thank you so much, I bought a $400 cobalt and it's key security worked fine but the starter would not go, bridging this relay meant I could start the car and I put a light switch in to hotwire it on but only when the key is in, you just made the $400 car journey even more fun
You have been very helpful to me. I have another question now. I changed the fuel pump relay. It's doing good! Now I'm having an intermittent start and stall at crank up. Any advice? Also, I noticed since my car came back from the shop, my underhood fuse box wiggles. Is there supposed to be a nut securing it to the coolant reservoir? If so, it's not there. I'll replace if needed
Hey what’s up Up got a 2005 Chevy cobalt and it was doing a whining noise from the starter I bought a new starter and is doing the same thing like it’s not engaging the flywheel but I tested the starter outside the car and it’s spinning in shot out like it was supposed to
There's a threaded stud on the front of the motor that gets corroded, there are three wires that have to do with starting it, common problem on Cobalt's, I noticed you didn't mention it, I've seen it happen several times, those wires get corroded and lose contact.
What could be the issue if the car is idling for a bit then it shuts off by its self but it’s start fine and everything but it shuts off on its own once in a while?
i have a 2010 cobalt that was driving fine no check engine light or anything. drove it got out went to get back into it to leave and no start no crank. turn the key all i get is one click from the passenger fuse box in the center console. i dont hear the fuel pump or anything. the headlights work along with the radio and horn. i need some help ive checked all grounds and cleaned them and installed new connectors. i can jump the starter relay and the car will turn over but not start.
Very helpful thanks, Any insight into way my car would start sometime and no other, no crank. I will always start eventually, but sometime I have to wait around a while. There doesn't seem to be a pattern, sometimes it starts no issue, you can even start it back to back, other times you can turn in off and try to restart and nothing. I'll go try and do some testing with the information you provided here hopefully I can get it narrowed down.
My purple (small) wire to my starter isn't getting power from the fuse box which as you know, is connected to the crank relay. This results in a no crank/no start since I purchased the vehicle. Any thoughts on where to look next?
I'm having trouble with my 2005 chevy cobalt 2.2 and its a manual so what is happening is when I insert the key it starts to ding telling me that the key is in ignition then I turn it over to the Acc and the headlights and dashboard lights come on like normal but the radio or dome light wont come on and then when I try to crank the car over it everything cuts out and all I see is the anti theft padlock lite up on my dashboard ive replaced the starter relay but its still doing the same thing so I took the starter relay out and used a paper clip to connect them to points u said too n yes it did try to start and it also jumped at me cause I forgot to take it outta gear I brought a new battery yesterday and its still doing the same thing and a couple months ago my radio in my car started to kinda cut out/got real low when i would turn and then the radio would return to the correct volume n i would sometime hear like a wire poppin coming from the steering wheel column so im sure that theirs a short somewhere n when the first day that my car wouldnt start and doing this i took my battery out had it tested n my battery was from like 11/2017 so they thought it could be a bad battery cause they said it was only at 26% percent so i had them charge it for me for like 5 an half hours picked it up and they said thats its charged up and putting out the 12.6v and I put the battery back in still the same thing and then yesterday i went to try n start it and I had no power at all so I had to jump it just to get enough power so i could pop my trunk to get to the battery so thats why i just went a head n got a new battery ive tried to reset the anti theft but turning the key over and leaving it on for 15-20 minutes and repeating that 3 or 4 times and still the same I bought a voltage tester yesterday to see if the computer is getting power but tbh I dont know how to use tester or what settings to use so if you could possibly help me out I would appreciate it
I changed my crank fuse and now my 06 cobalt SS , won't start. Should I check relay. Fyi, car was starting with damaged fuse. However I haven't checked the inside fuse panel.
I have a 2005 Chevy colbalt and the run/crank relay is getting hot and the tcm to?? I check the holes where the run crank are and it only lights up on the two holes on the left side on the right there is no light up with the test light? am i suppose to have light up on the right side ? To? A little help would be appreciated.ty
my car stalls out at a stop sign so then i put in park and restart the engine and it usually doesn't do it again that day. i heat the car up before driving and i have a heater block for winter. took it to mechanic and of course car woks perfect. they don't want to keep changing things without knowing what might be happening
Why would my 06 cobalt not start after working all day then i come back the next day and it starts with no problem. I drove it home 30mins it sat for about 3 hours then wouldnt start again. It sat over night and started this morning no problem
@@adamgonzalez4393 Yes I had a bad fuel relay fuse, and I swapped it with another until I could get to the auto parts store. If your anti theft is stopping you, I put my key in the driver's side door and unlocked and locked it 3 times. I don't know if it helped, but I saw it in another video.
What would you do if your Cobalt stays running for a minute or two after you have taken the key out is that a different fuse or can it be one of these fuses as well?
Great video, I jumped the pins you mentioned and the car starts, measured the voltage across the other pins I’m getting about 11volts I’m assuming the computer is ok, I swapped the relay, and tried your other recommendations but the car still will not turn over. Any Ideas?
11 volts seems a bit low.. is your Cobalt an automatic? Perhaps there is a weak connection in the neutral safety switch allowing some voltage thru it but not enough to trigger the relay. The computer provides a ground and a weak ground from the computer could be an issue as well.
Thanks I will try that, by the way it is automatic. I was seriously thinking it was the ignition switch, I didn’t mention that the problem is the infamous intermittent situation sometimes it starts sometimes not, which left my daughter stranded a couple of times.
Hi. I have a 2008 Chevy Cobalt that seems to lose power often whenever i remove the key from the ignition. I have no idea what it could be. Any ideas? I went to have it smogged and they said there wasnt enough data or whatever on the ECU or something like that and that i need to drive it at least 100 miles. That’s pretty hard to do when the darn thing is constantly resetting itself when the key is turned off and pulled out. PLEASE HELP! Ty
My I had someone check my fuses, which is where I messed up , and since they messed with it I'm getting a check charging systems indicator. And I'm getting the battery light , and my windows are lagging alot? Does anyone have a suggestion?
When i try starting mine the PWR/TRN relay makes a fast clicking sound. I swapped out the relay with another and it still does the same thing. When i turn on the key nothing happens.
Interesting, my 2009 cobalt was running well. Two days ago I got in, fuel pump came on, lights on the dash, and lights in the car came on... including check engine light came on, but it would not crank. I heard nothing other than the fuel pump. I will check those relays. Let me know if you have a better idea.

I have a 2005 chevy cobalt 2.2 its a manual and then I insert the key it dings letting me know the keys are in the ignition n then when I click it over the headlights n dashboard lights come on like normal but then I try to crank it over everything cuts out I only see the anti-theft padlock light and then I release the key and then the other dashboard light come back on with the headlights the radio wont work or the dome light I replaced the the starter relay fuse n still nothin so I took the relay back out and used a paper clip to connect two of the pins and it wanted to start and kinda jumped at me cause I forgot I had it in gear I couldnt test the voltage of the computer to see if its getting the 12volts or not cause I didnt have a voltage tester until yesterday I bought one but tbh I dont even know what setting or anything to use to find out so if you or anything could help me out with that I would appreciate it and I bought a new battery yesterday also and still the same im gonna replace my crank/run relay tomorrow and also make sure that my connections on the starter are good cause something is working from the cranking the key over to the starter relay or whatever cause its not clicking or anything and I replaced the starter about 2 years ago I just need some help or solutions or anything I thought about even trying to replace the ignition switch and/or connection wires. I seen in one you tube video about resetting the anti-theft off the ignition switch finding the ground wire, fused 5 plus wire, and they ignition wire, and I believe the in and out communication wire and he had to fix getting power to it or something by using a pointed insert to poke through the fused 5 plus wire and then lead that wire over to the diagnosis data plug and just clipped it into there and he turned the key over and it went off and was able to start it but when I attempted to do what he did im lost mainly cause I dont wanna mess up anything and I just bought this voltage tester n tryin to learn how to use it or what settings to use so if anyone knows what I'm talkin bout and can help me please help me
@@ForGabeAndSammy Turn auto-unlock/lock in the DIC off. Press Info + Enter at the same time to get into that menu. Then unplug the door lock switches. Have to go full manual. All that seems more work than forking over $100 for a FOB.
