I had a 2010 HHR. It was the only thing I could get with my credit score. The only positive I can say about it is, that it help improve my score for a better vehicle.

If you look, you can usually always find an old, well-maintained Honda or Toyota that can be picked up for $1000 - $1500 and will be more reliable, and cheaper and easier to maintain, than any GM you can finance

This is actually a very good looking car. It may be a PT Cruiser ripoff, but it unlike a PT Cruiser, the HHR actually works as a design.

I agree... It's actually pretty practical too, like a 80's or 90's 4-cylinder station wagon. Everything else on the market from that time on up is more like either a hatchback or crossover/SUV type thing... I think this is one of the few true modern station wagons..

JP3 Doesn't matter. The SSR needs to be looked at through the lens of the place that it was sold, the USA and Canada. If you take the car out of its context, it is meaningless. If it were sold in Australia, where Utes are commonplace, it would be awful, but in the USA with a completely different context, it is something other than awful.

Except you can open the trunk with a dead battery. This guy obviously didn't read the manual. From the manual: 1. Remove the trim plug, located on the inside of the liftgate near the center. 2. Locate the release lever on the latch. 3. Insert a tool into the access hole 4. The liftgate will unlatch when the lever is pushed rearward. Push the liftgate to open. 5. Reinstall the trim plug. It takes about 30 seconds to do this. I know I've done it before.

We had the 2.2 5 speed manual version (see profile pic, and video) and put almost 100k on it with a trailer in tow almost constantly (it had no tow rating for the manual versions). Fold the seats and it was like having a smaller mini van (mini, mini van?). This thing could move 1000 pounds and park anywhere. Get 27mpg and bark the tires in second. The SS didn't come out until after we moved to wyoming and needed something to clear the snow. I still look for one today since we are back in houston. For a compact vehicle it did it's job well.
@nbookie
@nbookie 6 лет назад
@John Drohan we lived 4 miles down a private road with no maintenance for years. It took a lifted truck to get in. Add to that over 100 inches of snow (always in blizzard form) and this things had no chance in Wyoming or Montana. I took it to ohio for a winter and it was ok on city streets in the snow but not in the big horn mountains.

@cronoesify
@cronoesify 4 года назад
@@espneindanke9172 I got a late model HHR way back when I first started my post college career back in 2011. We got it super cheap (less than 10K) with only about 7K miles on it. Everyone made fun of it, but I found the space in the back usable enough, gas mileage fine enough, and I rarely had to service it. Then I moved to NYC, and just said....nah to owning any car. But the ugliness absolutely grew on me, and eventually I found it very appealing.
@espneindanke9172
@espneindanke9172 4 года назад
@cronoesify Mine is one of the first models and - believe it or not - I bought it, because it's very unique here in germany. Only 2000 cars were sold between 2007-2011 and most are "done" by now. So it's very rare and doesn't lose much value. I spent 8000$ with about 45k miles on it. But even the shabbieest HHR will stay over 5000$, as long it is road legal. People are turning heads, when I pass by ... unfortunatly mostly older man and less younger women^^ Worst thing, that happened to me was, that a girl on the gas station called it a PT-Cruiser (these were sold very often in germany). BTW: The water in the cabin came through the windshields seal and was fixed for less than one Dollar :)

I like the hhr, it is a has class of its own, it is different from the rest, it is unique, it has its own style, when you park in a parking lot it stands out from the rest, no guessing if it's your car, or have that embarrasing moment walking up to the wrong car , most cars look alike most with the same slope back that you can't tell the differnce from a kia, hyidai, ford, honda, and others. Yea, it's not the best car but it's not the worst, it rides nice a smooth and with the 190,000 miles on my hhr it still rides smooth and also shifts smoothly. I had a 2007 Monte SS and I HATED how everything was all electric... no manual way to open the trunk, or even to unlock the doors. Yes, it had a keyhole on the doors, but there was still a delay from when you turned the key until it unlocked. That is why when I replaced it, I wanted something as "stupid" as possible, where the computer did much less... 2015 Dodge Dart with manual transmission, simplest radio/cd player, but the damn car still doesn't have a manual way to get into the trunk! Why is it so hard for auto makers to put a key hole on the trunks and passenger door? Does it really cut the cost of the vehicle that much to leave them off?

I think auto makers are trying to move away from physical keys, for whatever reason. Our 2014 CX-5 has only a proximity key, and electronic button on the tailgate, but it does have a backup physical key inside the proximity key fob, and a lock cylinder on the driver side door.
@BenjermenB
@BenjermenB 7 лет назад
+Patrick94GSR The reason is because they don't like the fact that you could go to a key shop and get a spare key cut for $5, so now you have to go to the dealer and pay out the ass for a fancy electric wireless plastic "key" thing

UnleashNinjaGuru yeah it sucks, because our CX-5 only came with one key when we bought it used from a dealership back in August. New key is over $200! What I need to do is get a locksmith to copy the backup key so we at least have that. We've already had the proximity key locked inside the car once to the tune of $60 for a locksmith to open the door in less than 30 seconds.

The HHR actually is a better car than just the negative point raised in this video. They do require maintenance regarding the front suspension control arms more often than one would like. People who actually DO own them swear by them and some have also had the PT Loser so THEY would know more than anyone! They get great gas mileage. 30 hwy 25 city. To BACK UP my statement here ... I have an 06 HHR built in Nov. 05 purchased NEW March 06 LS (base) model. It did in fact have the key stuck in ignition, which happens when the battery is DEAD. All recall items have been repaired by various dealerships in my area without a big hassle. As of today this car has 296860 miles on it. I've put every one of those miles on it other than the first 48 which it had before I test drove it... I drove it from LA to just south of Chicago a few years ago and back. It had over 225K on it when I started the trip of over 5000 miles (round trip) Bash it all you want that's OK, just like politics and religion, but those of us who actually KNOW these cars happily drive them with very VERY low cost maintenance!

Interesting analysis. If I may chime in....The PT Cruiser was designed by Bryan Nesbitt who was hired away by GM and asked to design a competing vehicle. Hoping to capture the momentum of the retro craze while getting a foothold in the emerging econo-"box" (Cube, Element, xb, etc) market, Nesbitt hoped lightning would strike twice. I suppose it's debatable whether or not it was a success. GM, in their typical fashion, may have tarnished their own sales figures by not including this as a Cobalt-variant in sales the same way Toyota included the Matrix as a Corolla-variant. My wife and I have owned 2 HHRs, the first being a 2006. We bought our 2011 after the first met an untimely end when an Altima pulled out in front of my wife in 2015. She likes the cars much more than I do, but I don't object to them. The car doesn't evoke an emotional response, but they have been reliable transportation to us.

I own a 2007 Chevy hhr with over 300k miles, it treats me very well despite its massive amount of flaws but I’ve discovered that I cannot allow anyone else to drive it besides me because every time someone drives it it ends up stuck in a parking lot somewhere with a dead battery because the key wouldn’t come out of the ignition, which in turn leaves me digging whatever is in the back of the car out through the backdoor and left on the ground so I can rip out the two plastic covers that cover the battery. Now there is a positive hookup and negative in the engine bay that I believe was put there when they installed the fake shiny silver plastic trim because it looks pretty but honestly it does nothing but cause me pain

Now I am aware a lot of people didn't like these cars but I LOVED mine! There was only regular maintenance for mine. I even bought mine used 07 LT and it was great. I actually couldn't of asked for a better first car. So then a while ago I bought a PT...I liked the PT a lot, but don't get me wrong I didn't love it like I loved my HHR. Nothing could ever be loved like the HHR by me. I wish they would come out with something similar.

You haven't driven enough Chevy's if you think this is the best. I like these vehicles, don't get me wrong, but there are better GM products being made that a little more thought was put into. Like the Trailblazer with it's fantastic engine choices (even the base 4.2L was way more powerful than it's rivals base engine) and the full size trucks are normally a solid choice for a truck with the best engine options in it's segment (based on durability, cost and how much power they can make per dollar).

People comparing the HHR to Camaros and Trailblazers are not taking into account purpose. He refers to comparable use vehicles. My HHR has gotten 37mpg, is a panel, is great for advertising and holding my tools. I love my mother in law's Envoy (GMC trailblazer) very nice to drive, but it gets as bad of mpg as my suburban with much less space and power. I love my Camaro, but it also serves a totally different purpose. My HHR is the best vehicle I could find for it's purpose.

in 2008, I begrudgingly bought my wife a 2007 HHR 2LT. it was time to replace her Honda Element, and it was what she wanted, so you know what they say about keeping Mommy happy. we searched around and found a slightly used low mileage 2007 model ( I'm familiar enough with GM cars to know to stay away from first year models). We still have it, and I must say, it has been incredibly reliable. we've owned it for nine years now, and it has been remarkably problem-free. I find this incredibly remarkable because my wife is very hard on cars. there are some rather nasty speed bumps where my wife works, and she drives over them several times a day as if they are not there. Seriously, I think she actually speeds up a bit before she gets to them rather than slow down. those speed bumps have wreaked havoc on all of her previous vehicles, but this little HHR has been tough little Runabout. The only issue we have had with her HHR is a front stabilizer bar that has come loose a couple times. I attributed this to my wife's habit of trying to jump the aforementioned speed bumps. I will agree that the heated seats get way too hot, and I'm not looking forward to the day when the battery goes dead, which hopefully never happens. aside from a few aesthetic problems I have with the car, I've actually grown to love the little HHR. I'm still not a big fan of a styling but it has grown on me a bit. I've also found it to be a very versatile little car. with both rear seats and the front passenger seat folded down, it creates a rather large, level The floor. I'm just glad she didn't decide she wanted a PT Cruiser. I would have had to have said no on that one. my cousin had a PT Cruiser, and I rode in it and drove it a couple of times. the HHR is better in every way than the PT Cruiser.
