raw feeling of driving a car that takes some proficiency to drive smoothly
"Miss this era of cars. They don’t make them like this anymore" Yes, they do. You are not looking carefully. When you take your head out of you rear end you will realize that the new ones are better than this but people like you demand for turbo's and N/A cars are lesser performer, hence you can;t see the merit what is in front of you TODAY.
@@squidproquo2241 i don't think you understand the premise of their statement. they meant that new cars nowadays feel so "robotic" as today's technology has taken over the way new cars feel back in the day. they simply do not make them like this anymore because of the simple fact that technology has advanced so far.
@@bolt2271 "i don't think you understand the premise of their statement. they meant that new cars nowadays feel so "robotic" as today's technology has taken over the way new cars feel back in the day." Well, I think you are completely unaware from the motive behind the post. This hater is not going to put this remark under a European junk car. The subliminal manipulation here is that "Current Honda's are not as good as the old one's." It is not new cars, it is new Honda's that's what he is implying. So, it is time for you to wake up a little. "they simply do not make them like this anymore because of the simple fact that technology has advanced so far." It is advanced for all brands yet you will not here anyone saying this idiotic thing under an older European junk. They will continue to praise the newer model and they even praise the new technology that the Europeans put in their cars. So, wake up. You are subliminally manipulated to shy away from newer Honda's and pushed towards the newer European junks.
As a car enthusiast, this year has been fun seeing the revival and throwbacks of the Type-S. In 2013, I replaced my 1989 Integra (aka a 1st gen RSX) with my current stock 2006 Type-S. As you have an idea from the video, It's so much fun to drive and even though looks are subjective, it really has a look that appeals to me even today. Hope I can keep driving it for a long time no matter how old I get... :)
I'm 56 and if I went into a showroom today and could choose between this Acura brand new and anything Honda makes today, including Type R I would choose this Acura all day long. Cars have been getting worse not better
Will say I’ve driven almost all gens of si’s never a rsx type s, but I have driven a new type r, out of all of them I actually didn’t find the new type r as special, I feel like the high rpm na power is what honda is known for and it just feels better to me. The new type r felt very very numb and electronic in comparison to even my wrx.
The old Honda/Acuras were built much better. I bought a 2017 Civic Sport Hatchback and had several issues I had to keep going back to the dealership to get fixed. Ended up saying F that and traded it in for a 2023 Accord Sport. It has left me stranded 3x now. Trans went out at 6k miles. I have 8 payments left. Soon as I pay it off, Im getting rid of it. I miss my 04 Type S. Got used with 13k miles, had 212k when I traded it in and it only saw the shop once for something I couldn't do myself.
@@getterminated647 Just some new spark plugs, a head cover gasket set which includes spark plug tube seals, a vtc filter, a spool valve filter, upper coolant hose, idler pulley, air box cover (mine was broken), and pcv valve and tube. I've already taken apart the IAC valve and throttle body and cleaned them, installed new power steering pump, fuel pump, and ac compressor. Thing will be nearly as good as new this week. Hopefully nothing else comes up.
I’m on my third Dc5 and still have a 95’.Dc2. These Suzuka made Acuras were masterpieces. Easy to drive, easy to park, you can squeeze through places due to their small footprint. Easy and super low cost maintenance. Great visibility all around. Test drove the new tlx, a chore to get in and out. Big on the outside, small and tighter than the Integra/Rsx on the inside for such a wide and long car. You’re going to get a lot of door dings from other cars. Finally, picked up a 21’ boost blue CTR and it has filled a pretty good chunk of the big shoes from the Suzuka gems. Never got on s2000 train because I’m a tall and wide guy that needs his car to have decent cargo space with a hatchback to haul stuff. CTR and Integra are just brilliant.
I've got an 03 Type S and it's a super fun car to rev out and blast through corners (vtec is very addicting). It never fails to put a smile on my face. Considering how difficult it is to find a clean example of an RSX, and prices becoming ridiculously unreasonable for most older Japanese sports cars (even in poor condition), I'll be keeping this thing until it dies, which could take a while. My family has had in total 4 Hondas with the K series motor throughout my life; none had issues even with high kilometers. Just keep up with maintenance and they run forever Thanks for reviewing older cars, it's interesting to see how much cars have changed in the last 20 years :)
The K20a when not abused it will last 300k miles and than you can overhaul the K20a and keep going. It's like the Toyota SR5 pickup it can just go way beyond any American engine.
@@Freescrub it’s been great driving wise, but there’s been some electrical issues that I’ve been having. Need to get an OEM Denso alternator hopefully that will fix things.
I sold my blaze Orange RSX-S A-Spec, 8 years ago I just found one for sale came to take a look at it as these are super rare in orange, turns out it was mine. I am so mind blown.
Looking at these original Type S models just puts a smile on my face~ The CL Type S, the TL Type S, and the RSX Type S are just classics and show that we're missing this type of Type S performance from Acura.
I had a rsx type-s 2002 in Artic Blue Pearl. Bought it in 2011 and had it until 2018 until I got hit head on in it. I loved that car so much. Had bolts ons on it as well and lowered on coilovers with Type R wing, Mugen front lip with jdm black housing head lights. Motor was bullet proof with 265k miles. I’m definitely getting another one
Thank you for reviewing this car, Topher! Acura for life! I really wish TLX Type S also offered in Manual transmission, but it is what it is. Aggressive 10 speed is quite welcoming too
Such a great car.I almost bought one brand new back in the day but I decided to keep my dc2 gsr.I drive a 2012 Tl 3.5 today,my love for acura never went away.
@@goldentrucker7921 24 Seconds because it's an AUTOMATIC! No big deal, my 2018 Audi S5 Sportback fixes my need for speed. Also had a 97 Yamaha yzf that was pretty fun until I test rode my friend's R1...
Last November 2023, I bought a 2004 Acura RSX-S in Milano Red with only 37K miles, no accidents. It now has only 38K miles (I have a daily beater driver that I use for work, shopping; etc.). It's pretty much a garage queen, but I love it. It still has the stock exhaust, just like this RSX-S in the video. I enjoy a quiet drive. I knew I had to jump on it when I saw the ad. I'm never going to sell it.
I have had my 05 type s since 2006. I am the 2nd owner haven't looked back since. It's been retired as my daily and just a weekend car now but always worth the wait. Love seeing these cars in spotlight again they truly are from a different era.
@@_u0nda928 I have a employer provided truck, my personal truck and a suv to haul the family. So it sits most of the time and after a week or two of not driving it I jump in and get to have fun on the road.
i have a 2005 rsx type s, black on black. i'm its first and only owner. it's my first and only car. i was a teenager when i got it and now i'm a grown ass adult. i've only put 104k miles on it, and almost 20 yrs later it still drives like the day i got it. i love it and i'm never gonna sell it, but i'm finally about to retire it as my daily driver. probably gonna move to an EV. i'm gonna miss the visceral thrill of a manual 6-speed though, and no other car i've driven has that same tight, precise feel. back when i first got it i used to run it up to the redline on the back hills of the SF peninsula. once went 125mph in the deserts outside palm springs. these days i drive it pretty sedately, but every once in a while i still let the vtec kick in. everything still just vanishes into the rearview mirror.
I beat the everliving crap out of mine and it never failed me. It sucked water though the cold air intake, ran with low oil for months, ran hard every single day, commuted every day, etc. Absolute beast of a motor in a great chassis.
Thanks for bringing back the memories…I also had an 06 RSX Type-S with just 60k miles as well…taught my ex how to drive stick with it. She eventually took over the car, forgot to put oil in it and blew it...true story.
This was my first car! Mine was an 02 but it was so good to me. Unfortunately a VW Passat decided he wanted to blow a stop sign and that was the end of that :(
I used to have one of these. Such a great little car. Revved the bejesus out of it for ten years, never gave me a problem. Wound up selling it to a family member.
Had one for 8 years. Had so many freinds and family telling me a i need a new car. Now that Im rid of it I miss it. Very durable car with proper maintenance.
Had a silver one with a-spec package. Sold it back in 2010 at 70k miles to a young kid that saved up from working at a grocery store himself. At the time I actually got sick of it because I got sick of the no torq and always having to rev the piss out of it to have fun. But now looking back I would love to drive that car again with that beautiful gearbox that no car now even comes close to.
My 06 type-s has 179k and gets bounced off the rev limiter daily. Hard to beat for the price, reliability and fuel mileage. Definitely not a good pedal setup for heel toe shifting though.
Thank you for that joy ride! I had the exact same model an color. Complete joy of simplicity! Best véhicule I ever owned, downshifting was a miracle and top speed was very stable for a light weight.
Just got one a couple days ago. Very fun car to drive and perfect for a daily. Very roomy and simple interior. K20 is amazing. Wish i was more into them years ago.
One of the most impressive things is how much room there is in the right arm area…no ridiculously large arm rest console getting in the way of things, etc
I had a 2005 RSX Type-S in high school. Nighthawk Black. I added an Injen cold air intake and upgraded the sound system massively. It was my dream car that I worked my ass off to afford. But sadly, it was stolen when I was in college. Totally heartbroken but thankful I was able to enjoy the car that was all over my bedroom walls for a good four years or so. Graduated to a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3, drive a 2016 Focus RS today. However, if I ever have the expendable income, I definitely plan on buying another RSX-S... just to relive some of the old memories. :)
I've got a 05 base manual and love how it drives and doesn't bother me that it's a base as I've been told the trans is more stout and the type s trans is more prone to failure under real power and with my plans for my car the difference between the base and type s doesn't matter
Man, I almost bought one of these. It was $9.5k at a dealer with 99k miles. I wish I had. At the time that was a bit too much money but looking back that really wasn't too terribly bad. Everything around me has 50-60k more miles and they want close to that for the clean ones.
I used to have one these in the non-typeS but with a 5speed manual 2003. Bought it with 57k miles on it in 2014. It was clean as hell kept it all stock. I miss that car so much. Got totaled in a Tbone accident and now I have an ATS coupe but I miss that car so much. It just felt great to drive, very mechanical. Used to get way more compliments from mostly car guys vs the ATS haha. Got compliments from mechanics and drive-thru operators all the time lol
I just ran out front to make sure my car was still there. I bought it to be a cheap(er) daily to keep Mike's off my Nissan, and absolutely fell in love with it. It just works. Its fun. It's still economical, and after full Bolt ons and gears,, it's surprisingly "quick" (see..I didn't say fast..) Nice review, you are one of very few that really captured the essence of driving a well sorted DC5. 👍
I'd love to see a longer video featuring this car, but thanks for sharing what you could. This was one of the very last Honda cars that I found really appealing (even though I prefer rear-wheel-drive cars). With a high-revving, naturally-aspirated gem of an engine, no infotainment or other irritating screens, no electronic throttle control, etc., there is a lot to love here and few things that irritate me. That all of this is packaged in what I feel is a really attractive overall design is the icing on the cake. Safety regulations have brought a lot of benefits since the early 2000"s, but better looking cars isn't one of them. I realize that the previous generation Integra benefitted from a double wishbone setup and a better chassis (along with things like a LSD in the case of the Integra Type R). Yet while countless people consider the ITR to be the pinnacle when it comes to a front-wheel-drive driving experience, this RSX Type-S represents less of a track-focused car that brings its own benefits to the table. I have little doubt that I could have plenty of fun with one of these cars and they are aging rather gracefully in my opinion.
I wanted one of these so bad when I was 16 in 2006. I was fortunate to have my parents get me a car, and I tried like hell to convince them of at least the base RSX. Of course there was no chance in reality. Today I actually own the closest you could get to this new, a 2020 Civic Sport Coupe with a manual. On paper it’s very close to the base RSX, but deep down I know it’s still lacking some of that visceral feel.
I miss my 2002 RSX Type-S (now a 2013 Focus ST). As much as I like my ST, the Type-S provided a more "pure" driving experience, freer of electronic enhancements. My two grips with the Type-S though was the 1st-2nd gear notchiness (apparent in both the Si and Type-S as the time), and how the back-end handled when doing slalom/twisty type manouvers (which never felt as settled as the ST). But still it was the first car I ever bought and owned, and was the car I learned to drive stick on. You never forget your first love.
They went with a compact rear suspension to get a lower load floor in the hatch. Same with me mine always felt sketchy if it hit a mid-corner bump at full speed. Almost killed me a few times. The front struts and rear compact suspension is why the race teams gave up on this platform and went to the TSX.
